Exclusive Interview: Danny McBride on Your Highness, Up In The Air and Eastbound & Down

23 November 2009 9:40 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Danny McBride told me there is a scene in the upcoming David Gordon Green medieval comedy Your Highness where Natalie Portman asks him if his pussy hurts.  If you weren’t excited to see Green’s follow up to Pineapple Express, I don’t know what else will convince you after finding out that Natalie Portman says incredibly dirty and disgusting things to both Danny McBride and James Franco.

But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Two days ago, I sat down with Danny McBride for an exclusive interview to help promote Jason Reitman’s awesome movie Up in the Air.  But while we spent a few minutes on that film, we spent the majority of our time talking about the next season of Eastbound & Down and his upcoming film Your Highness, which he just wrapped in Belfast.  So if you’d like to read or listen to a great interview with Danny McBride, »

5 Delicious Moments From James Franco's General Hospital Debut

20 November 2009 2:50 PM, PST | Movieline | See recent Movieline news »

Hurricane Franco touched down in Port Charles this afternoon, kicking off the Pineapple Express actor's surprising arc on General Hospital. As an elusive performance artist whose "canvas is murder," Franco spent most of the episode lurking in the shadows, snacking behind dumpsters and waving into security cameras with fingerless gloves. But when Franco did escape those shadows and stare meaningfully into the distance as Adam Lambert's "It's A Mad World" played in the background, he was soap good. »

Judd Apatow Says 'Pineapple Express 2' Likely, 'Superbad 2' Not So Much

20 November 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

by Matt Thompson

Looking for a sequel to the hit summer comedy "Superbad"? Don’t expect to get one anytime soon. The genius producer behind the film, Judd Apatow, revealed as much when he sat down to talk shop with his fans on Funny or Die yesterday. While "Pineapple Express 2" looks like it may hit theaters at some point in the foreseeable future, "Superbad" won’t be getting a sequel.

(Editor's note: I would have embedded the video here, but Judd Apatow is a profane man and the words he uses are too much for members of our reading audience. I welcome you to track it down on the great ship Internets.)

“I can't get [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] to make the ‘Superbad’ sequel. I begged, but they don't want to ruin it. They think it's a gem of a movie and they don't want a crappy second," Judd said. He later stated, "There's »

Video: Judd Apatow Talks Doing Sequels for 'Pineapple Express' and 'Superbad'

20 November 2009 12:54 AM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Stand-up comedian and film producer Judd Apatow sits down for a Q & A session with the Funny or Die Writer's Room live stream, during when he talks about the possibility of making sequels to two of his produced films, "Pineapple Express" and "Superbad". He says, while sequel of "Pineapple Express" is likely to be made, it's highly unlikely for a sequel to "Superbad" to be made because its star Seth Rogen and screenwriter Evan Goldberg don't want to ruin the original.

"I can't get [Rogen and Goldberg] to make the 'Superbad' sequel. I begged, but they don't want to ruin it. They think it's a gem of a movie and they don't want a crappy second," Judd muses. He goes on revealing, "There's a little talk about a 'Pineapple Express' sequel if that's your cup of tea ... your bowl of smoke. You probably have a better shot of seeing that [than any Superbad 2 or any other Apatow sequel]."

Judd Apatow on Sequels: No Superbad 2, Pineapple Express 2 Maybe

19 November 2009 9:48 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The Apatow-verse still hasn't dealt with sequels as of yet, but it's bound to happen eventually. Yesterday Judd Apatow appeared on the Funny or Die Writer's Room and talked about topics ranging from his first project and living with Adam Sandler, to potential sequels for films he's directed or produced. In regards to the latter, he offered up some info on the potential for Superbad and Pineapple Express sequels. Apatow seemed pretty confident that Superbad 2 probably won't happen anytime soon, despite how much he's begged Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. He says "they don't want to ruin it", and that "it's a gem of a movie, and they don't want a crappy second." He goes on to say that there's a little talk of a Pineapple Express sequel, and that we'd "have a better shot at seeing that." While I had fun with Superbad, I'd personally much rather see any »

It's time for the mystery man to finally reveal himself. James Franco, who is notably credited for his work in the Spider-Man trilogy, Pineapple Express and Milk, officially makes his debut on General Hospital today. To keep things interesting, though, we've only been given a few clues about his character Franco, who reportedly has an unusual goal and will supposedly be the "worst nightmare" for mobster Jason Morgan (Steve Burton).

