Pete Wentz Appears on MTV VMAs Promo Video

28 August 2008 8:45 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Fall Out Boy's basist Pete Wentz has just been shot with British comedian Russell Brand. The 40-seconds video will be promoting 2008 MTV Video Music Awards, which will be aired from Hollywood Paramount Studio on September 7.

Beside Pete, other stars, who are taped for the MTV awards promos, are Britney Spears and LL Cool J. While Britney appears on two promo ads with an elephant as a featured guest to remind people for her last year's disastrous performance in the show, LL Cool J simply sits next to the comedian for a conversation in another video.

Artists who are confirmed to perform at the MTV annual show are multi-platinum songstress Rihanna, Pink, rapper T.I., and Tennessean band Paramore. Meanwhile, some star names, who have just been announced to appear on the event's stage as additional presenters, include Vanessa Hudgens and Miley Cyrus.

Elsewhere, Russell, who will be hosting the awards show,

Blu-ray Review: Universal Blu-ray Action Starter Pack

28 August 2008 1:30 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Universal appears to have established waves of releasing the same titles they started releasing on HD DVD before the format went under and the first wave is what they are considering their Blu-ray Action Starter Pack. This collection, whose titles can also be purchased individually, contains the Blu-ray editions of Miami Vice, End of Days and U-571. These are three titles I am sure all of you recognize, but I am not entirely sure they are three titles anyone really recognizes as good. However, these releases show promise for future Bd releases out of Universal, which is a good thing. First off, the best of the bunch is easily Michael Mann's highly flawed Miami Vice. This is a film that upset me more than you can possibly imagine. Mann looked like he had the perfect cast and "Miami Vice" was his baby. I actually watched this one

Russell Brand has revealed that he is looking forward to revisiting his drug addict past for his next movie. The comedian will reprise his Forgetting Sarah Marshall role as out-of-control rock star Aldous Snow in new comedy Get Him To The Greek. Brand Eager For Movie Role

27 August 2008 11:57 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British funnyman Russell Brand is desperate to begin work on his new film Get Him To The Greek - because his drug-addicted character is a reminder of his past.

Brand has been cast to reprise his Forgetting Sarah Marshall role as Aldous Snow - a rock star struggling to stay sober - in the forthcoming comedy.

And he's convinced playing a relapsed junkie will be therapeutic - because former addict Brand quit drugs and alcohol in 2003.

He says, "The opportunity to revisit it (drugs) without the consequences is exciting. I might even find a way of justifying using actual drugs. It.s like, .Well, this is acting. Come on'..

Bell gets Astronomical

25 August 2008 9:07 PM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

I was never really a fan of Kristen Bell until I saw her in that pink bikini top in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. That little ditty has Princess-Leah-in-the-gold-bikini written all over it and will forever have a special place in my spank bank. News that Bell has signed on to voice the female lead in the feature film version of Astro Boy has only made her all the more spank-worthy. Although I'm not a die hard fan of the classic manga tale, I'm happy to see that Kristen is looking to branch...

Kristen Bell Aboard 'Astro Boy'

25 August 2008 12:35 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Detailed information about the character Bell will be voicing has yet to be shared. Nevertheless, the actress whose recent film credit include "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" has been listed among the previously announced voice cast of Freddie Highmore, Nicolas Cage, Donald Sutherland, Bill Nighy, Nathan Lane and Eugene Levy.

To be directed by David Bowers using a script from Timothy Harris, "Astro Boy" follows a young robot invented to replace the late son of a brilliant scientist. Check Out the New 'Max Payne' Posters

21 August 2008 5:03 PM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

Filed under: Action, 20th Century Fox, Movie Marketing, Games and Game Movies, Images

It's funny how little things can make a big difference. When the first poster was released from the big-screen version of Max Payne, I have to tell you; I was pretty underwhelmed. But my opinion of the design has improved now that I've gotten a gander at the two new posters for the flick (see larger versions of both in the gallery below). Although, I have to ask, who knew that Mr. Payne was such a 'shoe-gazer'? The original Max seemed a bit more thick-skinned than his feature film version; Wahlberg makes the man look downright depressed at times.

Mark Wahlberg stars as Payne, a cop who has lost his family and partner at the hands of a powerful crime syndicate. When he is left to his own devices, our hero sets out on a mission of revenge for his loved ones,

Brand Favourite For Rocky Horror Remake

18 August 2008 5:12 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British funnyman Russell Brand is expected to take the lead role in the remake of cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, according to reports.

The original 1975 movie, which starred Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Meat Loaf, is set to be remade, with studio bosses were keen to replicate the original's success.

