In episode 2.16 "The Show Where Sam Shows Up", Sam doesn't get married and informs us that: Woody and Kelly have a (smart) kid and that Rebecca returned to the bar after her plumber husband (Tom Berenger) left her. In episode 6.13 "The Show Where Woody Shows Up" Woody's in town for his cousins' wedding and informs us that: he has two kids (a boy and a girl) and that Cliff's European wife ran off back to Bosnia after two days of marriage.

No. The cane was just a prop. This is shown in the episode "The Return of Martin Crane" of season 9. Which features a flashback from before he got injured.
