Brolin & Ladd To Join 'Dallas' Cast?
25 October 2007 (WENN)
James Brolin and Diane Ladd are in negotiations to play Ewing family parents Jock and Miss Ellie in the revamped Dallas movie project. Directors and cast quit the film at the beginning of 2007, leaving signed-up star Luke Wilson to comment he felt the film adaptation of the 1980s TV soap would never be made. Wilson is reportedly still onboard, as is John Travolta, who has been cast as oil tycoon villain J.R. Ewing - and now a few more gaps are being filled, with Doctor Dolittle director Betty Thomas at the helm. According to website CinemaBlend.com, Brolin has already agreed to play the part of Jock Ewing, the role played by the late Jim Davis in the TV series. Minka Kelly is reportedly in talks to replace Jennifer Lopez as Pamela Ewing, while Julie Benz has been offered the part of J.R.'s wife Sue Ellen Ewing.

Gurinder Chadha has pulled out of directing the big screen version of 80s TV hit Dallas, to be replaced by Betty Thomas. The Brady Bunch Movie director Thomas has taken over, and plans to turn Dallas into a comedy, starring Meg Ryan as Sue Ellen. Travolta is reportedly still onboard to play oil tycoon J.R. Ewing in the film. It is not known if Wilson (Bobby Ewing) and original castmate Shirley MacLaine (Miss Ellie) are still involved. Filming is set to begin in January.

Will 'Dallas' Be Filmed in Dallas?
30 January 2007 (StudioBriefing)
The movie version of the hit 80s television series Dallas may be filmed in Dallas, after all, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported today, citing Janis Burklund, director of the Dallas Film Commission. The majority of the new Dallas film, which is due to go into full production next fall, is still set to take place in Louisiana, demonstrating what the newspaper described as "Texas's disadvantages in the growing competition to attract movie productions." (The state's tax incentives don't compare favorably with those of Louisiana's.) But Burklund said that "executives behind the film" are reworking some elements so that at least part of the film can be shot in Texas and that it is possible that the entire film could be shot in the state if the legislature passes a more attractive incentive bill before the fall.

Will 'Dallas' Be Filmed in Dallas?
9 March 2006 (StudioBriefing)
Officials in Dallas have expressed concern that the state's lack of tax incentives for movie productions may result in filmmakers going elsewhere to film the upcoming Dallas ... the Movie, based on the TV hit of the '80s. In an interview with Dallas station KTVT, Mayor Laura Miller said, "We've met with the producer in L.A., and he's come to Dallas and they've driven around, and they know that this would be a great place to film. But the harsh reality is that Canada and Louisiana and other places offer cash incentives to get people to make movies there and we don't." Added Janis Burlund of the Dallas Film Commission: "There's more at stake then just money. Of course, there's the money to our economy, there's the jobs, but there's also a sense of civic pride and also a bit of a bruised ego and a black eye if we can't land the Dallas movie in Dallas."
