This week's episode of The Venture Bros. wasn't as heavy on the laughs as the last couple weeks, but it came in extra strong on the character development. And hey, how can you not love any episode that centers around the Monarch and his henchmen?
During the episode, Henchmen 21 kidnaps Hank and Dean, and immediately Sgt Hatred and Dr. Venture assume the Monarch is behind it. They return to Hatred's old neighborhood, Malice, where they run into his ex-wife. You can read all about it in our "Return to Malice" recap.
Now for some of our favorite parts of the episode:
Henchman 21's backstory from after 24's death to the present, only then releazing it was his cowardice that was responsible. Someone finally revealing why the Monarch is in charge... only he has enough hate We love the concept of Malice and are so glad to return to it! Hehe, »

(S04E04) It's enough to make you stop believing when tears come fast and furious, in a town called Malice. Yeah. I totally just made that up. Right now. Free words of wisdom, from me to you.
This episode wasn't spectacular for the purposes of laughing-out-loud. It was funny in a few moments, yes, but I spent most of the twenty-some minutes resting my chin on my fist, brow furrowed with concern. All the characters are going through some heavy stuff right now, and that inner turmoil, dealing with loss and identity and love, came bubbling to the surface in this episode. Doing so, again, isn't much of a gut-buster, but it makes for beautiful character development. Can you tell I have faith in this show? Maybe a little too much.

This week's episode of The Venture Bros. had slightly more back story than last week's, but was still an episode presented purely for entertainment.
So far we love where season four is going. This episode had plenty of throwbacks, including the obnoxious possible illegitimate son of Brock, Dermott, while slowly revealing more about the Venture universe. Season three was a little too heavy on backstory without all the entertainment this season has brought.
Unfortunately, we had another episode with almost no Brock, but Sgt. Hatred has done as good of a job as anyone could with such enormous shoes to fill. This episode Brock was featured in a cool flashback, but didn't even say a word.
Our favorite part of this episode were the seemingly unrelated plotlines all come together and exploding in the end. Plus we love any episode that involves the cops or any other normal part of »

(S04E03) I swear to you, dear reader, that I do my best to stay somewhat objective when reviewing The Venture Bros. It's tough, though, when the writers keep knocking them out of the park like this. We're only a few episodes in, but I'm already enjoying things more than I did with season three, and it's not just because this episode had mind-blowing prog rock and Ups guys with the Shining.

After last week's heavy story line-based plot of last week, we were treated to just a fun half hour of pure awesomness on last night's episode of The Venture Bros. We saw the return of The Monarch as he held Hank and Dean for ransom. Now without their safety net(s) of clones and Brock, Venture actually had to entertain this loon!
The episode really got amazing when Captain Sunshine, voiced by cartoon Batman himself, Kevin Conroy, broke into the cocoon and stole Hank from the Monarch. Apparently he's had a grudge with the Monarch since he killed his previous ward, Wonder Boy.
Catch up with the details of the episode in our "Handsome Ransom" recap. Now sit back and let us tell you why we thought this episode was so awesome:
The Monarch is back! He's easily the most entertaining character of any show Dr. Girlfriend proved her Doctor »

(S04E02) First things first. If you are not a connoisseur of '90s superhero cartoons or a huge nerd that has been closely following Venture Bros. news all the way through production, you may have missed out on the full "Handsome Ransom" experience. That is not to say the unaware couldn't have a good time, but things were made ten times funnier if a viewer knew that the not-so-pure Captain Sunshine was voiced by Kevin Conroy, aka Batman.

You should've seen me Sunday night, around 12:30 Am. I was in a little motel room in Hollywood, eagerly waiting for the Season 4 premiere of The Venture Bros. I had a 6 Am flight back to San Francisco, meaning I had to be up at 4 to have enough time to get to Lax, but I didn't care—there's no way I'm missing a new episode of the best animated show currently on TV. So imagine my rage when, like many others in the West Coast, I witnessed Adult Swim's bungling of the feed, which erroneously aired the first half of the episode twice and never showed the second half.
Honestly, I thought it was intentional at first. The episode copied Memento's gimmick in having one narrative in chronological order and another in reverse, so I felt justified in assuming that the repeat of the opening is just another non-linear device. I »

The Venture Bros. debuted on Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network back in 2003 with its pilot, "The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay." Almost a year and a half later, the show debuted with its incredible first season.
When you go back and watch the first season, as we've done way too many times, it's impressive just how much of the Venture universe the creators had already penned out and alluded to that early.
The first season was also responsible for some of the funniest moments in the series history. We've compiled the ultimate collection of Venture Brothers quotes from the first season.
Here's a highlight of some of our favorites:
Mexican University Administrator: ...your check, Dr. Venture. Muchas gracias.
Dr. Venture: Super good! Very generous of y-oh, pesos. Great. These zeros are all meaningless | permalink Summers: True, I was barely alive after my test ship broke up. But the Army saved me. »

