Official Full Trailer of Werner Herzog's 'Bad Lieutenant' Arrives

8 October 2009 8:09 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

An official trailer of "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" has been released via Yahoo! Movies. The sneak peek provides a better look into Nicolas Cage's crooked cop character, Terrence McDonagh, by sharing glimpses at the event that turns him into an addict. It also features a look at other actors, including Eva Mendes and Xzibit.

Terrence McDonagh starts as a good New Orleans Police sergeant. Displaying heroism during Hurricane Katrina, he receives a medal, a promotion to lieutenant and a back injury that leads him to be addicted to prescription pain medication. While he struggles with the addictions, he finds himself involved with drug dealer Big Fate, who is suspected of murdering a family of African immigrants.

"Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" has "Rescue Dawn" helmer Werner Herzog serving as the director. Herzog insisted that this movie won't be a remake to Abel Ferrara's 1992 film of the same name, »

Werner Herzog's School Teaches Lock-Picking and Bullet-Dodging

22 September 2009 7:30 PM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Director Werner Herzog (Rescue Dawn, Grizzly Man) has announced the opening of his Rogue Film School, which is a series of several seminars scheduled to take place in various Us and international cities. If you think this is just another film school, think again. "The Rogue Film School is not for the faint-hearted," said Herzog. "It is for those who have traveled on foot, who have worked as bouncers in sex clubs or as wardens in a lunatic asylum, for those who are willing to learn about lock-picking or forging shooting permits in countries not favoring their projects." In addition to learning how to pick locks, the limited number of students will also learn about "the neutralization of bureaucracy, guerrilla tactics, and the exhilaration of being shot at unsuccessfully." That's right, you will learn how to dodge bullets. The first seminar will take place in a Los Angeles hotel on »

Greg’s 2009 Tiff Report: Day 5

17 September 2009 12:09 PM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

I was about a foot away from certain death yesterday. This is what is called a hook. Right now, one of two things is crossing your mind. 1) Oh my God! How did Greg almost die? Or 2) What idiot fucked up Greg's death? Read on to find out. It's my busiest day in Toronto as far as movies go, so I grab some coffee and head downtown. There's this very cool cafe right across where I'm staying in Toronto that makes a very decent cup of coffee. They also crank Ccr over the speakers which it makes that much more cool. I was standing in line and this dude comes up and puts his hand on my chest and says "I like your shirt." It is an awesome shirt, but I think the touching thing was kind of odd. I said thanks and ordered my coffee and that was that. Who does that? »

Tiff 2009 Must See List: Werner Herzog Double Header

4 September 2009 6:40 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

#5: Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans #6: My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done Werner Herzog films aren't exactly hard to come by - he regularly releases several in a given year - but his two features at this year's Tiff are notable for both being non-documentary works, which have been relatively scarce in Herzog's recent years. (His last was 2004's excellent Rescue Dawn. Before that, it was 2001's much-derided Invincible.)  Even stranger is that one of them is a quasi-remake of Abel Ferrara's Bad Lieutenant, a film that Herzog claims never to have seen (and whose director he claims never to have heard of). Its star is Nicolas Cage, whose recent stretch of stinkers is almost unparalleled considering some of the great work he's done in the past. The trailer, below, is frankly insane, and Variety's review [1] suggests it's in step with the film: "The film is offbeat, »

My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done? dir. Werner Herzog (trailer) (Mixed Media)

4 September 2009 4:30 AM, PDT | PopMatters | See recent PopMatters news »

Since 1987's Cobra Verde, Werner Herzog has directed just two feature films in the ensuing twenty two years -- Invincible (2001) and Rescue Dawn (2007), preferring to focus increasingly upon documentaries. It appears he made the right choice as these features were met with general indifference both critically and at the box-office, while his documentaries have garnered multiple awards and almost universal praise. However, with My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?, Herzog's interest in the fiction format appears to have been reignited, with two features completed (the other being his Bad Lieutenant reimagining) and yet another soon to begin filming. Now, for those of you who upon seeing the title card David Lynch Presents a Werner Herzog Film didn't immediately turn off the trailer and start pulling out your wallets- let me enlighten you as to why this quite possibly could be the most awesome-est thing ever! Ok, well maybe of the year. »

‘Cooking With Werner’ Herzog, Spot On Satire

12 August 2009 1:05 PM, PDT | Tubefilter.tv | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Celebrity impressions are always good for a chuckle. Rarely though are they good for much more. This one, Cooking with Werner, however, is an exception to the rule. Maybe its because the subject, German filmmaker Werner Herzog, is a such a greenfield of comedic grain ripe for harvest. You may not recognize him, but you've heard this guy— his signature droll narratives dominating his docu-films like Grizzly Man and Encounters at the End of the World. He's also helmed studio pics like Invincible and Rescue Dawn. And while the actor (Will Maier) playing Herzog is probably about thirty years his junior, his voice is spot-on. Really its a mid-1970's Herzog. It beauty is its clever parity, satirizing not only the eccentric filmmaker-poet but this whole celebrity cooking show trend that has a body count over 200 by now. The writing is well-researched, complete with references to a real life bet »

A Perfect Getaway from…Hollywood

5 August 2009 4:56 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Writer/director David Twohy is no stranger to the Hollywood system. Having toiled in it for just about 20 years now, he has become accustomed to the differences and contrasting accessibilities of large films vs. small. And since his much-hyped sci-fi epic The Chronicles Of Riddick was poorly received at the box office upon its 2004 release, he set out to follow up with something on a much smaller scale. While his new thriller, Rogue Pictures’ A Perfect Getaway, does have lush, sweeping landscapes and a cast of recognizable names, it’s very much about character as well, and its one-island setting is a great departure from the otherworldly expansiveness of Riddick.

