27 October 2009 10:54 PM, PDT | ScreenStar | See recent ScreenStar news »

B.O.B is back, and that'll be big news for fans of the gelatinous blob who snagged most of the big laughs in the animated film blockbuster Monsters vs. Aliens. And what's B.O.B. back in? Well, that'd be Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space, an original half-hour special premiering Wednesday, October 28, at 8 p.m. Et/Pt on NBC. Set after the events of Monsters vs. Aliens, Mutant Pumpkins finds Susan/Ginormica (Reese Witherspoon) and everybody's favorite monsters -- among them B.O.B. ScreenStar was on the line last week when Rogen talked to reporters about Mutant Pumpkins. Scenes We Love: Half Baked

20 October 2009 12:15 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Right off the bat, I want to make it clear that you don't have to be half-baked to enjoy Half Baked. But if you thought Pineapple Express was hilarious, and you haven't seen Half Baked, it's high time you rectify this problem. Sure, Pineapple Express had James Franco as a drug dealer slash nice Jewish boy overly concerned with his Bubbe, and it had Danny McBride wigging out in his normal (i.e. awesome) way, and yeah, it was almost the perfect stoner crime caper.

But Half Baked has all that and more! It has Dave Chappelle as both a janitor at a lab that just happens to produce pharmaceutical-grade marijuana and a hip-hop star named Sir Smoke-a-Lot who, when high, complains, cries, and complains that he needs a "backiotomy." It has Guillermo Diaz as Scarface, who wants you to know he's Cuban, B! And it has Jim Breuer in »

Perez Considers Boob Job

19 October 2009 3:01 PM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Rosie Perez is contemplating breast enhancement surgery to give her curvy figure and her career a boost - in a bid to compete with younger Hollywood actresses.

The 45-year-old Pineapple Express star is proud of her assets, but worries her sagging breasts may need a lift to appeal to male audiences as she gets older.

She explains, "It's part of the misogyny in the world. Guys want younger girls and so I think they subconsciously make women think when you're over 40 you're done... and we (women) got smart and were like, 'Forget you, we're fabulous!'

"As time goes on, I will not be opposed to help them (my breasts) out a little bit."

And Perez has hit back at rumours she has already gone under the knife to sculpt her famous curves.

She adds, "These are my naturals (breasts)." »

18 October 2009 12:58 PM, PDT | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the always wonderful Baltimore Comic Con. While there I was lucky enough to interview esteemed comic book artist Jg Jones (interview coming soon) and I was also lucky enough to get a few quick updates from Steve Niles on the current status of the 30 Days of Night sequel. If you’re a fan of 30 Days of Night, which I am, then you may be happy to hear that the sequel is currently prepping to shoot. Here’s what Steve had to say about the upcoming sequel, Freaks of the Heartland, and working with John Carpenter.

Can you talk about what’s going on with the sequel? Its starting to shoot soon right?

Steve Niles: Yeah its starting to shoot, we’re shooting it in about two weeks. The script was written by Ben Ketai and myself, Ben is directing and right »

Good news, Leighton Meester fans! Production Weekly reports that the Gossip Girl beauty has signed on to co-star in the upcoming movie Cowgirl Bandits, alongside Pineapple Express actress Amber Heard (who stars as the female lead in the upcoming Johnny Depp movie The Rum Diary). The film is described as "a young version of Thelma & Louise," so expect a lot of girls-behaving-badly action. Jess Manafort, who worked with Heard on 2007's The Beautiful Ordinary, is set to direct. Amber Heard Dishes on The Stepfather

15 October 2009 10:05 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The busy young actress talks about her role in the remake and The Rum Diary as well

Amber Heard is easily one of the hottest young actresses out there, in more ways than one. After gaining acclaim for smaller roles in studio films like Friday Night Lights and portraying a young Charlize Theron in North Country and, of course, her lead performance as the title character in the cult horror classic All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, the actress has continued to add to her repertoire. The actress has more recently appeared in such hits as Never Back Down, Pineapple Express and the horror-comedy sensation Zombieland, Heard returns to theaters this weekend with the horror remake The Stepfather, which arrives in theaters on October 16. I met her and spoke with her briefly during my set visit last year, but earlier today I had the chance to speak with Heard exclusively »

A Frightening Tale About Horror Movies In Distribution Hell

13 October 2009 1:15 PM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

It takes a lot to be a horror fan. We suffer indignities that other film fans wouldn’t dream of. Genre films are seldom screened for press, leading to frantic scrambling to get a seat at a midnight showing so that we can have that review up and ready for you, dear readers, on opening day. Regular critics scoff at our genre, and often can’t be bothered with it at all. So it rests upon those of us who are true lovers of the genre to keep you abreast of the happenings in horror-land.

