When a man says in confessional he knows Father Morrissey has 'sinned', the priest takes a gun from a hollowed Bible, drives his car over him but finds the envelop he looks for gone, stolen seconds earlier by a girl. Father Morrissey even fakes stomach pain to be admitted in the same L.A. hospital, Community General, so he can administer a fatal injection, surprised only by bag lady Alice, who was just admitted for amnesia, however possibly still somewhat treatable. The physician in charge, Dr. Mark Sloane, smells a rat after Morrissey discharges himself and goes talk to Father Morrissey, coincidentally the parish priest of hospital administrator Norman Briggs. Sloane's son, LAPD Detective Steve Sloane, still only worries about his hair perhaps falling out, but the autopsy by Amanda Bentley-Livingston allows her witnessing friend, senior resident Dr. Jack Stewart, to trace a dragon tattoo to the Cobras, a gang of convicts a cousin of his belongs to... |

Mark was eager take some vacation -Steve wasn't holding his breath to go fishing together as promised since long, and has a hellish time alone- for a change when Norman made an awful fuzz about security for mob-threatened senate transport committee chairman Basset, who is getting an operation in Community General, but a woman in league with another assassin stages getting major amnesia including her identity after a provoked car hit he stops for, brings her in and stays. When nurse Sue Marlowe recognizes 'Jane Doe', she gives the nurse a fatal push down a staircase and stages finding Sue's corps. Amanda was already suspicious, Mark finds the car hit probably was staged, while Jack is rather charmed. The Briggs-FBI security system proves cumbersome, but not for Jane's accomplice who smuggles in a detachable gun inside crutches; Mark notices he's not really limping but he gets away after passing the armed crutch. Mark looks into Jane Doe's identity and nurse Marlowe's suspicious fall, gets to the mob link but is recognized and captured, while Jack realizes Jane only kissed him to get his security badge... |

Since the hospital board decided that the ER is to shut down unless $100,000 is raised, Norman decides to mount a telethon guaranteeing the full sum, soon leaves a while for a seminar and meanwhile puts Mark in charge, who is relieved Jack kind of enjoys being the stage manager. Main star Buddy Blake, a faded TV comedy legend, comes with his son Michael Blake, who gave up medical studies (with Mark) to be his assistant and is final true with the ingrate's abuse, even in public. While Mark is presenting the show, Buddy stumbles on scene with a fatal knife his back; to the Sloans' horror Michael is arrested as prime suspect, bloody hands and last person seen in dad's dressing room. Mark arrives only to be hit by his electric wheelchair crashing down the mansion's staircase, and lands in back spasm-traction himself, but tells Steve Jonathan looked dead already. Mark thinks of remote control and hopes to sleuth by remote Jack after briefing him about the family's closet full of 'skeletons' giving each kid a motive, while neither has a solid alibi: Dr. Julian Nash lost his medical license and was denied a private clinic, inventor J. Longtime patient and friend Dale Harlan stumbles into ER and tells Mark to get something from his left shoe- it's a lottery ticket he gives Mark 'to do some good with it' before he dies from his shot-wound. Amanda finds out it won $13,000,000 but fails to keep it a secret. Hospital administrator Norman Briggs, who just gave Mark hell for using surgical gloves to relax child patients, desperately needs $6,200,000 for a new hospital wing he promised to name after Mr. Wainwright, the chairman of the board. The LAPD charges Jimmy Stevens with the murder, being found with Harlan's wallet and the murder weapon, but Jack knows the teenager as a harmless small thief, so he and Mark believe his claim to have found Harlan, and soon drawn in suspects. At Harlan's funeral, Dale's widow Monica and his gambling mentor Dr. Larry Wright -a dentist, Amanda infiltrates as his temporary secretary- both claim the lottery ticket to settle debts and promises, but Mark stands firm on the deceased's charity dying wish. Her manager brings her, almost identically looking back-up singer Claire and drummer Cinnamon to Community General for a check-up, but no harm is found. Shanda tells Dr. Mark Sloan she has a stalker since months, the police can't do anything without any physical threat; a truck tries to run them over the next minute, her fan Dr. Jack Stewart finds no actual fractures. Steve is incredulous, given Shanda's publicity stunt record, but Mark takes her in his home; Steve goes in her hospital bed, where 'nurse' Dolores practices her torturous injection technique on the healthy hunk's behind. Eddie Clark brings Mark Soan tickets for his last show in the Magic Mansion with his traitorous partner Paul Madison, who intends to go solo and take all their tricks, leaving Clark stranded. Mark, Jack, Amanda and Dolores witness their last duo show, but instead of escaping Madison drowns, and the key to the cuffs Eddie handed him didn't fit. Mark, a gifted amateur illusionist himself, believes his former neighbor-boy Eddie's declaration of innocence, so he and Jack -'helped' by Amanda- investigate the other magicians performing in the mansion and possible business or amorous motives and alibi's. Shortly after he had a shouting match when his partner Sammy Garrett, who lacked the money to buy him out now he decided to sell and buy a ranch in Montana, Dimension dance studio partner Roland Spear dies when a short circuit in the lighting prop cane gives a light discharge, which arrests his pacemaker fatally. Dr. Mark Sloan had taken Sammy's place as Roland's tap dance partner in the annual benefit the fatal cane act was being rehearsed for, and snoops in the studio. Steve has no choice but arrest Sammy, his basketball partner, who hurt his ankle at the game. While Mark snoops in the studio circles and some suspects' private lives, Jack examines the repair shop where Sammy picked up the cane, as Mark things the tampering was done there. So various persons' motives and opportunities are examined till he knows enough to set a trap... |