And British comedian Brand, who kicked off his film career in Forgetting Sarah Marshall earlier this year, is favourite to take on Curry's coveted role of transvestite scientist Frank N Furter, according to the London Paper.

A source tells the publication, "It would make sense for him to be Frank N Furter."

Movie Review - 'Pineapple Express'

5 August 2008 11:46 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Pineapple Express

Starring Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Gary Cole

Directed by David Gordon Green

Rated R

Pineapple Express certainly comes at you with all it has, but that might be the problem. It's an interesting mix of a stoner comedy and an action movie, and individually, those things are well represented here. It's when the stoner comedy has to have an ending like an action movie that Pineapple Express loses its way.

This is another movie that has received Judd Apatow's blessing, and to his legion of fans, this movie will probably rank somewhere below the late summer entry of 2007, Superbad. The reason being: Pineapple Express doesn't have a naturally funny premise. It's not about two guys who shouldn't score hot chicks trying to score hot chicks. This is about two potheads on the run from guys who want to kill them. As evidence of their intentions, the

Very Funny Trailer for 'Role Models' With Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott

5 August 2008 4:05 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

It pained me to say it at the time, but Paul Rudd - one of my favorite comedic actors and based on a couple of interviews I've done with him, one of the truly cool guys in the business - was in the worst movie of the year until The Love Guru came out. That movie is Over Her Dead Body. It's atrocious. I suppose the only comfort is Paul looks uncomfortable the whole time, as if he knows it's lousy. Since it was only bad and amateurish and stupid and not all of those things plus offensive the way The Love Guru was, it was elevated to the second worst movie of the year.

I'll excuse his walk-on in Forgetting Sarah Marshall from this discussion and get straight to the point: With Role Models, he appears to be back on track.

It's not often that a slacker comedy makes

Smith, Apatow, Snyder and Miller Provide Endless Entertainment

26 July 2008 2:28 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Sure, seeing the Watchmen footage was pretty cool, but it was basically just a mild extension of the trailer giving it something of a "Scene it" impression. Also, seeing the first bit of footage from Wolverine was pretty cool (details here), but it was just more of the same. Outside of seeing the Very impressive teaser trailer for Tron 2 (details here), the Comic Con panel hosted by Entertainment Weekly with directors Kevin Smith, Judd Apatow, Zack Snyder and Frank Miller was easily the most enjoyable thing I have seen so far. To be 100% honest with you I have no idea what the ultimate goal behind this panel really was. It was called "Visionaries" but it really boiled down to an extended Q&A session beginning with moderated questions and ending with several questions from attendees. It was filled with humor and Kevin Smith's inner fanboy leaked out all over the stage,

Sacked Brand Back At MTV

25 July 2008 12:08 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Comedian Russell Brand is returning to work for MTV, seven years after he was sacked over a sick 9/11 prank.

The lanky funnyman was given the boot as a video jockey (Vj) in London after arriving for work dressed as terrorist Osama Bin Laden the day after the September 11 terror attacks.

He has since forged a successful career in stand-up comedy - and has now been asked to present this year's MTV Video Music Awards in Hollywood.

Brand, who recently played a rock musician in movie Forgetting Sarah Marshall, says, "I didn't mention (the Bin Laden incident) to them when they offered me this gig, which leads me to believe that they haven't investigated my career history too closely."

And the notorious womaniser has promised more controversy, adding: "I'm planning to have lesbian kisses with Britney (Spears) and Madonna individually.

"It's not going to be easy what with my genitals, but God, I will try."

Naomi Campbell hates comedian Russell Brand - because she believes he once said "horrible things" about her friend and fellow supermodel Kate Moss.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star was briefly linked to Moss in 2006, but neither of them have ever disclosed the true nature of their relationship.

But Campbell is now accusing the funnyman of speaking negatively about 34-year-old Moss.

She says, "I don't like him. He's said horrible things about my friend - and no one does that!"

Brand Sorry For 'Offensive' Phone Prank

16 July 2008 5:07 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

British comedian Russell Brand has been forced to apologise over a recent phone prank - in which he claimed to have information about a serial sex attacker.

Detectives in the city of Northampton, England issued warnings to women in the area following a spate of violent rapes, and cops are currently appealing for information about the incidents.

Brand incurred the wrath of the police force by making a prank call to emergency services during a stand-up routine in the city on Saturday - claming to have spotted the sex attacker.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall star reportedly told the audience to be quiet while he made the call on stage, telling the police phone operator, "I've got some information for you. I've seen a gentleman who fits that description.

"He was wearing a lime-green top and polka-dot trousers. I thought, 'Well, look at the state of him.' He looked like (children's TV presenter) Timmy Mallett."

