'Se7en' Writer And Director Reteaming

1 hour ago | Screenrush | See recent Screenrush news »

David Fincher may have already had Alien 3 on his resumé when he directed the runaway hit Se7en but there is no doubt that the Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman starring thriller put him on the map, and so it will come as good news to those who have watched his career patchily develop that he is currently attached to direct an Andrew Kevin Walker adaptation of the 1975 Max Ehrlich novel (and film) The Reincarnation Of Peter Proud.

The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog has it that the adaptation will contemporize the supernatural-thriller about a college professor who starts to have visions and nightmares of a past life.

Fincher, who is just about to start shooting the Aaron Sorkin scripted The Social Network, will produce the remake alongside Se7en producer Michael De Luca reforming a powerful trinity that put together one of the best and most haunting films of the 90s. »

Reincarnation or Remake? Fincher Helmed Peter Proud Redux on the Way

3 hours ago | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Here's one we didn't see coming. The Reincarnation of Peter Proud isn't exactly what you would call an A-list movie getting the remake treatment, however there's some big time A-list talent behind this retelling.

According to The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision Blog the makers of Seven are teaming to reincarnate The Reincarnation of Peter Proud for Columbia.

David Fincher is attached to direct the new adaptation of the Max Ehrlich novel, which will be penned by Andrew Kevin Walker. Fincher will produce with Michael De Luca.

The film centers on a college professor who begins having recurring dreams and nightmares and, realizing they are images of a past life, decides to search out the source of the visions. With his girlfriend in tow, he discovers a woman and her grown-up daughter who are keys to his past life.

More as it comes.

David Fincher reincarnates 'Peter Proud'

4 hours ago | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

David Fincher directing a full-on horror film? Sign me up now. David Fincher reuniting with the screenwriter of "Se7en" to update a flawed but fascinating '70s relic? I'm sooooo onboard. In fact, there's nothing about the news that David Fincher is considering directing a new version of "The Reincarnation Of Peter Proud" that is anything less than exciting to me.  Fincher gives good creepy.  Fact. Sure, it's another remake, and I'm as weary of those as everyone else, but this isn't just some hack knocking out yet another '80s slasher update because he's convinced there's a market for it.  Fincher is... »

David Fincher Helming a 'Reincarnation of Peter Proud' Adaptation

5 hours ago | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

I'll be honest and admit that only within the past month did I have the exquisite joy of finally seeing David Fincher's film Se7en for the first time. It was just one of those embarrassing films that I hadn't ever taken the time to see. But having been blown away by it, my excitement is now off the charts as THR's Heat Vision reports that the trio (director, writer, producer) behind the twisted serial killer thriller is reuniting for an adaptation of Max Ehrlich's novel The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. Fincher will be directing from a script by Andrew Kevin Walker (of The Wolfman recently) and producing with Michael De Luca again. Back in 1975 Ehrlich wrote an adaptation of his own book with J. Lee Thompson directing Michael Sarrazin and Margot Kidder in the film. The story centers on a college professor who begins having recurring dreams and nightmares and, »

The Reincarnation Of David Fincher

6 hours ago | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

David Fincher's next gig, following Facebook app The Social Network which he's just started shooting, looks set to be The Reincarnation of Peter Proud. It'll re-team the director with Seven's writer Andrew Kevin Walker, who will adapt the novel by Max Ehrlich. The 35-year-old supernatural thriller involves a university lecturer's attempts to prove he's the reincarnation of somebody who died shortly before he was born, and to solve the mystery of his murder, for which the killer was never caught. It was filmed once before: a 1975 Bing Crosby production by J Lee Thompson, starring Margot Kidder and Michael Sarrazin, and adapted by Ehrlich himself. We all know David Fincher's stellar trajectory from Alien 3 to Benjamin Button, but Walker's path has been rockier. He followed Seven with the dodgy 8mm (heavily rewritten by Joel Schumacher) and Tim Burton's awesome Sleepy Hollow, but then, through uncredited rewrites »

DVD Playhouse—November 2009

By

Allen Gardner

Watchmen—The Ultimate Cut (Warner Bros.) Director Zack Snyder’s film of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark graphic novel is as worthy an adaptation of a great book that has ever been filmed. In an alternative version of the year 1985, Richard Nixon is serving his third term as President and super heroes have been outlawed by a congressional act, in spite of the fact that two of the most high-profile “masks,” Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War. When The Comedian is found murdered, many former heroes become concerned that a conspiracy is afoot to assassinate retired costumed crime fighters. Former masks Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) and still-operating Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley, in an Oscar-worthy turn) launch an investigation of their own, all while the Pentagon’s “Doomsday »

