MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS
This is a story about a train that carries pine trees into the city that wind up in everybody's living rooms at Christmas. But the story is also about two cheeky cubs: Buttons, a bear, and Rusty, a fox. The ranger of the forest is Ranger Jones, a.k.a Jonsey.
Jonsey tells the cubs about Christmas and Santa Claus. He even shows them some toys. A jack-in-the-box scares them off. They run into the forest, then hide in what they think is a barn. It turns out to be a boxcar, aboard the Christmas Tree Train! En route to the big city, an owl who was also tricked by the appearance of the boxcar, tells them about the city.
Back in the woods, Buttons and Rusty's parents worry about them very much; the kids are exploring the city leisurely, meet up with a snow-plow and fall into the sewer. They're also mistaken for toys at a department store. They even put on a song and dance show in the display window. An employee of the store who dresses as Santa, and in secret, actually is Santa Claus, get's a phone call from Jonsey and takes Buttons and Rusty home. Everyone is overjoyed to get the cubs back and then Santa takes off with his sleigh and eight reindeer.
I watch this every Christmas. It's rather enjoyable. I recommend it. See it whenever you can. You'll like it.