And now the funnyman has issued an apology over the incident.

He says in a statement, "I appreciate the seriousness of the issue and I am devastated by the possibility that I may have offended vulnerable people. I maintain that through discourse we can illuminate these dark behaviours but that ought not to be at the expense of people's feelings."

TiVo Users Don't Skip Movie Ads

Commercials for new movies are the least likely to be skipped by users of TiVo digital video recorders, according to a study by the DVR maker. The study, conducted in April, found that the least fast-forwarded (and most-watched) ad was for Universal's comedy film Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which aired during NBC's The Office. (The episode itself, however, did not even make TiVo's list of the ten most-watched shows.) The second least fast-forwarded ad was for Sony Pictures' Hancock which aired during an episode of ABC's Grey's Anatomy. Other movies making the top-ten list included Sony's Made of Honor (#4), Universal's Baby Mama (#7), and Paramount/Marvel's Iron Man (#10).

Three more join new Apatow comedy

12 June 2008 9:51 AM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

We know nearly nothing about the plot of Judd Apatow’s next comedy, but at least we now know who’s in it. Eric Bana, Jason Schwartzman and Jonah Hill are the latest to join the cast of “Funny People,” according to Variety.

Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen and Leslie Mann already boarded the project, which is set in the world of standup comedy and focuses on a comedian who has a near-death experience. That’s pretty much everything Apatow wants us to know.

“Suberbad” screenwriters Rogen and Evan Goldberg will exec produce the film, which heads into production this September. The release of “Funny People” is scheduled for next summer.

Although it’s hard to believe, Bana already has some experience in the standup milieu. He kicked off his career in 1993 in the Australian comedy series “Full Frontal.”

Hill, an Apatow regular, was last seen in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” Schwartzman

Ladies' Day Returns To Theaters

3 June 2008 10:38 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Even the box office estimates for the opening weekend of Warner Bros.' Sex and the City turned out to be too conservative as the film earned a million and a half dollars more on Sunday than studio executives had reckoned. The film took in a total of $56.9 million for the weekend, substantially ahead of Paramount's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which brought in $44.8 million in its second week, pushing its gross past the $200-million mark to $215.6 million. The No. 3 film, Universal's horror flick The Strangers, also performed better than expected with $21 million -- more than what the film cost to produce. In fourth place, Iron Man appeared to have legs of steel, as it brought in another $13.5 million after five weeks. Rounding out the top five, Disney's The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian added $12.7 million to its gross in its third week. The top ten films over the weekend, according to final figures compiled by Media by Numbers (figures in parentheses represent total gross to date):1. Sex and the City: The Movie, Warner Bros, $56,848,056, (New); 2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Paramount, $44,754,615, 2 Wks. ($215,635,899); 3. The Strangers, Universal, $20,997,985, (New); 4. Iron Man, Paramount, $13,541,264, 5 Wks. ($276,166,336); 5. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Disney, $12,704,545, 3 Wks. ($115,362,725); 6. Sex More In Vogue Than Crystal Skull

2 June 2008 10:32 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

When Friday's box-office results for Sex and the City came in on Saturday, Hollywood gurus were stunned. The movie had earned just about as much as Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had earned the previous Friday, just under $30 million. While advance word was that the movie would do especially well on Friday as groups of women got together for the premiere, no one had predicted that it would do that well. But Warner Bros. distribution chief Dan Fellman told the Associated Press, "There were women that came in and bought out entire theaters in advance and invited all their friends." Co-star Sarah Jessica Parker told the New York Times, "It is kind of mind-boggling." (Eighty-five percent of the audience Friday night was female.) And in fact the movie took in only half its Friday gross on Saturday and again on Sunday, winding up with $55.7 million -- just about what it reportedly cost to produce. And yes, it became the top moneymaker at the box office for the weekend, pushing Indy into second place with $46 million -- also something that no one had predicted. Also opening solidly was the horror flick The Strangers, with about $20.7 million, to place third. Some experts are predicting that Crystal Skull will return to the top spot next week and remain there for a while, pointing out that the potential audience for that film is far greater than that for Sex and the City -- especially as kids begin pouring out of school for summer vacation.

The top ten films for the weekend, according to studio estimates compiled by Media by Numbers: 1. Sex and the City, $55.7 million; 2. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, $46 million; 3. The Strangers, $20.7 million; 4. Iron Man, $14 million; 5. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, $13 million; 6. What Happens in Vegas, $6.9 million; 7. Baby Mama, $2.2 million; 8. Speed Racer, $2.1 million; 9. Made of Honor, $2 million; 10. Forgetting Sarah Marshall, $1 million.