“The original plan was to do a small movie, for me,” says Twohy, who also helmed the sci-fi sleepers The Arrival and Pitch Black. “This was sort of a reaction to big-budget, big-scale filmmaking. I wanted to do something smaller, »

Steve Zahn Fathers A Wimpy Kid

3 August 2009 10:53 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Steve Zahn is an enigma. The dude can act and if you.ve seen Rescue Dawn, you know that. Yet, he continues to take roles that expect nothing from him. If you.ve seen Strange Wilderness, then you know that as well. The flick would.ve satisfied me if all we had seen of it was the trailer (Come on. How hilarious was the laughing shark?). Watching the entire movie really ruined the experience. And it looks as though Steve plans to continue his foray into unchallenging work, as Variety reports that he has signed on to star as the father of the wimpy kid in Diary of a Wimpy Kid, an adaptation of the insanely popular youth fiction series. The movie follows a middle school aged social outcast through a single school year. As you can imagine, it doesn.t go entirely well. You can.t blame the guy »

Steve Zahn on 'Conan': Quirky or confused?

29 July 2009 11:26 AM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

God bless Steve Zahn. He's forever the best part of Tom Hanks' That Thing You Do, and his imbecilic Glenn is one reason Out if Sight is on eof the most rewatchable movies of the last 15 years. Plus, anyone who saw Rescue Dawn knows that he's more than just a grinning goofball. But then there's last night's guest appearance on The Tonight Show, which makes me wonder. Oooooohhh-kaayyyyy. Hitchhiking in a chicken suit. Talking to his farm animals. Is that just Steve being Steve? Is that the Kentucky bluegrass and bourbon? In the parlance of the interview, I'd say Conan had the patient listening skills of a horse, whereas Heidi Klum was an unamused sheep. What did you think, PopWatchers? Did you laugh at, or with, Zahn? And was that, quite possibly the worst movie clip to use as promotion of his movie? »

Memo to the Academy: Give Christian Bale an Oscar before he disappears from Earth

28 July 2009 7:39 PM, PDT | EW.com - PopWatch | See recent EW.com - PopWatch news »

Poor Christian Bale. The guy has already gone super-method on us not once, but twice -- when he  essentially starved himself for roles in The Machinist and Rescue Dawn -- but it looks like he's ditched the hamburgers and Ensure once again based on photos from the set of The Fighter, his new movie about a drug-addled boxer. Seriously, the Academy: How much weight does Bale have to lose before you finally award him an Oscar? What don't you f-king understand? Nicole Kidman only had to don a fake nose to nab the prize! But let's just go ahead and give him one before he slips through a crack on the street, 'mkay? Does Bale's repeated attempts to become emaciated for the sake of his art freak you out as much as it does me? Especially when actors like Matt Damon -- who lost 40 pounds to play a heroin addict »

Photos: Gaunt Bale and Shirtless Wahlberg from 'The Fighter'

14 July 2009 9:10 PM, PDT | CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news »

New photos have surfaced online of both Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg on the set of director David O. Russell's The Fighter.

JustJared scooped the first photos of Christian Bale, which shows the actor after losing a significant amount of weight in order to portray Dicky Eklund, whose drugs and robbery spree drew him a 10- to 15-year sentence in state prison. There, he kicked drugs, became a model prisoner and emerged as a changed man who helped his brother reach the glory that eluded him.

You can see the photo to your left.

This isn't the first time Bale has lost weight for a role. He dropped down to 120lbs for The Machinist by eating a can of tune and an apple per day and also leaned down for Rescue Dawn.

Christian Bale Loses Weight for Crack Addiction. Today in Film Bloggery 07/14/09

Not to be outdone by Megan Fox, Christian Bale was photographed on the set of David O. Russell's The Fighter yesterday looking extremely thin. And unlike Ms. Fox, Bale doesn't seem to have needed a corset (though who knows what's under that striped shirt?). First Look: Christian Bale in The Fighter

14 July 2009 8:57 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

David O. Russell's The Fighter, the project he inherited from Darren Aronofsky, just started shooting and JustJared has the first shots of co-star Christian Bale on set. Mark Wahlberg plays the boxer "Irish" Micky Ward, who hails from Lowell, Ma, where the film is shooting. Bale plays his half-brother Dicky Eklund, Ward's sometime trainer and small-time criminal. JustJared's headline (Christian Bale Looks Crack Cocaine Addicted) isn't just a dig against his look for the film; Edlund was featured in the 1995 documentary High on Crack Street and has battled drug addiction for years. I hate to think of the nutrition regimen Bale must follow to lose weight as he does for roles. We saw him slim down to an appalling degree for Brad Anderson's The Machinist and again for Werner Herzog in Rescue Dawn. Bale's one of those actors that seems able to just shed pounds like mad. He's »

Seriously, What the Hell Happened to Christian Bale?

2 July 2009 12:09 PM, PDT | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

American Psycho, The Machinist, Rescue Dawn, The Prestige - that's a pretty impressive list of credentials for a ten-year period. Any working actor today would love to play just one of those roles. Christian Bale is the man behind all four, and he's great in every one of them, each character completely different from the next.

But since his reputation for excellence began preceding him, Bale has offered up some fairly uninteresting performances, even though he continues to land characters that should give him plenty of room to showcase his talents. In the past 12 months, we've seen Bale as a pedestrian Bruce Wayne in The Dark Knight, as a hotheaded bore in Terminator Salvation, and now as G-man chasing down a consistent accent more than he is John Dillinger in Public Enemies.

So what happened? »