In Community General Dr. Jack Stewart runs into Sandy Hoyle, who knows from high-school, and sends her for examination to Dr. Mark Sloan; her bruises testify to repeated beatings. When Jack follows her, he finds out she's a call-girl and plans to 'retire' thanks to a tape she can blackmail prominent clients with, the details of which are also kept 'in Lily's head'. After she does so, Mark who came to check up on her is found bend over her corps by Steve's LAPD colleague Detective Andy Ruggio; although no arrest is made, the headline is enough for the hospital board to 'recommend' him taking a vacation. Snooping in her house with Jack turns up the burned tape and black book, cigar traces and the identity of presumed blackmail victims from her late phone-calls, hot motives, so Mark goes check them out. First is new age guru brother Charles Simmons, next contractor Michael Davis whose company is about to go public, then rancher politician Joseph Talbot. Trough Sandy's ex-colleague Connie Stockwell, whose over-protective husband Max throws Jack in the pool just for talking to her, he and Amanda find out about 'madam' Elaine in whose brothel Bambi tells Mark about Sandy's mother Lily, or is she not the right trail after all? |

When LA mayor George Ridgeway's wife Lauren recognizes Benjamin Strand in the audience at a fund raiser attended by Mark and Norman, she fakes a migraine that night to sneak out, makes an appointment with him and shoots her husband at close range. Benjamin Strand is arrested by Steve as suspect based on previous crackpot death threats he made to the mayor, and possession of a gun the killer's caliber. Mark notices Lauren's pretended migraine is fake, while she gets a real one when already on treatment. When Jack and Amanda go look for tramp patient Lomax's bag, they find one with a small fortune in a dumpster in an alley behind the murder site, and traces of breaking in trough a broken window, close to the Ridgeway home. The mayor's anemic step-daughter Melissa Ridgeway is hospitalized, possibly anorexic, Lauren refuses that theory even being tested. Jack tails Lauren to Dr. John Harris's hotel room. Marc finds Lauren has a cut fitting the window break-in. Strand confesses, but suddenly Mark realizes the whole vile truth after studying Strand's police file... |

Chet looks up Jack, his med class mate till he dropped out without academic reason, borrows his bright new sports car, and has a deadly accident driving it to an important appointment with Lori, another former girlfriend, who seems turns out to be connected with a Detroit mobster's bookie racket. While Amanda gets furious nobody takes her word, least of all Norman Briggs, who checks up an doctors covering for absent colleagues, she remembers two goons were looking for 'a friend' a day earlier after the thugs roughed up poor Jack, who gets several more utterly undeserved beatings in the valiant course of the investigation, which Mark starts at Nirvana and proves there was more to Chet then pleasingly met the eye... |

When young prison doctor Dr. Tom Harvey gets his former mentor, Dr. Mark Sloan, to treat convict Paul Dunbar in Community General for a serious conduction, the criminal manages to grab a guard's gun and keeps the doctors hostage, demanding to speak to TV reporter Jordan Sanders, claiming he wants to clear his name to his kid son Nicky about the murder conviction for a security guard he claims got killed accidentally. Detective Sergeant Steve Sloan slips in too as sound man, only to see Sanders shot, Dunbar dies apparently after a suicide, saying something like 'doctor colecar' and Tom knocked unconscious; he feels guilty, as suggests nasty LAPD colleague Lt. Rick Valdez, who is investigating officially. Norman Briggs, who was briefly among the hostages, has a bad case of post-traumatic stress back in the hospital. A relatively severe earthquake causes a mess, including in Community General, many people crash given the state of their homes. Mark finds the crushing by a massive armoire of Martin Garfield -who earlier mistrusted his much younger bride Ruth's fiancé- was staged after the quake, given the dust on his corps. Mark finds Ruth with her studly 'jeweller' Henry in boxer-shorts, not aware of her prenuptial. At her advice he checks out Garfield's antiques business partner Stuart Westlake, who would be embezzling. He again points to Garfield's son-in-law, sculptor Rick Bennett, who is in gambling debt with a loan-shark and has a broken finger. Jack and Amanda tail a man who was snooping in Garfield's home, who goes sell to dodgy Bobby Rebetta a lumpy gold bar, the reshaped murder weapon... |