Pineapple Express 2 Might Still Happen, But Superbad 2 Won't

19 November 2009 5:09 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

I often get tired of writing about sequels that will never happen, but just because people want to see them, they always continue to exist as rumors forever and ever. Comedian extraordinaire Judd Apatow recently appeared on the Funny or Die Writer's Room live stream (found via The Playlist) and talked ever so briefly about two sequels to movies he produced. The first is Superbad, which has had sequel talk since the day it came out. And the second is Pineapple Express, which wasn't as big of a success as Superbad, but has also been talked about for a while. I'm down for seeing more from either, although I liked Superbad better. "I can't get [Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg] to make the Superbad sequel. I begged, but they don't want to ruin it. They think it's a gem of a movie and they don't want a crappy second," Apatow said. ... »

Judd Apatow Talks Possible Sequels to Superbad and Pineapple Express

19 November 2009 11:01 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

FunnyOrDie hosted a live Q&A online with writer/producer/director Judd Apatow.  At one point during the Q&A, Apatow was asked if he had any plans for sequels to the hit movies Superbad and Pineapple Express both of which co-starred Seth Rogen who also co-wrote the script with writing partner Evan Goldberg.  Apatow says it’s highly unlikely they would ever do a sequel to Superbad because Rogen and Goldberg don’t want to ruin the original.  As for Pineapple Express, Apatow goes a little further and says they might do a sequel but right now there’s nothing planned.  Finally, Apatow does explain that he’s not opposed to building off previous films as the upcoming Get Him to the Greek is a spin-off of Forgetting Sarah Marshall starring Russell Brand’s character Aldous Snow.

Judd Apatow Lets Internet Interview Him, Here Come ‘Freaks and Geeks’

16 November 2009 2:57 PM, PST | Tubefilter.tv | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Judd Apatow is letting the internet interview him, live, on Funny or Die's Writers Room series this Wednesday at 12:30 Pst. They are taking questions for the famed comedy writer-director (Superbad, Anchorman, Pineapple Express) on Facebook and so far 160 people have submitted their pressing inquests. From the looks of it, this could be worth a new lunchtime browser window. Over/Under on number of Freaks and Geeks questions is 4. Some highlights: Would you ever consider making us a good, R-Rated cartoon? Far too few of them. (Jim Moore) The Three Men and a Baby trilogy will be finishing up with Three Men and a Bride, fans of the trilogy are dying to know if you will be working on this much awaited project? (Dave Hanson) How come "Walk Hard" tanked so hard? That one was kinda not too shitty. And when I say "not too shitty", I mean "I could »

Unrated Promo Trailer for Leaves Of Grass Starring Edward Norton & Edward Norton; Film Opens December 25th

15 November 2009 10:12 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

With some films shouting their Oscar intentions from the rooftops, Tim Blake Nelson’s Leaves of Grass may be trying to fly in under the radar.  For a comedy-thriller starring Edward Norton in dual roles and co-starring Keri Russell, Melanie Lynskey, Susan Sarandon, and Richard Dreyfuss, we’re only now getting a full (albeit non-mpaa approved) trailer, although another flickered online earlier this year.

Norton plays twin brothers, one a respectable college professor and the other a redneck pot dealer.  Lured under the false pretense of his brother’s death, the professor returns to his home town only to be entangled in a doomed scheme against a local drug lord (Dreyfuss).  It’s described as a stoner-comedy-thriller but don’t start thinking it’s along the lines of Pineapple Express.  The film is apparently “a fiercely original work on par with the idiosyncrasies and layers of the Coen Brothers and »

That James Franco Appearance On 'General Hospital' Really Is Performance Art

13 November 2009 9:00 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Depending on your age, James Franco is either "the stoner from 'Freaks & Geeks'" or "the stoner from 'Pineapple Express.'" Or Harry Osborn I suppose, if you've seen the little-known comic book adaptation of "Spider-Man."

What you might not realize is that Franco has also dipped his toes into the world of avant-garde filmmaking. He's allied himself with one artist in particular: John Carter, who operates under the professional name Carter. The two collaborated on a 2008 film, "Erased James Franco," an hour-long piece in which Franco re-creates past performances -- his own and others, particularly Rock Hudson and Julianne Moore -- without providing any context. It seems that this Franco/Carter partnership is also what led to the actor taking his soon-to-begin guest gig on TV soap opera "General Hospital."

