A few days ago Variety reported (you kind of have to mine for it in the article) that veteran editors Mark Goldblatt and Walter Murch were being brought in to recut The Wolfman, even though the release date is only a few months away, on February 12, 2010. This could be a very bad thing for the film, culminating in what has already been a tumultuous creation process, but it could be a good thing. Films can often be made in the editing room, and both editors have had extensive experience. Goldblatt has edited such films as Terminator 2 and Pearl Harbor, while Murch worked on The English Patient and Cold Mountain, winning an Oscar for sound editing in Apocalypse Now. The point is, I hope that the film has a chance to succeed because it still looks very cool. The featurette below has some behind the scenes footage and interviews, which increases my excitement for the film. »

Universal's upcoming The Wolfman re-imagining has been bogged down for the past three years by countless production setbacks, constantly changing release dates, a new director, and most recently the loss of their composer Danny Elfman. What else could happen with Wolfman that hasn't already happened? They could bring in two new editors, that's what. The relentless news excavators over at /film dug up this news out of the gutter of a Variety article not even about the movie. It looks like Mark Goldblatt, action editor extraordinaire, and Walter Murch, the man who literally wrote the book on editing, will come on to Joe Johnston's movie and try to clean it up a bit. A Goldblatt/Murch pairing is certainly an interesting one, with Goldblatt working such action pieces as Armageddon, Bad Boys 1 & 2, and both Terminator films, and Murch handling slightly more dramatic pieces like Cold Mountain and The English Patient. »

Of all the big films on the docket for next year, the one I’m most concerned about is The Wolfman. The second trailer for the film looked pretty badass, I’ll admit – but this movie has suffered a plagued production from the get-go. A change in directors, callbacks for reshoots and re-designs in the creature effects… It all points to a studio trying to turn lead into gold through the usual movie alchemy.
Well, the guys over at Slash Film must have magnifying glass eyes, because they spotted something deep-six buried in an article over at Variety, which names editors Mark Goldblatt and Walter Murch as the two guys hired to do a recut of The Wolfman!
This revelation comes without the usual fanfare from the blogosphere that goes with every little development on a major movie – suggesting that the studio is trying to keep the continuing problems with »

We've written and you have commented about Fox Searchlight's mysterious year of failures. Normally at this time, the baby studio has set itself up for a great Oscar run (or two), but outside of (500) Days of Summer, which figures to only make hay in the screenplay category, Searchlight has whiffed a lot this year. The studio announced maybe ten days ago that its sleeper this season will be Crazy Heart starring Jeff Bridges, kind of a modernized Tender Mercies, which won Robert Duvall an Academy Award. With any movie about music, I always gravitate to that section of the credits that deals with the musical score and soundtrack. In this case, the score is by O Brother composer and soundtrack producer T-Bone Burnett and a guy named Stephen Bruton. Bruton was a fixture in Austin and throughout the Texas music scene for about 40 years. »

Alexa from Pop Elegantiarum here. Like a lot of women, I have a love-hate relationship with Barbie. In her current incarnation, she is a stripper image of femininity that, in addition to being a bad role model for girls, is just, well, tasteless. But then I'll see a retro Barbie from the 60s and I flip for her exaggerated glamour. In the spirit of the latter, I wanted to share these repainted dolls by Noel Cruz. Noel takes your average fashion doll, like Barbie, removes the factory paint, and repaints the features. After a wardrobe change, the dolls are reborn as some favorite film characters, like this Miranda Priestly doll. Love the wardrobe, and how he managed to capture the essence of Meryl Streep's features (albeit in a streamlined Barbie way).
And he has a slew of actressy dolls too, like this dreamy Nicole Kidman. I could bore my »

Robert Pattinson, it has just been announced, will be joined by none other than Cold Mountain and Australia beauty Nicole Kidman for his upcoming film Bel Ami. Pattinson, you know, will be taking the lead in the book-to-film translation of Guy de Maupassant's novel by the same name. Ditching the Edward Cullen swagger and charm from The Twilight Saga: New Moon and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse for a more bedding provocateur role in Bel Ami, Pattinson will begin filming the movie in February, 2010. Presumably this will take place once his Allen Coulter film Remember Me debuts in theaters (February 12, 2010). Read more a ... »