Cult indie filmmaker Lisa Hammer (Pox, The Venture Brothers) has a new feature film! The new James Merendino/Lisa Hammer feature The Invisible Life Of Thomas Lynch is screening at the Cmj Film Festival this Thursday in NYC!
The Invisible Life of Thomas Lynch is a dark comedy about a lonely smalltime hit man. Shot documentary style, the film reveals a pathetically empty and misguided man and the callousness of the film makers who just want to get the shots, unmoved by torture and murder. The contradiction between personal life and job, and the apathy of the people making the documentary reflects satirically the dispassion of the media. Directed by James Merendino (Slc Punk, Magicians) and Lisa Hammer (The Venture Brothers, Mors Syphilitica) Starring: Steve Stanulis as Thomas Lynch, James Merendino as himself, Lisa Hammer as herself, Levi Wilson as himself, Andrew Langton as Frank Ritchie, Christiane Seidel as Tina, »

Returning to Adult Swim’s Sunday night line-up for what promises to be an explosive fourth season, The Venture Bros., chronicles the escapades of the titular goofy teen brothers, Dean and Hank; their neurotic scientist father, Dr. Thaddeus Venture; their mullet-sporting bodyguard, Brock Sampson; arch-nemesis, The Monarch; and The Monarch’s wife, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch (formerly Dr. Girlfriend). What began as a clever riff on Johnny Quest and the superhero genre has evolved into an engrossing series with a tangled and hilarious mythology. Over the past three years The Venture Bros. has distinguished itself from Adult Swim’s other droll animated fare, but for those who have yet to fully pledge allegiance to Team Venture (or for the more dastardly of you, The Guild of Calamitous Intent), here are five reasons why you should watch the fourth season of The Venture Bros., the most exciting show ever (to air during a 12:00 Am - 12:30 Am »

Now that's what I call a season premiere! The Venture Bros. came back with style last night as the major storylines were told out of chronological order.
At the Venture compound, Nazis kidnapped Dr. Venture, while Hank and Dean tried to adjust to life with their new bodyguard, Sgt Hatred, who, combined with Dr. Orpheus eventually helped the boys rescue their father.
Meanwhile, we meet up with Brock Samson shortly after the explosion of the Monarch mobile and we see his transition from being saved by Osi to becoming a member of an organization known as Sphinx.
You can catch up with the complete events of the episode in correct chronological order in our "Blood of the Father, Heart of Steel" recap.
Along the way we were treated to almost all the aspects that makes The Venture Bros. so amazing, well except for maybe the Monarch. Definitely could have gone »

(S04E01) Is it going too far calling Venture Bros. the Lost of animated shows? Because, especially when one compares it to other programs in the [adult swim] line-up, it definitely is. While shows like Robot Chicken are custom-tailored for short attention spans (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), Vb does a beautiful job of rewarding the loyal who take time to learn and love the show.
You know how else it's also kind of like Lost? It's really damn confusing sometimes. It wasn't until the very end of the premiere, when bits of my brain were coming out my ears, that I finally managed to put most of the story together in my head, though I knew I would have to watch it at least once to more to seriously understand. I see what you did there, Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick. Real sneaky.

It was mentioned a few months ago that some of the folks behind Robot Chicken (including Seth Green) are making a new Adult Swim series called Titan Maximum, which is basically a Voltron parody. I didn't realize when I first heard of this project that there was also a little Thunderbirds in the mix as well. And quite probably some Team America: World Police.
It's too early to tell, but based on the preview, the show certainly looks funny. Unlike Robot Chicken, this show will likely have things like plots and regular characters (the nerd kid from Robot Chicken doesn't count). In that sense, it's more a parody in the vein of The Venture Brothers.Continue reading We got your Titan Maximum right here

Adult Swim has put a three and a half minute promotional video for The Venture Bros. Season 4 on their site. To save you folks a click, I've embedded it here at the end of the article.
The intro goes immediately into silliness, noting various significances of the number four, most of which are completely ludicrous. In the preview, Hank is sporting a different haircut, and I have no idea what's happening with Dean. He seems to be bonding with his father, among other strange misfortunes.
Brock is only in a quick clip with a shaven head without a clue as to what's happened to him since he quit his bodyguard position. The Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend only appear in a brief segment, as well. It's weird to see 21 without his henchman outfit.Continue reading The Venture Bros. Season four promo
