Season 3 seems to be starting off with a bang. Though the second season
did not end on a cliffhanger, there were still many story lines and
paths opened up for the third season of Supernatural. Dean has only one
year left to live, Sam might not have come back 100%, a new hunter
seems to be following them, and hundreds of demons have escaped from
the devil's gate that was opened last season, and they're already
starting to wreak havoc. This situation seems like one not even the
Winchester Brothers are up to. Despite not being as strong as last
seasons premiere, the stellar In My Time of Dying, The Magnificent
Seven is an excellent season opener and sets the stage for things to
come.
The plot begins one week after the events in the season 2 finale. Sam
and Dean are on the road as usual. Sam is extremely absorbed in finding
a way to get Dean out of his deal before his time is up. Dean, on the
other hand, dosn't seem to care all that much, He just wants to do what
he can in his final year, eating cheeseburgers, having threesomes, and
proposing suicidal ideas. Bobby calls them up on a sighting, where they
find the corpses of a family who simply let themselves starve to death.
There, they meet up with a hunter couple, Isaac and Tamara. They're not
too keen on working together - it would appear the hunter community
seems to think Dean and Sam are somewhat responsible for the opening of
the Devil's Gate. Isaac and Tamara try to follow up a lead, only to
find themselves caught in a bar full of demons. Isaac is forced to kill
himself, but Sam, Dean, and Bobby come to Tamara's rescue. They capture
a demon, and find out they're dealing with the Seven Deadly Sins. The
other demons attack in full force, but they're defeated with the help
of a mysterious new hunter who quickly disappears. Afterwards, Sam,
angry at Dean's cavalier attitude towardes his impending eternal
torment, confronts him, and Dean tells him the other part of the deal -
if they try to find a way out of it, Sam would be killed.
There are some really excellent parts to this episode. Doing a spin on
the Seven Deadly Sins being demons was an original idea, and worked out
quite well. There are also some dark moments in this episode, which
some of the previous season seemed to be lacking. Watching a woman
smash another's head into a car to death was quite disturbing, but the
worst part was forcing Tamara to watch her husband drink cleaner fluid
to death. Bobby driving the car through the door to the rescue was a
moment where you couldn't help but grin like an idiot. I felt bad for
Tamara, and was glad she got to live. Perhaps she'll come back in the
future. And more of Bobby is always a good thing. Seeing him in a suit
was just...weird. And I quite liked his line to the Gluttony demon
before exorcising it. The introduction of Ruby didn't feel as forced as
I feared it would, and was glad to see her come to the outnumbered
Sam's rescue. I'll reserve judgment on her until she gets more screen
time. The acting was great, as usual, though not as stand out as some
episodes.
There are few negative parts to the ep. Though I loved the Seven Deadly
Sins being demons, I kinda wish they hadn't been killed off so early.
They would have made great villains over the course of the season, now
that the YED is dead. I also wish there had been more of an emotional
moment between the brothers, other then the ending. And though I think
Dean was hilarious, I wish he'd been darker about his coming death than
cavalier, it makes for more interesting drama. Dark Dean, like in the
first half of season 2, is the best Dean IMO. Also, the fight at the
house was decent, but I wish they wouldn't slow things down and speed
things up, it looks kinda cheesy. I prefer the usual, gritty, up-close
style of action seaosn one had.
Best part of the episode: Dean's Seven reference. Jensen's comic timing
is great. Everyone just stares at him.

Awesome kick start to the new season. Fantastic idea in my opinion,
personifying (or demonifying if you prefer :D ) the seven deadly sins.
Fantastic acting, great storyline and dean humour, everything we need
for a fab ep of supernatural. Bobby (jim beaver) being in the first ep
was a great addition too. I love the character and it is being
developed More and more every season. The first episode had the new
addition of katie cassidy playing ruby, and i was quite surprised to
find that i actually quite liked her. don't get me wrong, i wasn't one
of the crazy fangirls baying for her blood as soon as i hard about her,
but i was increasingly uncomfortable about the thought of her being in
the show. however, for the two lies she spoke, all was well lol. I
commend Kripkefor allowing us to get used to her by introducing her
quietly to this episode.
The addition of the hunter couple was a nice idea too. Leaves open some
story lines for the reappearance of the wife in seasons (fingers
crossed) to come (the husband unfortunately biting the bullet fairly
quickly). There were a few things which made me cringe on this ep, such
as pride and his 'heres johnny!' quip. Wrong, just wrong. But all i all
i wasn't disappointed by season opener. Heres to many more to come

So. I've been looking forward to this episode for a long time. And I'm
glad to say I haven't been disappointed. The acting was spot on, and
the Seven Deadly sins plot a really good one. I think they could have
actually used this one as a more pivotal episode later in the season,
with some more raw emotion, because this episode seemed too fast-paced
and glossed over. There was only two things that really bugged me about
this episode. The first was the fact they killed off Isaac, who seemed
to be an interesting character. Secondly I found the Ruby-Sam vs Three
Demons Action sequence really cheesy and faked. The slow-mo thing just
didn't do it for me. However I'm going to try my hardest to be
unjudgemental on Ruby until she gets more then two lines to say.
Although it pales in comparison to the legendary Season Two Opener, 'In
My Time of Dying', 'The Magnificent Seven' gets us back into the
roller-coaster ride of Supernatural.

Alright so it was OK the plot was interesting and the acting was great!
I don't like the way Dean's acting he used to care more about his job
and staying alive but, now with a year to live he's reckless. I liked
seeing Bobby again and hope to see Ellen'Jo'and Tamara again. I also
liked that the there wasn't a whole lot of emotion early in the season.
I was surprised that they killed all seven of the demons in this ep. I
think we'll see a lot of great ideas over the course of this season.
The season two finale opened a lot of doors. I'm looking forward to
seeing more of Ruby and finding out her story. What else can I say
except that I'm excited to see what other great ideas the writers will
come up with

Disappointing, but jury is still out. Music, childish behavior etc is a
bit too over the top for this episode. I know the writers are trying to
make a reckless Dean, but Dean has no heart, unless that is Dean's new
character development? Sam and the rest of the characters, just go
through the motions in the season 3 opening. The writing for episode 1
of season appear exhausted. I could be wrong, and more character
development could evolve in other episodes. Will the new characters add
needed life for the plot twists? Will the world besaved? Can the show
be saved? Let's keep on watching. 6 out of 10.Maybe, they can have evil
twists of Sam and Dean with a differentlooking car for a episode? Mike