Contrary to what has been suggested earlier, Renee Zellweger won't be packing up pounds any time soon for "Bridget Jones 3". At Elle magazine's Women in Hollywood event, the 40-year-old actress set the record straight, telling Marc Malkin of E! she hasn't signed on to do another portrayal of thirty-something Bridget Jones.
"I get asked every single day, and I don't know anything," the actress who earned her two Academy Award nods from the role confessed. "It's a rumor." On the report suggesting she will be wearing fat suit instead of gaining the actual pounds this time around, the Ruby Thewes of "Cold Mountain" responded simply, "Oh, goody! When are we having the fitting?"
Presented with the idea of portraying the character in a possible stage musical, Zellweger had this to say, "I haven't been asked, [but] I think that would be weird. Do you think that would be weird?" When her »

Renee Zellweger insists turning 40 hasn't affected her career. The 'Cold Mountain' star - who celebrated the landmark birthday in April - believes her quirky appearance will always land her roles, regardless of her age. Asked if she had noticed more exciting parts drying up, she said: "It's so hard to comment because I don't see it. I don't know. I'm so spoiled with respect to the experiences I've had and the opportunities I've had that I don't see it. "I've never been that girl who is dependant on how fabulous my hair is or my stature or that I look good in order to work. So I don't really think about it in those terms." The actress »

Mark Rendall, Renee Zellweger and Logan Lerman in My One and Only
Photo: Freestyle Releasing I guess I shouldn't be too surprised there is a mild bit of Oscar buzz surrounding Renee Zellweger and her performance in My One and Only, especially since it now seems as if every performance Zellweger gives is going to be no different than the last. She's been nominated before for doing the same thing, why not this time? Right? Of course, this is hardly a ringing endorsement, but I will admit My One and Only isn't the cliched tedium I expected it to be based on the film's generic trailer. Instead, it has several sweet family moments and an ending I really thought pulled things together nicely. As for Zellweger, she's perfectly fine, but she has done little to really impress me since Cold Mountain in 2003 and of course Chicago one year earlier. However, »

As she plans to pile on the pounds and polish off her English accent to play Bridget Jones for the third time, we take a look at the life and career of Case 39 actress Renée Zellweger. Most people are well aware of Renée's best supporting actress Oscar for Cold Mountain and her romances with Jim Carrey and Jack White, but read on to find out some lesser-known facts about the star. 1. Renée Kathleen Zellweger was born to a mechanical engineer father from Switzerland and a Norwegian-born midwife mother on April 25, 1969 in Katy, Texas. 2. As an 18-year-old, Renée worked as a cocktail waitress at Sugar's Go-Go lapdancing club in Austin. Bar manager Howard Lenett later said: "Renée could act like a blonde bimbo at the drop of a hat and turn on the charm to get big tips out of the male customers. Like any other beautiful woman who's (more »

Problem: Renee Zellweger has not been in anything like a hit live-action film since 2005 2003's Cold Mountain, for which she won an Oscar. Solution? Bridget Jones 3. Two years ago, Zellweger acknowledged the danger in the yo-yo dieting mandated by her iconic role: 'I had a panic attack with all the specialists talking about how bad this is for you long-term, putting on that much weight in short periods of time,' she said. 'The health professionals were warning me about not continuing the project any further." Priorities, etc. ... »

That Bradley Cooper certainly gets around. Last weekend he was in Paris, where he fended off rumors about a possible relationship with Jennifer Aniston after they were seen together in New York. Then, Tuesday night on Manhattan's Upper East Side, the Hangover star, 34, was seen with Renée Zellweger, 40, at the Italian restaurant Antonucci. "She didn't really eat much, but he ate," someone in the restaurant told People, adding that the two looked like they were on a date. "They were very flirty. Either he's being very gentlemanly, 'cause that's the way he is, or they're dating. He paid. He pulled out her chair, »