While staking mob hitman Bruno Crespi in his hotel room, Steve observes he has medical symptoms for which Bruno orders a refill from Spengler's pharmacy, which dad Mark diagnoses trough the telescope as asthma, and receives epinephrine which he injects himself, not uncommon with patients who have a standard prescription. Shortly after he collapses, Steve gets Mark who orders a quarantine there and in the hospital to make sure nobody is contaminated: the crook has bubonic plague. CDC doctor Niven cares only for press conferences which spread panic on the theory he must have been infected trough rats on a freighter he arrived on from South east Asia, ignoring the Sloanes' observations the epinephrine vial was full, so replaced by the maid, which wasn't actually on hotel staff: murder by plague injection. Steve and Jack know about the crime families which include three women with a plausible motive to kill Bruno, so the snooping can start. Bruno's wife Charlene Baylor can now collect his life-insurance, his stepmother Regina Baylor got control of the mob family business and his sister Jennifer 'Jenny' hated him for 'cheating' her (however legally) out of a fair share of their father's inheritance, and even pharmacist Spengler has mob connections as Jack finds- again at unnecessary peril thanks to 'helpful' Amanda. Then Mark and Jack find Spengler shot dead and the source of the plague injection, but the wrong cure and they're not alone on account of his contraband trade... |

When the convent's gardener, non-violent ex-con Vic Chandler, is arrested, sister Michael, who is legendary late cop Charlie Donahue's daughter Maggie, gets LAPD Detective Steve Sloan to double the police investigation. LAPD Detective Claire Van Sickle grants him no favors as colleague Steve stood her up a while ago. The two harpies team up to 'coordinate their attack' on Mark. While investigating -with Jack and Amanda in pretense characters- Pitt's heiress and the other threatening clients, martial arts master Nick Cove and Attorney Avery Decker, who specializes in setting up insurance fraud with false diagnoses, he is attacked by the real killer together with McCord... |

Chairman Elton Malone drops dead from the fast poison on an envelope he licks claiming it contains proof which other board member embezzled $300,000 from his charitable foundation, but it was a literally empty threat. Besides Community General administrator Norman Briggs, who seats on account of its free clinic funding, the board members -now murder suspects- are Mort Slater, Christine Shaw whose husband Charles is running for Congress and dodgy art investment broker Alexander Damon. The Sloanes look into Damon's faltering business, but he drops dead at Malone's funeral from a curare air-gun dart shot, and wasn't the thief. Amanda joins the Shaw election campaign and finds her financing fishy, but she drops dead at Damon's funeral and Charles redraws his candidature. Norman, whose job is now very precarious, believes Slater must be the killer, as his brewery is rumored in trouble; Jack knows Mort and goes snooping just when Steve does, and finds out he planned a torch job. Mark also turns his attention to the Malone foundation minutes secretary Jennifer Sweeney who attended all funerals and fainted at Damon's. Slater did embezzle to pay the arsonist, but dies from curare at the Shaw funeral... |

Dr. Mark Sloane gets suspicious when his patient Robert Stanton, a businessman, doesn't show up for an urgent X-ray follow-up examination to determine if he actually has TBC, after witnessing how unfaithful Robert was affronted on a party by his mistress Marilyn Kramer, a fashion model, and wife Irene Stanton, whose capital is vital for his firm's Japanese deal negotiation. Indeed the two women have conspired to kill him and hide the body. So he sends Jack and Amanda snooping in the fashion scene. Meanwhile Steve has fallen head over heals, undercover, for a socialite and begs everyone for loans for treats he can't afford and Jack and Amanda for slick dating tips... |

After a birthday dinner with the boys -even Norman, who rushes off early to greet a hospital accreditation inspection trio- for Mark Sloan, he gets stuck in handcuffs used for a surprise stripper; alas Jack forgot to ask for the keys from Community General's old security agent McCreedy, who just got fired, replaced by Norman's new, show-piece excessive goon force, and lost the keys years ago anyway. Yet Mark has worse to hide from the inspectors: a murder victim which mysteriously appears without ID in the hospital pharmacy and disappears with the presumed murder weapon before Steve arrives. Luckily he's identified as lawyer Lorenzo P. Kotch by footage on TV; he was mixed up in motive-providing matters like a nasty divorce and a culinary business war, even the inspection chairwoman hates him. His corps appears and disappears again and Mark thinks of another twist... |

Pamela Dorn, the 'Queen of the Jungle' TV series star who desperately wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps as movie star, is in Community General for a nip and tuck, with an undercover TV reporter pretending to need an appendectomy bugging her as a career move, when one of Pam's four ex-husbands, who had casting approval of the one movie she hoped to make her career but accepted Julia Roberts instead, is murdered. The condo manager and another ex saw Pam there, yet Mark, who knew her as a little girl, insists she's being framed by one of her surviving ex husbands. Despite a guilt trip on Jack -who hates Pam after she made him get her ice-cream after midnight- and even extremely amateur help from Norman and Delores, they only turn up more incriminating evidence against Pam, Steve had alibi's for all ex's, but Mark persists one alibi must be fake, and comes up with an ingeniously complex murder plot... |

