Katherine Heigl more confident with age

3 July 2009 10:00 PM, PDT | From Monsters and Critics | See recent Monsters and Critics news

Katherine Heigl always thinks she looks good. The 'Knocked Up' actress - who is often voted one of the world's most beautiful women - is confident with her appearance whenever she goes out but soon changes her mind when she sees paparazzi shots taken of her. She said: "I always assume I look better than I actually do. I'll feel pretty good about myself when I leave the house, then I'll see a picture and think, 'Crap, I had no idea that's what I was looking like.' 'The Ugly Truth' of Vibrating Underwear

3 July 2009 5:33 PM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

I now take back any defense I gave Katherine Heigl for her comments about Knocked Up. I was already on my way there when I heard about The Ugly Truth and its premise where a smart and successful woman turns to a chauvinist to learn about nabbing her beau. I hit the brink with the second trailer where she actually tries to deep throat a hot dog and stick out her chest to get the guy, while he says every pervish thing he can think of. And now ... now there's vibrating underwear.

In the clip after the jump, so appropriately coming to us from Coming Soon, Heigl's character gets a little vibrating gift as she gets ready for a date. She decides to put on the panty rocket and then gets whisked off on a half-date/half-business meeting. At no time does she decide to excuse herself to take off these things,

First Look At Eminem in Funny People

3 July 2009 12:44 AM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

Anyone who listens to Eminem.s music knows that he can be funny. His wordplay and imagery are far more cartoonish than they are gangster, but his public persona tends to display the opposite. From watching interviews and videos, it.s easy to imagine that Eminem is a stone cold brute with nothing humorous to say. Now Marshall Mathers has a cameo in Judd Apatow.s Funny People, and if it does the same for him as it did for Ryan Seacrest in Knocked Up, it will show a completely different side of the man. MTV has the first look at the rapper in the movie, and the picture doesn.t really give much away. All we learn is that Em likes what looks to be like dinner and talking with Adam Sandler. Everything else he brings to the movie is a mystery. You can check out the full size

First Look at Eminem in Judd Apatow's 'Funny People'

2 July 2009 8:31 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Confirmation of Eminem's involvement in the upcoming comedy "Funny People" has come out in form of a production still. Published by MTV, the first look at the Grammy-winning rapper's cameo sees him having a chat at a Hollywood restaurant with dying stand-up comedian George Simmons, who is played by Adam Sandler. Though the photo serves as a confirmation, it is still unclear what kind of role Eminem tackles in the feature film.

Earlier, the 36-year-old confessed to Vibe magazine that he is taking a part in the comedy movie and has just done the filming for his cameo. "I just did a cameo a few months ago with Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen in a Judd Apatow produced film. It's called Funny People," he said. "I kinda do a little cameo in that which was fun by the way. And 8 Mile was not a fun movie to shoot."

Meanwhile, in an interview with MTV,

Exclusive Judd Apatow Blog: ‘Funny People’ Director Answers Questions You Haven’t Asked

2 July 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | From MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news

by Judd Apatow

As arguably the biggest comedy director working in Hollywood today, Judd Apatow is a funny guy and almost as importantly, he’s been a longtime friend to the MTV Movies Blog, acting as one of our first guest contributors way back when “Knocked Up” was coming out. Well, the big guy is back. Apatow’s next project, of course, is “Funny People.” And lucky for us Judd’s re-joining the MTV Movies Blog gang with a series of exclusive columns hitting every single Thursday between now and the film’s release. So without further ado, here’s Judd…

Judd Apatow’s Answers to Questions You Haven’t Asked About “Funny People

Will I like “Funny People” more than any other movie I see this summer including the kick ass Star Trek?

Katherine Heigl Furthers Feminist Agenda With Ugly Truth Vibrating-Panties Sequence

1 July 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | From Movieline | See recent Movieline news

After setting the record straight to Vanity Fair about her Knocked Up experience -- pressed as she was under the cruel thumb of its Apatowian patriarchal hierarchy -- it's something of a relief to see Katherine Heigl using her newfound box office clout to forward empowering images of women in the roles she chooses. Take for example The Ugly Truth, a Columbia romantic comedy coming out later this month in which she proves a worthy foe to Spartan warrior Gerard Butler in a war of the sexes.