Adding to my general frustration with the powers that be is the mishandling of three recent films in particular.  All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Trick ‘r Treat, and Paranormal Activity have all gotten a rotten distribution deal in one way or another. I  asked Scott Weinberg, Managing Editor of Cinematical and Editor of Horror »

Smith's New Success Is Down To Rogen's Weed Diet

5 October 2009 5:17 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Filmmaker Kevin Smith has credited actor Seth Rogen - and a newfound love of marijuana - with pulling him out of a creative downturn.

The Clerks director was uninspired and unsure where his career was headed until the Pineapple Express star talked him into smoking cannabis last summer.

Now Smith lights up at least three times daily and is swamped with new projects, including a Batman comic and the release of upcoming movie A Pair Of Dicks, starring Bruce Willis.

He tells the New York Post, "I know you're supposed to tell kids not to do drugs, but, kids, do it! Do weed! Don't do the other stuff, but weed is good. What you want to do is what I did, build a movie empire and, at age 38, smoke it all away."

And Smith concedes he's "just not good" at directing his own screenplays anymore: "Judd Apatow is way better at being Kevin Smith now than Kevin Smith ever was. So Judd Apatow should do it for a while, and I should figure out something else, and weed has been helpful with that." »

James Franco Joins the Cast of General Hospital

2 October 2009 8:47 PM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

James Franco. He sure has come a long way since the days of starring in the comedy series Freaks and Geeks. Not only has he been a major part of the Spider-Man trilogy, but he has also impressed audiences with both his comedic talents in Pineapple Express and his turn opposite Sean Penn in the drama Milk. So what is next for this rising star? Lead in a new comedy perhaps? Or maybe taking part in a new blockbuster franchise? Nah, that's not it, the next logical step for a rising star is of course to join the cast of a daytime soap opera! Yes, that's right, Franco has for some reason pleaded his case to Jill Farren Phelps, the producer of daytime soap General Hospital, as to why he would be a good addition to the regular cast of the show. Not surprisingly, Phelps is ecstatic about signing Franco onto the show, »

James Franco Cast as Mysterious Man on 'General Hospital'

2 October 2009 1:10 AM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

In somewhat an odd move, James Franco has decided to join the cast of "General Hospital". More surprisingly, his cameo in the soap opera is not only for a one-time stint but rather for a lengthy story arc that stretches up to two months.

Franco, who is in the pinnacle of his feature movie career, will be a mystery person who comes to Port Charles. Fancast said that the character is going toe-to-toe with resident mob thug and the character Jason Morgan. His stint begins on November 20 and will continue up to January next year.

"It's an honor that an actor of Franco's caliber would choose to spend some of his valuable time in Port Charles," Executive Producer Jill Farren Phelps told USA Today. Franco is scheduled to be on the set once a week to do several episodes at one time.

James Franco is Admitted into General Hospital

2 October 2009 12:20 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

It’s about to get sudsy.  Fresh off of nominated turns as a lovable stoner (”Pineapple Express” and a lovable activist (”Milk”), James Franco has decided to join the popular soap opera “General Hospital.”  The details from Variety are scarce but it has been confirmed that Franco will play a mysterious person who enters Port Charles, the primary setting for “General Hospital.”  The man’s intentions, of course, are unclear but the same cannot be said for the show’s producers–Franco’s two month story arc begins during November 20, coinciding with November sweeps.