Corporate multimillionaire William P. Bissell slaps Community General with a frightening lawsuit for malpractice etcetera for an operation on both knees which got him in a wheelchair because he ignored all doctor's orders, but Norman Briggs get him to accept to be accommodated and reconsider if cured. An accident puts Mark in bed, but while taunting him 'on the other side' Bissel dies from an OD of his regular medicine, which must have been administered during visiting hours. Motives are obvious for Bill's CFO and heir apparent Thomas Taylor, who he just demoted to division head in Europe, and now succeeds as CEO, widow Emily Bissell, loving mistress Jenny Morley and his sued orthopedic surgeon Karen Fielder, who has a hidden past. Meanwhile Steve is sleepy because he has started a night course in law, and Mark is determined to do something about the lousy monotonous hospital food even if it takes blackmailing Norman. |

Jack asks Mark as a favor to operate on his godfather, mob don Alfredo Bartolo aka Alfred 'Al' Bartell, who checked into hospital as Mr. Johnson with his entourage. Alas 'Al' dies on the operation table, apparently from an improbable switch of clearly differently colored suture types. Al's son and heir Vinnie Bartell blames and implicitly threatens Mark; according to Steve's FBI contact agent Gayle Wheeler, Vinnie was looking to take over the 'family business', while Jack believes family is sacred even for that murderous scum and finds out a suspicious cleaning lady in OR was fake. Mark's rental car (after an ordinary accident) is blown up by a bomb... |

P.I. Charlie Hawkins was shot and dies in Community General, his last words make little sense: tell Georgia 'Jerry Mathers'? Georgia is his secretary, whose female charms make Jack dump his long-awaited Hawaiian holiday to rival in helpfulness with Steve while they check out Charlie's last case, about an ice cream company called after the late founder Hary Litvaks' boys 'Walter & Harry' while the promotion is done by two actors under these co-heirs names. Envelopes of money point to the sons, or after re-examination to their third sibling, Samantha Litvak, but then she's poisoned with cyanide which is also an ice cream byproduct, as was also found in Charlie's corps, it could have killed him before he was shot, also lethal, so there may well be two independent murderers. Meanwhile Norman has a prospective fiancée who must be reassured about his fertility... |

Son Roger Valin found out pa was also doing his girlfriend and needed money to prevent his holistic medicine (frowned at by MDs) practice going belly up. Yet his much younger widow Bonnie, who has a hunky lover, when accused convinces Mark to find proof of her innocence which gets her sentenced innocent, most embarrassing for Steve, before Mark realizes she set him up with her perjuring hunky boyfriend Dave McDonnell... |

Bonnie Valin confesses to Mark she arranged for him to get her off for the greedy laughing gas murder on her husband plastic surgeon Elliot, trusting the double jeopardy rule renders her immune to prosecution. Meanwhile Jack is determined to get Amanda's embezzled trust fund back by posing as the seller and later buyer of the missing can of Campbell soup painting, for which he knows a perfect forger. Worse, his adversary Tommy Brackett is diagnosed with an irregular heart beat, no more fighting ever, so he refuses furious Jones a rematch. Brackett is found dead smothered the next morning, next to Mercury's hospital ID bracelet. Jack learns from neighborhood friend Marco who lost big betting and joins as 'Animal' -unwilling sparing partner- Tommy's ex-trainer Butch Reilly's gym to search Bracket's locker and office, confirming it was already deep in debt facing bankruptcy, as Steve already knew, but also a check indicating promoter Wayne Topping bought the fight. Steve gets a 'friendly' visit from Eddie Gault, a wife-killer he put away, who just finished his prison term, now on parole, and hints he's after vengeance on Steve and his family. So Steve moves back into his memories-riddled old room with dad, who has a hard time with a new alarm system, making the Sloan beach-house a regular false alarm destination for the security firm. Smooth talker Eddie, a skilled electrician, takes an easy but low-paid job as orderly in Community General, making a good first impression on everyone; even when told about his record, Norman can find no valid excuse to fire him. Gault even gets a restraining order served to Steve, who warned Eddie's new wife, met trough correspondence in prison and already beaten. Gault proves he can get past the Sloans' alarm and a Labrador retriever guard dog; warning him off only gets Steve suspended. Gault picks on other targets too... |