134 New Names Invited to Join the Academy

1 July 2009 1:08 AM, PDT | From Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

Yesterday came the yearly announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as it extended 134 invitations to several artists and executives "who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures" read the press release. Of course all of them can decline, but I wouldn't necessarily expect that to happen as all who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2009 to the Academy's roster of voting members. "These filmmakers have, over the course of their careers, captured the imagination of audiences around the world," said Academy President Sid Ganis. "It's this kind of talent and creativity that make up the Academy, and I welcome each of them to our ranks." The list follows below and reading around the best analysis I saw of it came from Nathaniel Rogers at The Film Experience who, among other things, pointed out the addition of longtime Darren Aronofsky's

Seth Rogen Could Be Road Tripping With Barbra Streisand In Film

30 June 2009 11:29 PM, PDT | From icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news

Comedian Seth Rogen and multi-award winning actress/singer Barbra Streisand might be hitting the road together. The unlikely duo could be starring together in a new comedy in the next fifteen years.

The 27-year-old "Knocked Up" star is currently developing 300,000 projects and, depending on how everything turns out, any one of them could or could not happen, and one of them is a project with the iconic Streisand.

According to an interview with Hit Fix, Rogen refers to the pairing with the "Funny Girl" as "one of the many projects I may or may not do in the next fifteen years," which probably means nothing is set in stone yet.

A Rogen road trip comedy with Streisand sounds just about right. Streisand's comedic skills are evident with her past films, including Ben Stiller's "Meet the Fockers," while Rogen already made a mini institution of his own in comedy. His film credits include "Funny People,

Could Seth Rogen be taking a road trip with... Barbra Streisand?!

30 June 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | From Hitfix.com | See recent Hitfix news

Big day for Seth Rogen.  He's one of the people invited by the Academy to join as a voting member today, along with his "40-Year-Old Virgin" and "Knocked Up" co-star Paul Rudd.  I love that many of the names on the list are people under 40 today.  That's important.  We need to get as many young Academy members in there and active as possible to help counteract the votes of the 130-year-old mummies who keep voting for things like "Driving Miss Daisy" to win Best Picture. Seth's starring role in "Funny People" this summer is impressive, and a real sign of...

Releasing my Inner Ramis: Buddhist Subtext of Year One

24 June 2009 3:52 PM, PDT | From Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news

Did you hear the one about the schizophrenic Buddhist filmmaker who thought he was at two with himself? Buddha-bing, Buddha-bang. But seriously. Ok, director/screenwriter Harold Ramis's new film, Year One, may pander to a lower common denominator, with bathroom humor, physical comedy and sight jokes targeted at young male teens. Ok, lowest. We expect nothing less from a movie produced by Judd Apatow (Superbad, Knocked Up) and starring Jack Black (Nacho Libre, Shallow Hal) and Michael Cera (Superbad, Juno). But Ramis himself drew inspiration from a much higher source. And I am not alluding here to his recent references in the press to The Two-Thousand-Year-Old Man and Life of Brian. After interviewing him for a profile that appears in the current issue of the Buddhist journal Shambhala Sun, I can say with questionable authority that Ramis is a bit of a...

Paper Heart Director Nicholas Jasenovec on Michael Cera, Charlyne Yi, and the Perils of the Sundance Spotlight

24 June 2009 1:00 PM, PDT | From Movieline | See recent Movieline news

In the upcoming comedy Paper Heart, not only do stars Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera play themselves, but director Nicholas Jasenovec casts an actor to play his own stand-in, who directs Yi on a voyage of romantic self-discovery. It's a very meta juggling act, but one that's a perfect fit for Yi, the alternative comedienne who stole scenes in Judd Apatow's Knocked Up.

As the film plays at Laff this week, I sat down with Jasenovec (pictured here, at bottom-left, with his cast) to get the lowdown on his chemistry with Yi, the behind-the-scenes incidents that changed the film, and the double-edged sword that came from the film's hyped reception this year at Sundance. And no, I didn't send an actor to play myself in the interview.
