This episode is obviously inspired by the early 90s live action film, "Free Willy."

Ariel's killer whale from Spot stops though for a visit, prompting Ariel, Flounder, and Sebastian to create a sea show performance for the merpeople of Atlantica, to convince them that Spot wasn't so bad after all. Unfortunately Spot's performance is also witnessed by British sideshow owner Pettigrew, who captures Spot to add as the latest attraction for Pettigrew's Penguin Park. Pettigrew tries to convince his son Tom of Spot's potential, although Tom has a kinder heart than his father. Sebastian is also captured and tuned into another sideshow act, "Crabby the Tap Dancing Crab." Ariel and Flounder swim to the penguin park and through luck and observation, are able to release Spot from his caged tank. Then through Tom's slyness while the whale was escaping, the penguins are also released. Pettigrew shuts the main gate, so Spot, Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder, and the penguins take a flying leap over the main gate (with everyone hanging onto Spot's dorsal fin) and onto freedom.