Alas the players do more fighting then teaming, and allegedly an unidentified deranged man is attacking star player Rita Jansen, not a first. The sponsorship includes free physicals, which Norman insist to be done by unwilling 'mature' Mark, not 'young horny' volunteer Jack. Rita is murdered just after a player tampered with the team's blood sample labels, which is found out; Jack will take new ones, chaperoned by Amanda, but finds sparring as painful as taking a beating. Steve goes in undercover as trainer-masseur. Soon potential motives abound, alibis lack, but a jock suit wearer knocks over Amanda and gets away. Amanda surprised the gang plus Norman hosting a dinner party, when her high-pregnant friend Angela Pearson arrives and gives birth to healthy quadruplets, two of each, while insisting apparently deliriously not to let the babies be stolen, something to do with her friend Carol at Shady Glen, a well-reputed home Aanda recommended herself. The hospital colleagues are literally left holding the babies, a task soon ceasing to be cute. Angela goes missing next morning, so the quadruplets -claimed as publicity boon for Comunity General by Norman- stay at Mark's beach-house, to avoid social services placing them in impersonal protective custody as abandoned, so Jack, who gets stuck with them the most, hires student Ty Bradford as part-time male (despite his and common prejudice, actually simply superior, admirably organized) nanny. Meanwhile Amanda checks in at Shady Glen, pretending to be a mother-to-be willing to have her baby adopted, and Mark and Steve play their own part snooping, and recognize suspended medical fraudster Dr. Henry Wexler, who is in league with nursing staff there, who are willing to kill for babies to sell or to protect that illegal secret... |

In a raffle, Amanda won a 'walk-on' guest appearance on the soap The Young and the Restless. Everybody is eager to join, only Norman fears it's bad publicity for the hospital. On the set, several accidents and the almost usual threats among the fan-mail clearly add up to a murderer on the lose. Mark becomes a regular, like Steve who does the official investigation, especially after a death, and the Sloans have plenty of suspects to eliminate, both there and outside. Psychiatrist Max Frye asks Mark's help convincing his patient, Tara Sampson, that she isn't pregnant from an 'overwhelming alien', if at all. Her husband, rock star Noble Samson, is both unfaithful and abusive, his latest conquest being his band guitarist Willy's gullible wife. During a concert attended by Mark's gang, Noble collapses while entering on stage, with a fatal kitchen-knife is his back. Groupie Christie Rowan was seen leaving Noble's dressing-room. Steve is convinced the case is simple as the Sampsons's maid Anita Henry heard Tara threaten to kill Noble for telling her not to keep the baby, she claims an alien did it to protect the human baby but passes the polygraph test. Jack learns about Willy's wife, Christie being his lover and he's the new band leader. Dr. Freye tells Mark that Tara found Noble 'did' their maid Anita, who turns out to be his main heir by testament. Steve follows Tara to the home of young minor band musician Johnny 'M' Meslofski, whom she kisses like a lover; he had a grudge against Noble for scoring big with some of his songs and makes a phony confession which Tara undoes as he ignores the backstage passes color that night. Grumpy police lieutenant Mike Delaney, who originally arrested Karn, barely tolerates deadly-worried son Steve on his manhunt detail. Tycoon Gregory King is admitted in Community General by Mark's fellow army veteran Dr. Ed Quiller. Jessie, who is seriously overworked, sees goons besides a man in major cardiac arrest running away when he arrives, dashes for a crash-cart himself but at his return it's another patient then the man Quiller identifies as his patient King. Norman's top priority is Page Tanner, the sexy young widow who must be convinced to continue her husband's annual generous donations or the hospital budget is screwed; she knows to appreciate his accounting, being an investment manager, they enjoy good wine together too and she proposes romantically... Jesse refuses to catch up with sleep till the mystery corps is found, and realizes cardiac symptoms can be mimicked, with an asthma dilator like he saw used by one of the goons, who threaten him to leave the patient alone. Jesse overhears them talking with Quiller and the patient about too much exposure and a delivery, so he follows them, sees the corps in a boot but is spotted and left knocked down with a concussion, the body is gone again. While Jesse, who thinks it's all a drug smuggle scam, is finally crashed out, Amanda finds and looses the corps. Now another live King appears and Quiller explains, but Mark smells a rat, so when Jesse wakes up...

The sleuths find the free clinic which examines homeless in that area, run by Cheryl Dante and Tom Winston, is linked to Howard Mitchell's foundation's Beverly Hills private practice, where organs could be sold for fabulous fortunes. At a party where he gave his younger wife Jennifer a black Viper sports car, Bill Stratton is called away to the office; someone had intruded there, waiting with the fatal gun. At Bill's cremation, Steven remarks street thug who 'moved up' to sweat-shops with illegal immigrants Stan Macky and Lenore, the angrily estranged daughter from Bill's first marriage. Shady Alan Helms, in debt and a nasty divorce, said he was only one of many business friends who were cut off by Bill after his marriage to Jennifer, who claims Helms recently came ask for another loan. Norman asks Mark's piano-accompaniment to rehearse for the modern major-general's part in a community theater production of The Pirates of Penzance, but shows neither talent nor memory anywhere near the Gilbert and Sullivan requirements and no patience at all. Widow Jennifer recently bought a gun which she 'now notices is gone' and says Stan was a client of Bill; she inherits everything, Lenore nothing, since a will change only a month ago. Jennifer's alibi is her identical twin sister Joan, but Chinese delivery man Al Cho saw the Viper, either could have killed Bill. Jennifer's fingerprints are on both dumped murder gun and last will. Steve and Jesse find Jennifer's corps in the fatally Viper-fumed closed garage with a hand-written suicide note and confession. The autopsy doesn't fit, but the list of suspects with motive and opportunity shortens fast, except for Jennifer's heir, or maybe not quite as it appears... |