David Fincher Directing Adaptation of The Reincarnation of Peter Proud

8 hours ago | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Assuming David Fincher survives the Herculean task of retelling the epic tale of Facebook in The Social Network, it seems that his next project will bring him back to familiar territory. We've learned that Fincher has signed on to adapt The Reincarnation of Peter Proud alongside screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker, who also wrote Fincher's Seven. The novel by Max Ehrlich was already adapted back in 1975, with a screenplay written by Ehrlich himself. Fincher's adaptation will use the novel as its source, while also modernizing the story. According to THR: 'Proud' centers on a college professor who begins having recurring dreams and nightmares and, realizing they are images of a past life, decides to search out the source of the visions. With his girlfriend in tow, he discovers a woman and her grown-up daughter who are keys to his past life. The concept certainly sounds like familiar Fincher territory, »

The Men Who Stare At Goats Review

6 November 2009 6:52 PM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

Seven out of ten times, I’m going to come out enjoying a film that operates on its own terms. It’s the first and best thing I can say about Michael Mann, which just adds to my fanboy nature when it comes to his work. As a more recent example, the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man just acts as its own entity from beginning to end, and never makes any apologies for it. While not as brilliant or as great as that picture, The Men Who Stare at Goats is that kid we all knew in high school. You’re not really sure who he is or what he’s about, but you know that when you spend time with him, you’re going to be entertained.

So why won’t this appeal to the masses? Very simply because of the script, which goes off the rails midway through the picture. »

Warren Ellis' 'Black Summer' Series Tagged For Adaptation

2 November 2009 1:31 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Vigilante Entertainment has optioned Warren Ellis and Juan Jose Ryp’s comic book series “Black Summer” with Ryne Pearson ("Knowing") onboard to adapt the script.

Originally published in 2007 as a seven issue miniseries by Avatar Press, “Black Summer” chronicles the rise and fall of a superhero team called the Seven Guns—composed of scientist-adventurers who modified their bodies to gain powers—in the wake of one member's decision to kill the President of the United States and create a better government.

According to Variety, Vigilante Entertainment is a new company formed by Hicham Benkirane, the former head of audiovisual development at French comic book publisher Humanoids.

Despite leaving Humanoids, Benkirane has retained the film rights to a few of the titles he developed there—including "The Book of Jack" and "Fragile"—while also pursing other projects to adapt.

This latest deal continues to cement Ellis’ status as a rising star in Hollywood. »

Vigilante Entertainment Preps for Black Summer

2 November 2009 5:52 AM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

There’s a new comic book-to-film production house working on bringing some lesser known properties to the screen: Vigilante Entertainment, headed up by Hicham Benkirane, formerly in charge of the brilliantly titled Les Humanoides Associes.

While Vigilante has rights to many Les Humanoides Associes properties such as Miss: Better Living Through Crime, The Book of Jack and Fragile (a zombie love story), the first project they’re setting their sights on is an adaptation of Warren Ellis’ Black Summer. Ellis was also responsible for Red, which is going into production over at Summit Films with Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman. According to Variety, the plot of Summer is pretty sweet:

“[Black Summer centers on] superhero team the Seven Guns, a group of scientist-adventurers who modified their own bodies for street-fighting in order to take back their West Coast city from a corrupt police force, criminal local government and rapacious private security forces.”

Welcome to the fourth installment in Screen Rant’s Halloween lead-up series called “Horror Plus” – a feature which showcases one film, dipped into the stapled-flavor of another genre to create something unique, something all its own.

Be sure to go back and review our first, second, and third installments in the series: Horror Plus Comedy: Shaun of the Dead, Horror Plus Sci-Fi: Alien, and Horror Plus Thriller: 28 Days Later. Also look for more that we hope to put up for you to read as we soon arrive at the end of October, 2009!

While we might consider “Crime” to actually be a piece of the horror genre as a matter of course, it’s important to remember many films feature something altogether different when it comes to “crime.” In this case we’re referring to the more procedural aspects of “Crime” and the movie we’ll be focusing on, that dips »