The revelation came from a recent interview Carter gave to Movieline. "It was an idea that I posed to him, »

James Franco, 'Donnie Darko' And Hilarious One-Liners Collide In This 'General Hospital' Promo

12 November 2009 8:30 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

I have nothing against soap operas. I spent many of my younger, carefree college days planted on the couch -- and missing class, incidentally -- watching "Days of Our Lives." So I can understand, even respect, a person's need to watch their stories. That said, I can't help but chuckle at the sight (and sound) of "Spider-Man" and "Pineapple Express" star James Franco in this "General Hospital" promo.

Yes, that is Gary Jules' cover of "Mad World," made famous by its appearance in Richard Kelly's "Donnie Darko," playing behind the action. And Franco does indeed smile smugly while uttering the words "Violence sells... that's what I'm all about, right?"

I don't have words. One of the producers here in the office -- I'm not naming names, to protect the innocent -- is a fan, and she just tried catching me up on the "Gh" goings-on leading up to Franco's arrival. »

Who will die? Check out James Franco's General Hospital promo

11 November 2009 3:02 PM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

The James Franco experiment has begun on General Hospital. Actually, we have now learned that the movie actor, best known for Spider-Man and Milk and The Pineapple Express, has decided to do a two-month guest role on the ABC soap opera as part of a project he's doing with a filmmaker named Carter.

Franco and Carter are making a documentary called Erased James Franco. His guest turn on 30 Rock may also be part of the movie. Nobody knows for certain.

One thing I do know for certain is that ABC is taking Franco's appearance on GH very seriously. They're working around his schedule, giving him a strangely interesting character to play, and promoting it like mad.

Date Night Trailer Starring Tina Fey and Steve Carell

11 November 2009 12:48 PM, PST | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

The first trailer for Shawn Levy's Date Night just hit the internet today, and it seems to be getting a pretty lukewarm response across the blogosphere. Being that this is the first big screen team up of Tina Fey and Steve Carell, I would have thought there would be a little more excitement out there. Then again, I suppose based on what we're shown in the trailer, it does look rather mediocre. The concept definitely seems dated and predictable: a married couple goes out for a rare night on the town and through a case of mistaken identity ends up being chased by some hitmen. Still, there's a part of me that thinks that Carell and Fey will be able to make it something worth watching, and there are hints of that in the trailer (the "killshot" line made me snicker to myself). I just don't know about some of these full-blown action scenes. »

Celebrate The Birthday Of The Ak-47 Inventor With These Fire-Powered Movie Moments

10 November 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Today marks a joyful anniversary for action movie fans and a rather unpleasant one for gun control advocates. Exactly 90 years ago, Mikhail Kalashnikov, the man who invented the Ak-47 assault rifle, was born in a small Siberian village. If we can, though, let us put aside the Ak's bloody legacy on the battlefield and focus on all the badassery the weapon has unleashed on the big screen.

Whether they're battling Russians, trading in black market goods or bang-bang-banging their way through the city streets, movie characters have embraced the trusty Ak or later variants like the Akm or Sks. And we, in turn, have embraced those bullet-spewing beauties. Here are some of our cinematic favs (click the image above to check out our Ak-47 flipbook gallery)...

Scenes We Love: Half Baked

20 October 2009 12:15 PM, PDT | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Right off the bat, I want to make it clear that you don't have to be half-baked to enjoy Half Baked. But if you thought Pineapple Express was hilarious, and you haven't seen Half Baked, it's high time you rectify this problem. Sure, Pineapple Express had James Franco as a drug dealer slash nice Jewish boy overly concerned with his Bubbe, and it had Danny McBride wigging out in his normal (i.e. awesome) way, and yeah, it was almost the perfect stoner crime caper.

But Half Baked has all that and more! It has Dave Chappelle as both a janitor at a lab that just happens to produce pharmaceutical-grade marijuana and a hip-hop star named Sir Smoke-a-Lot who, when high, complains, cries, and complains that he needs a "backiotomy." It has Guillermo Diaz as Scarface, who wants you to know he's Cuban, B! And it has Jim Breuer in »