Vic proves hard to shake, dodgy but crafty and on crucial occasions helpful, for starters to use the hospital's digital enhancement equipment to identify the kidnappee from a Medwatch tag as Darlene Mix, an escort girl from Wisconsin. They find her just in time to save her from goons, which they trace to mobster Eddie Alcala, who threw the party where Darlene saw a man bloodily kill another escort girl, Barbara Lake. However Alcala is also killed during his arrest, more digital enhancement and a secret file Steve pulled explain why... |

Attractive Kristie Lofton wounds her head falling on a video recorder and tells Jesse in ER she had a psychic vision of the murder of investment broker Nick Holloway, who planned a take-over of her boss Craig Wohlman's TV infomercials program, Psychic Buddies. For a dinner Jesse promises her Steve will investigate, but Nick just left on a two weeks Yellowstone camping trip in good health and spirit. Kristie has another vision about another show guest and an umbrella, Mark who told Jesse she may be honest helps them find the site outside the studio; there she has a vision with his car number plate and camping equipment, a dumpster accidentally (?) nearly hits her. Steve finds she has a drugs and cons charges record in 16 states, yet no convictions. Norman is a gold card Buddies-member, but clearly has no real psychic gift. Mark finds the firm has various other shows and associated product lines, Wolhlman claims Nick was only offering the studio a loan he no longer needed, but staff believed in and feared a take-over by Holloway. Kristie tells Jesse her parents were the traveling minor league hustlers, and from another vision correctly predicts Holloway's car and corps in the booth are in Lake Hollywood. Steve treats her and two other Psychic Buddies (mediums) as suspects. Kristie tells Jesse a new vision about another real murder, fellow medium Sylvana Kent being run over by her own car, for which Kristie and Craig have an alibi studio recording time, the third Buddy is blind. Mark keeps snooping in the studio and realizes how the murderer operated... At the L.A. book signing session for "Munchies, Snacks and Spreads", which Mark mistook for a cookbook but is actually a spicy true sex for money story which names the real people, someone writes a death threat in the copy Mark picks up to have signed anyway by former neighborhood kid Melissa Farnes, one of the three co-authors with call girls Shauna Teague and Carrie. Their pushy agent Janet Block refuses to call the 21 city book signing tour off as the extra publicity makes the book a bestseller. Melissa asks to talk to Mark; Jesse who knew what he wanted signed (none of the 86 stories are alike, that interests even Norman and hypocritical Amanda) is not allowed to join the beach house lunch. Then Shauna doesn't turn up for a radio show, but is heard on the phone in a crazed kidnapper's power, who shoots; she remains missing, her car is found in Santa Monica. Carrie is tricked in her hotel room by the killer with a fake police idea and made to ask Melissa to come there alone. A maid finds Melissa next to Carrie's corps, saying the killer was scared off- prints prove it's ex-con Thomas L. Pitt. Community General's laryntologist Dr. Bannerman proves his skill by electronically analyzing the radio station's tape as made in a cab, calling in his L.A. position, which was stolen. Pitt is found in it, also shot dead. The co-authors had a survival-clause for all rights... Meanwhile Amanda desperately tries to repeat her marriage vows to USNAF fighter pilot Colin, now on mission in Bosnia, as their wedding chaplain and officiant were illegal. |

While Mark is the cooking guest that week in her daily healthy housekeeping show, TV host Kitti Lynn Hastings uses a 26 minutes break for commercials and music to sabotage the wiring in in-your-face radio presenter Carl Burke's bathroom, so he electrocutes himself stepping out of his shower. Mark soon guesses she did it, but has a hard time figuring out how precisely and why exactly, as she had accepted to appear -as target- in his show. Meanwhile Jesse's rotation at plastic surgery makes him suggest to Norman to solve his midlife looks-depression under Jesse's scalpel, but the cutting-edge surgery he shows only gets the potential patient scared. |

