Way to go Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader! You managed to get your information wrong again and dupe another contestant! The show just had a grammar question. Here was the question:
How many adjecives are in this sentence: "Sierra runs down the hill."
The Contestant: 1 adjective
Jeff: ZERO! YOU LOSE!
Now we all know that the world "the" is an adjective, so once again the show has failed to research their information. There is a great deal of disputing as to whether or not "the" is an adjective by people, but the evidence proves that it is. Here is your evidence to the people who disagree.
"Traditional grammar classifies words based on eight parts of speech: the verb, the noun, the pronoun, the adjective, the adverb, the preposition, the conjunction, and the interjection."
"A", "an", and "the" are all articles...but wait! Articles aren't a part of speech! Obviously, because they fall under the category of Adjective. They modify nouns.
EX: "A person is running."
EX: "An elephant slept."
EX: "The plane was flying."
So once again, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader fails.
