In an apparent effort to avoid last year's embarrassment when the titles of the "short lists" of Emmy contenders leaked out on the Internet, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences made the unprecedented decision on Thursday to itself reveal the full lists. The lists -- ten shows in the best-comedy category; ten in the best-drama -- are determined by the votes of all members of the academy. A "blue ribbon" panel then winnows the lists down to the five official nominees in each category, which this year are due to be announced on July 17. (This year's Emmy awards show is scheduled for Sept. 21.) The ten drama finalists include: Boston Legal, Damages, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, Grey's Anatomy, House, Lost, Mad Men, The Tudors and The Wire. The ten comedy finalists include: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, Family Guy, Flight of the Conchords, The Office, Pushing Daisies, 30 Rock, Two and a Half Men, Ugly Betty and Weeds.

Is it hard being over 40 in youth-obsessed Hollywood? No way, says new mom Salma Hayek. "I'm 41 now," she said while being honored at Tuesday's Women in Film Crystal+Lucy Awards. "And I have to say, it is the best time in my life." That prompted Jada Pinkett Smith – who was also being recognized, along with her costars from the upcoming chick flick, The Women – to shout out, "You look good!" Hayek – who gave birth to daughter Valentina Paloma last September with billionaire fiancé Francois-Henri Pinault – said she is finally coming into her own. "I have learned to enjoy time to be a woman.

Ugly Betty star Ashley Jensen has been rocked by the revelation she has a secret sister, who she has never met.
The Scottish actress recently found out that her father Ivar had an affair when she was a child - and a half-sister called Gillian was the product of the illicit romance.
Jensen has never met her sibling, who is approximately the same age as the 38-year-old actress, and cut contact with her father after her parents split when she was a kid.
Her father Ivar has confirmed the news, telling British newspaper the Sunday Mirror, "I had an affair when I was with Ashley's mum and that's where my other daughter came from.
"I only found out about her recently. She came out of the blue. She looks like me and Ashley."

Lindsay Lohan has taken her name out of the race for consideration at the forthcoming Emmy Awards - because her guest spot on Ugly Betty was too "brief".
The actress landed a cameo role in the hit TV show, and was thus eligible to be nominated for the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series trophy.
But Lohan insists she does not want to be put forward for the award just yet, because her character only graces the screen in one short scene.
Her publicist Leslie Sloane tells the Los Angeles Times' Gold Derby blog, "The appearance was brief. We made a decision to wait."
Instead Lohan - who plays a bully on the programme - will wait until the next season of Ugly Betty, when her character will have a more prominent role.

After one year of newlywed bliss, Ana Ortiz says she's ready to start a family with musician husband Noah Lebenzon. Hollywood actor Samuel L. Jackson is set to follow in the footsteps of Salma Hayek and become an executive producer for a U.S. TV network.
Hayek found success behind the scenes by executive producing hit show Ugly Betty and now Jackson has followed suit by signing a deal with CBS Paramount - the studio behind the Csi: Crime Scene Investigation franchise.
The agreement will see the Pulp Fiction star develop and executive produce projects for the studio through his Uppity Films production company - and he is also open to the idea of appearing in any shows he develops, much like Hayek's sporadic guest spots in Ugly Betty.
CBS Paramount president David Stapf is delighted to see Jackson sign the two-year deal.
He says, "Samuel Jackson is not only a fan of television but a really astute historian who knows it well."
The star has previously produced Spike TV's animated series Afro Samurai which returns to U.S. TV screens this autumn.

At least four television series that were to have been produced in Hollywood will be shot in New York instead in order to allow producers to take advantage of recently enacted local and state tax credits for shows filmed in that state, the Los Angeles Times observed today (Tuesday). The series include, Ugly Betty, Life on Mars, Fringe, and Kings. In fact so much TV and film production is suddenly moving to New York that producers are having a difficult time finding studio space there where they can be shot. Jim Sharp, an executive with 20th Century Fox Television, told the Times, "If you try and lock in a soundstage facility, there are people standing in line. You better not blink, or you're going to miss an opportunity." The exodus of shows to New York has raised concerns among Hollywood production crew workers, who already felt the effects of the writers strike in their own pocketbooks. In an interview with the Times, Steve Dayan, a Teamsters' business agent, said, "Television is really the lifeblood of the below-the-line economy in Hollywood, so if we start losing TV series to other states, then obviously it's going to create more hardship for our members."

With the recently concluded second season of Ugly Betty, fans can’t help but think what’s in store next season. Now that the show is on hiatus in preparation for its third season, two of Ugly Betty’s cast members spoke up about other possible Ugly Betty ventures, and what’s to come in the third season of the show.
Recently, Michael Urie, who plays the flamboyant Marc St. James, spoke to Britain’s Heart Fm and talked about the possibility of a Broadway rendition of the highly successful dramedy.

Christian Siriano has come a long way from bagging the prizes on season 4 of Project Runway, when he was just a mere 21 years old. Inspired by theater costumes as a young boy, Siriano began his career as a freelance make-up artist for Stila cosmetics while designing wedding gowns for clients. Ugly Betty star Michael Urie has let slip TV bosses are planning on taking the hit U.S. show to Broadway.
The cast of the programme are soon going to be able to showcase their vocal talents in a musical episode - and now Urie admits there are plans afoot to stage a full theatrical production in New York.
Urie insists that if the Broadway show is given the go ahead, he would like all of the original cast to take part.
He tells British radio station Heart Fm, "They do want to do an Ugly Betty musical, a full-on Broadway musical, but it's all hush-hush. I think it would be great, and they should use the cast from the show.
"I think we would all do it, although we maybe don't dance and sing as well as professional singers and dancers. I think it would be fun for us to do it for a while, and then they could get real people in. They definitely want to do an episode that is a musical one, but then they want to do a full stage show. I think it's a great idea. It would definitely work."

Victoria Beckham has chastised critics who have accused her of only forging a close friendship with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to further her acting career.
The former Spice Girl became firm friends with the Cruise family when she and her soccer ace husband David moved to Los Angeles in July 2007.
Since the Hollywood move, the Wannabe hitmaker has made a transition to the small screen, making a number of guest appearances - most notably on hit comedy Ugly Betty.
But Beckham insists she is not interested in a Hollywood acting career because she is well aware of her lack of skills in front of the camera - and has snubbed several film roles as a result.
She says, "I'm happy doing what I'm doing right now. I'm a terrible actress. Everyone thinks I'm only friends with Tom and Katie to be in a movie but it's not true. I've turned down lots of roles."

The show is becoming famous for its celebrity cameos, with supermodel Naomi Campbell and Lindsay Lohan both appearing in the latest series of the hit comedy.

Thursday night saw a slew of season finales and therefore an uptick in overall ratings for the night, which have fallen steadily since the writers' strike. Nevertheless, they remained well below their levels of a year ago. Abc's Ugly Betty may have won the 8:00 p.m. hour, but its total audience of 8.47 million was down by more than 2 million from the same week a year ago, Cbs's Csi: Crime Scene Investigation won the 9:00 hour with 17.73 million viewers, but even that number was down by 2.72 million from last year. The worst drop was recorded by Abc's Grey's Anatomy, which dropped to 15.18 million from 22.57 million a year ago.
