“Mama’s Boy” Jason Momoa Talks ‘Conan’

10 March 2010 4:09 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

You heard it here first folks, Conan the Barbarian used to get stuffed into lockers. Okay, okay, I’m joking, but Jason Momoa, the actor who will be playing the legendary warrior in Marcus Nispel’s 2011 film, did get his fair share of bullying when he was younger.

In a wide-ranging interview with the Des Moines Register, Momoa talks about his experiences growing up as a “little hippy kid from Iowa,”  his introduction to Hollywood as a cast member of Baywatch, and his thoughts on taking up the legendary mantle of Arnold Schwarzenegger to play the mighty Conan.

While the article is chock full of interesting details about Momoa’s life (enough to make even the most ardent Momoa-haters sort of like the guy), we here at Screen Rant are most interested in details on Conan’s progress. To this end, the article featured a number of interesting new nuggets to pore over. »

Jason Momoa Says His 'Conan' Will Be Based On Robert E. Howard's Original Novels

8 March 2010 7:31 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Later on this month, former "Stargate Atlantis" star Jason Momoa will begin filming his part as the title character in director Marcus Nispel's new "Conan" film, which is based on the popular barbarian warrior created by Robert E. Howard.

And while Arnold Schwarzenegger's turn as Conan in “Conan the Barbarian” and “Conan the Destroyer” has defined the character in popular culture since 1982, Momoa's Conan will skew more towards the rogue adventurer found in Howard's original novels.

“At the time, ['Conan the Barbarian'] was amazing… It’s got a little ’80s vibe to it,” said Momoa during an interview with the Des Moines Register. “I did more research with the books (than the movies), to tell you the truth.”

The article also stated that Momoa is training for his role in "Conan" with stunt performer David Leitch (“The Bourne Ultimatum”) and Chad Stahelski, the martial arts stunt coordinator for “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions. »

Presenting Award, Jada Pinkett Smith Bursts Into Tears Over Father's Death

5 March 2010 10:00 PM, PST | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

Jada Pinkett Smith broke down in tears at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon on Thursday, March 4 after revealing she is mourning the death of her father. "The Matrix Reloaded" star was presenting the Power Award to her pal, rapper/actress Queen Latifah, when she struggled to hold back her emotions as she told the star-studded audience about the passing of her dad, construction boss Robsol Pinkett, Jr., who had died after suffering a heart attack last week.

Honoring Latifah, she told the crowd, "My father died last week, and I'm flying tomorrow to bury him. But I wanted to come because when those types of losses happen, a lot of things get illuminated and your priorities fall in line. When I think about Latifah I think about a woman who makes me feel loved. She can sit in the throne of my soul and just be there with me. »

Jada Pinkett Smith broke down in tears at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon on Thursday after revealing she is mourning the death of her father.

The Matrix Reloaded star was presenting the Power Award to her pal, rapper/actress Queen Latifah, when she struggled to hold back her emotions as she told the star-studded audience about the passing of her dad, construction boss Robsol Pinkett, Jr., who had died after suffering a heart attack last week (ends26Feb10).

Honouring Latifah, she told the crowd, "My father died last week, and I'm flying tomorrow to bury him. But I wanted to come because when those types of losses happen, a lot of things get illuminated and your priorities fall in line.

"When I think about Latifah I think about a woman who makes me feel loved. She can sit in the throne of my soul and just be there with me. She makes me laugh."

The actress was unable to fight back the waterworks and had to pause her speech as she cried - prompting Latifah to step up onstage to comfort her.

Pinkett Smith added, "This is what I'm talking about. I don't see her a lot, but she's my girl."

The third annual event, which celebrates black women in entertainment, also saw Zoe Saldana presented with the Rising Star award by her Avatar director James Cameron, and Gabourey Sidibe was honoured for her role in Oscar-nominated movie Precious. »

Super Bowl Movie Ads: Which Ones Are Most Memorable?

7 February 2010 2:40 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Super Bowl Sunday has come to be known as a holiday for football fans, but it’s also a memorable time for movie buffs. Over the last few decades, it’s no secret that million-dollar ads have nearly eclipsed the game itself, but high-profile film commercials are a relatively new phenomenon that has erupted over the last decade or so. With that in mind, and as we look forward to Sunday’s blockbusters, here are some flicks that unveiled crucial footage at Super Bowls past:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” (2009)

Last year’s biggest ad , a Variety survey showed that 83% of the people polled remembered seeing the trailer during Super Bowl – the most of any of the movie ads, which is unsurprising since it then went on to gross the most of any of the films advertised. Ultimately, the proof of that advertising power was in the pudding as the »

Top 10 "Oh, Come On!" Moments in Sci-Fi Movies

7 January 2010 4:27 AM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

Any science-fiction movie is predicated at least a little on the suspension of disbelief. But then there are points where what we're presented with so defies logic, physics, or natural human behavior that the mind rebels. At that point, the credibility of an entire movie can be at risk.

For example, early in the new, sci-fi/vampires-rule-the-world flick Daybreakers, Ethan Hawke enters the world headquarters of the international corporation that is the sole, global supplier of human blood. He steps out of an elevator and beholds before him a vast, seemingly limitless atrium, stacked row upon row with stainless steel racks containing human bodies being "milked" for their blood.

Think about that for a second. Think about where that harvest is taking place. Imagine going into McDonald's world headquarters and finding that, just as you step past reception, you're confronted with a fully operational slaughterhouse and hamburger processing plant. Does that make sense? »