Just when Jesse takes a now unamused girlfriend yachting, the harbor master brings in a shark who swallowed an arm of rich stock broker Preston Michaels, presumably haven fallen overboard, plausibly drunk, but autopsy soon finds he was fatally poisoned with digitalis, the shark got a fatal heart-attack. Curious Mark condoles respectable widow Bea and learns from lawyer Raymond Bergman he is named executor of the estate; Preston on a posthumous video admits he was a bigamist having two younger wives in other states, fitness freak Heather (Florida) and Terri (Colorado) Michaels who was told he wanted a divorce; all wives deny to know about the others but lack alibis, while Preston's personal assistant, Susan Stimpson, says she managed his triple life. Raymond Bergman calls Mark to tell who he suspects but just then is killed by his pool. The firm's VP Evan Houston, now acting CEO, also was in the house and asks Mark $50,000 of Preston's capital for firm expenses. Steve's LAPD friend Douglas Quinten 'Doug' Vogel gets killed during a SWAT bust by a bullet from his own commander, Max Jupe, two years from retirement. City Attorney Andrew Chivers forbids Max any contact with the widow Janine, who quickly accepts the 20% profit-sharing legal services of slick Attorney Daniel Brent. In fact Max and Janine planned it, being secret lovers. Mark quickly catches on when Max is diagnosed with chicken pocks, a common problem in Janine's daycare center, while they claim not to have met in three months. A 'shooting demonstration' by cocky Max proves his eye-sight and aim couldn't have failed such a marksman. While surfing, Jesse finds a dying man on the Venice beach; Mark knows the symptoms from Guatemala, 1953 as small pocks: fatal, highly contagious and successfully eradicated. The beach-house is quarantined, the beach cleared. Autopsy on victim Eddy, a thief, shows it's a man-made mutation with an 8 hours incubation period. In his backpack Jesse finds only jewelry, including B.A.L.-initialed cuff-links: robbed neighbor Brandon Lyndstrom, found murdered at his home, who was the CEO of biological research company Lyndscience; there VP Gayle Wentworth claims the virus could never have left the facility and invokes national security, but indeed all samples are missing from the safe. Jesse tells Mark, whose immunization is outdated, he admires how close he and Steve are, Jesse's dad is barely a rare postcard. Mark calls the FBI, which puts Special Agent Dunleavy in care together with Steve and 'informally' contacts the likely virus fence, Sebastian Dupré, who claims he 'must inquire'; filially frantic Steve pressures Dupré the hard way, finds the thief Ray Dinino but he hasn't got the antidote... Best man Jessie's frat buddy Rick 'Slick' Brooks, barely injected back to life after a killer bachelor party, got an anonymous phone call asking him to come from Donovan who 'doesn't want to scare the boy' - Steve is there already. Rick can't identify the corps, but Ray's cases include one concerning insurance and Rick's fiancée Wendy Windsor, the daughter of bossy showbiz photographer Catherine Windsor. The autopsy reveals tiny races of film and Mercedes transmission fluid, both fitting Catherine, and Jessie finds out the same car type terminally hit at least one of Wendy's two previous fiancés, the other was also killed. However the sleuths find other suspicious traces linking to X-rays, which proves quite dangerous to investigate, even twice... |

That same Darren Worthy, an expensive attorney, offers his legal services to suspect Capshaw, who just resigned from the project, pro bono, so he can mess up her defense, next plants incriminating evidence in her home and at the murder site. Fortunately for Mary, the Sloans soon suspect Worthy's defense options; Mark sleuths on and realizes only he had he opportunity to plant evidence Mark knows for sure wasn't there. When Norman ceremonially knocks down a piece of wall at the inauguration of a Community General expansion named after rich hospital alumnus and benefactor Dr. Raymond Huxley, a completely bleached skeleton falls out. From his ring Mark identifies him as the late, brilliant cardiac surgeon Dr. Greg Nordoff, who disappeared on the day of the Dallas Kennedy assassination, while the hospital was in an even worse state, due to ongoing construction. Only a hearing aid remains intact, but turns out not to be his. Nordoff was assumed at the time to have embezzled a lot from the hospital's surgical research fund, so that previous crime, also decades ago, may be the key; Mark was too shell-shocked at the time to investigate, but is determined now -visited by flash-backs- to clear it all up, especially after nurse Jane Ellington, also on staff and Nordoff's lover in the Sixties, is murdered in the garage, after the fatal heart-attack of Dr. Huxley. Even finding records proves hard and physically dangerous for Jessie. There turns out to exist a crucial miniature pacemaker prototype... |