“Gh,” as the fans call it, is no stranger to big time stars.  In the old days, the show had guest stars like Milton Berle, Sammy Davis Jr. and even Leonard Nimoy.  More recently, however, the biggest draw has been Billy Dee Williams.  That said, I am happy to see Franco restoring honor to the title of Gh Guest Star. »

James Franco Bends Over and Picks Up the Soap

1 October 2009 9:20 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

Let's face it, James Franco is not the sort of actor who really needs to stoop to appearing on daytime drama. Not that there's anything wrong with daytime drama, mind you (so don't write to us saying, "Whaddya mean...?!"), but in the vernacular, it's known as the soap opera...a medium in which many actors seem to languish for their entire careers. So why would James Franco, veteran of the 'Spider-Man' franchise and Milk choose to do a run on General Hospital?

According to SoapNet, the the actor approached producer Jill Farren Phelps, hoping to convince her that he would be a good addition to the daytime drama. And apparently, she agreed.

"We are thrilled to announce that James Franco will play an integral part in a lengthy run on 'General Hospital' this fall," said Phelps. "It's an honor that an actor of James' caliber would »

James Franco Checks Into General Hospital

1 October 2009 3:45 PM, PDT | TVStar | See recent TVStar news »

James Franco gave an Oscar worthy performance last year in the critically acclaimed film Milk starring Sean Penn. The native Californian is an influential member in Hollywood, but as soon as you have the actor pegged, he goes and does a movie that surprises you. For example, after playing the villain in Spider-Man and before playing the compassionate boyfriend to Harvey Milk in Milk, Franco took on a the role of a stoner. Always shocking audiences, Franco's next move has him checking into General Hospital. Yup, you read yet, Oscar nominee and Nyu Tish student James Franco will be joining the cast of the longtime soap opera General Hospital. Soap Opera's have been the stepping stones to many famous Hollywood actors such as Kelly Ripa, Demi Moore, Brad Pitt, Courtney Cox, and 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin. Rarely have we seen Hollywood actors who demand millions of dollars per film slide back into soap operas. »

Blu-Ray Review: Seth Rogen, Anna Faris in Hilarious ‘Observe and Report’

1 October 2009 2:13 PM, PDT | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – All of you DVD and Blu-Ray buyers who lament the neverending flow of slapstick comedies that basically all feel and look the same owe it to director Jody Hill and star Seth Rogen to rent or buy “Observe and Report,” one of the best comedies of the year to date and one of the most daring movies of the last several years.

Blu-Ray Rating: 4.5/5.0

The ads made “Observe and Report” look like nothing more than a variation on “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” or, even more inaccurately, a romantic comedy with Rogen and co-star Anna Faris. Audiences weren’t sure what to expect and, consequently, stayed away. “Observe and Report” should have been pitched to the arthouse crowd, one that could handle a film with extensive drug use, male frontal nudity, extreme violence, and even arguable date rape. This is material not for the faint of heart. It’s not a movie for everyone. »

General Hospital fans, already excited over the return of Jonathan Jackson, now have another reason to look forward to the fall:

Film star James Franco will appear for multiple episodes on the soap opera; his first of three scheduled tape dates is October 30.

Franco will then debut on November 20. Jori Petersen, of ABC Daytime, says the actor's run will last for a few months.

“The only thing I can tell you about his character right now is he is playing a mysterious person who comes to Port Charles who will be Jason Morgan’s worst nightmare,” Petersen said.

Franco’s impressive movie resume includes Milk, Pineapple Express and Spider-Man. »

Movie star James Franco checking into General Hospital

1 October 2009 12:43 PM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

In the biggest casting shocker since Elizabeth Taylor appeared on General Hospital as Helena Cassadine, movie star James Franco is joining General Hospital for a couple of months as a mystery man who comes to Port Charles. Although not confirmed by the show, it's likely that Franco will be playing Vlad Cassadine, another member of that evil family that vexes the citizens of Port Chuck. His first airdate is November 20.

Why would Franco, who's busy with movies and has appeared in Spider-Man, The Pineapple Express, Milk and other hits, take a role on a daytime soap? There's no word from the actor yet, but it could be that they threw a lot of money at him. There's also the possibility that he's a soap opera fan and thought it would be a lark. Ummm, I'm thinking it's more likely the former.Continue reading Movie star James Franco checking into General Hospital. »