Stuntwoman Paula McCarthy was found beaten to death in an L.A. hotel-room. Her husband Barry McCarthy was arrested there. Dr. Eric Spindler tries to stop Charlie operating a car accident victim without waiting for an MRI, then convinces the family to sue for ER malpractice and acts as star witness. Spindler's girlfriend nurse Jeri Murdico cheated him at birth-control and refuses an abortion, he thinks she just wants to marry his money. Jessie begs Mark to ask his friend Ben Matlock (star of the homonymous murder lawyer series) to defend him, which requires good pay and fringe benefits. Alas Ben's boisterous court room style gets him jailed for contempt of court. Jeri goes over to Eric's place and during an argument knocks him down with a lamp, he's dead. Ben takes her case at Mark's insistence, but she's not charged because Spindler was already fatally poisoned. Steve is taken off the case because Jesse becomes the prime suspect given his motive and his fingerprints on a bottle containing the rare poison which was also found in his bathroom: Ben now has an angelic murder charge defendant as client, bail denied. Steve is too late to stop a man stealing something from the murder-scene. Spindler's car was packed for a Santa Barbara hotel, where he repeatedly called stunt double Debbie Gardner, Paula McCarthy's sister and successor. They assume Debbie's now arrested husband Jack Gardner, who is on the stolen Paula McCarthy arrest video in his truck, can link both murders. Barry McCarthy tells them in jail his murdered wife flirted habitually, the fatal night with Nick Cravits, Barry has a drunk black-out how bad it got that night with Spindler but believes he's innocent. Mark realizes Spindler had opportunity during an operation to steal some of the hair -suspiciously cut and torn- and blood to frame Barry, as there is no other proof for his presence, but why? Ben shows Debbie a Community General surveillance picture proving Jack was there the day of Barry's operation, and guesses he and Spindler conspired to frame Barry. When top surgeon Dr. Ken Morrisay, who doesn't bother, is the victim of similar morbid 'pranks' as in Boston while in Community General to operate his former teacher Dr. Jeff Everden, assisted by rival ex-pupil Dr. Clayton Andrews (a source of pride for Norman), Boston anesthesiologist Dr. Les Franklin, Dr. Sally Crawfield, Mark and Jesse, who gets hit by blood aimed from a riding car at Morrissay, Steve investigates. During the operation, Morrisay gets a fatal heart attack, Andrews saves Everden by stepping in. The car is traced to animal rights activist Claire McKenna. Then Mark notices Morrissay's death was cleverly triggered by toxic levels of organic phosphates, which kicks in too fast to be administered before the operation. Dr. Sally Crawfield turns out to be a closet Animal Crusade member, and has a history with Morrisay, who used lab test animals. Andrews is to get a top post now Morrissay is out of the way, while Franklin's pathologically philandering but filthy rich wife Nancy had an affair with Morrissay, but he spills more dirt on Crawfield. Mark works out how the poison was used and plans a trap... |

The airplane Mark and Amanda are taking for a medical conference in Zurich (Switzerland) is delayed to wait for alternative co-pilot Ron Manners, a reputed womanizer. Mark observes the staff have their own problems on top of work, a troublemaker, a female jeweler who ignores the smoking ban. Then Mark finds Ron's corps in the toilet, neck broken, and starts looking for the murderer among over 100 passengers plus staff after contacting Steve, airplanes being extraterritorial. Then several crew members are found unconscious, cause unknown, leaving no pilot, just passenger Martin Donner Kingston, who has US Air Force experience. Steve finds the originally scheduled co-pilot, knocked down but alive; while Jesse treats his seizure Mark figures out it's a binary poison triggered by aspirin, possibly administered at the hotel all staff except local Deb slept in, the lab confirms: it's a spy toxin. Claire Whitfield makes sure Mark notices the bruise on her cheek, supposedly from her wealthy, hot-tempered husband Elliott, whose alleged sleep-apnea symptoms she supposedly reports to the doctor, actually it's deliberately given by her studly lover Max Halleck, even stages Elliot to shake her at a party and gets her lover to 'snore' heavily enough on a 'bedroom tape' before murdering Elliot, staging fatal apnea. Mark, who worries age is physically catching up with himself, notices deep scratches on Elliot's hand, which don't fit with her bruises, and finds milky residue in broken glass, enough to recommend an autopsy; Amanda finds traces of the prescription sedative Deterol on the broken glass, but the body is already cremated. Elliot's secretary Dorothy tells she knows from business trips he didn't snore, but refuses to testify. Mark tries about every trick in the trade to outsmart the merry murdering widow. Now the murderers show Steve pictures and tapes which Max, supposedly hired by Elliot, cleverly made and edited to suggest an affair between Mark and Claire, so as to discredit his snooping, but mess with the wrong guy, while Elliot actually had hired another detective who photographed Max. Tim Conrad, the clumsy half of a once legendary TV comedy duo, fails to kill his ex-partner Harvey Huckaby, still affluent and the second husband of Tim's ex Susan Huckaby, who cleverly bought Tim's half of the TV rights just before a movie was going to be made about them, first because Tim drops his sniper gun and secondly because Susan put the glasses on a trey after he poisoned one -drank it himself, but is saved in Community General- and gets noticed as fake pool-boy -using a trademark disguise- trying to rig Harvey's pool-cover, and gets the shock of his life: Harvey lives, the pool-cover has killed Susan because of a timer Tim ignored. Mark believes Tim is innocent of the only assassination that happened despite his murderous intentions, but has a hard time proving the bumbler's innocence and finding the real and sneaky killer... |

The Sloans fear for Mark's life after the escape of Sam Rosser who vowed revenge since Mark got him convicted for a brutal postal bombing murder. Norman also has a fight to the death: against a hospital take-over by Vaugh Medical Services, which appeals to most of the board but would be detrimental to patient care; Mark gets one day delay to receive a frightening report about a San Diego hospital Vaughn took over, Kurt Vaughn hisses he won't be stopped. Med student Dr. Brian Haywood asked Jessie to intercede with Mark about his residency, but screws up once too often by resuscitating a DNR-patient without reading her chart; Brian refuses Jesse's help to get off amphetamines.
