[Update: A Los Angeles federal judge has set a Jan. 6 trial date for the Fox vs Warner Bros lawsuit, well ahead of the current release date.]
What an unbelievable mess this whole Watchmen movie fiasco has turned into. The average person has to ask themselves: How the heck does something like this happen? I mean, isn’t this why corporations have massive legal departments stocked chock full of everyone’s favorite people: lawyers?
Let’s take a look at the history of Watchmen in Hollywood to try to sort this all out.
The crux of the matter hinges on something in the movie industry known as “putting a film in turnaround.” Turnaround is basically a way for a studio that owns the rights to a property (in this case, Fox ownership of Watchmen) to “release” a project and allow another studio to make a film based on that property.
Of course the studio which owns the rights does not give this away for free, but depending on the specific arrangement either sells or “leases” the right

Top Ten Movie Mullets There was a time when mullets were cool. It was a magical world of blue-denim jackets, Bob Saget's comedic prowess, and conservatives with some sanity. That world is extinct now. But archeological remnants linger everywhere, the most fascinating of which is the mullet. We find traces of the mullet in photos, TV shows, and movies from this time period known as "The Rad Years." We point and laugh and wonder who would ever ask for such a ridiculous hairdo. Some of us even copycat the mullet as some ironic tribute to a simpler time where looking stupid was looking fine. A few real mullets still exist, hiding in the backwoods, trailer parks, and 24-hour bowling alleys of the once-proud Confederate states. Yet, for the most part, the mullet died about 15 years ago. A slow fadeout. Some wept, some did not. Yet, all of us, secretly or not,

Dark Castle Entertainment is an odd little beast of a production outfit. Headed by uber-producer Joel Silver (Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, The Matrix), the company originally focused on horror remakes (House on Haunted Hill, House of Wax) and originals (Gothika, The Reaping). More recently they branched out to a wider variety of material (Guy Ritchie's RocknRolla, Dominic Sena's Whiteout). Their next two projects, however, will be solidly horror-based.
ShockTilYouDrop reports that All Cheerleaders Die, a horror-comedy, and "another chapter in the House on Haunted Hill saga," possibly a prequel, are under development. No writers or directors are signed at this point. Evidently the company is also mulling over other sequels to properties they developed at Warner Brothers.
In October 2006, Dark Castle entered into an agreement with finance company Cit whereby Cit would finance 15 feature films over six years with a

Can any of them be true?
It's the Rumor Mill Roundup featuring all the latest trash movie "news" that websites posted this week. The majority of which never come true and never will come true and were just flat out made up by rag sources to inspire online insanity. Last week it was how Johnny Depp was going to play The Riddler in the next Batman film with Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin. People jumped on that as if it was the last train out of town and the village was burning. The damn thing came from Bang Showbiz, but since The Boston Globe was regurgitating it they took it to be legit. This is the Internet folks, researching goes as far as it needs to just to get a clickable headline. Is Britney Spears going to star in a movie that Quentin Tarantino isn't going to even work on for probably two years?

Danny Glover's movie project with Venezuelan strongman Hugo Chavez never got off the ground - and it's because of Hollywood's racism, Glover whines. Marxist Chavez was smart enough to offer just half the financing for the film, $18 million. Glover was supposed to get the other $18 million from a distributor, but no one in Hollywood was interested in a preachy film about Haitian independence hero Toussaint L'Ouverture. Glover told a Paris film seminar: "Producers said, It's a nice project, a great project . . . where are the white heroes?' " The

TrackingB.com, a script-tracking site, has reported that original Lethal Weapon screenwriter Shane Black has quietly written a spec script for Lethal Weapon 5 and is shopping it to producer Joel Silver. According to the site, “Original screenwriter Shane Black quietly wrote the script on spec, without telling anyone… Then, he called Joel Silver and essentially told him he wanted the story to continue and that he had already written the script… We hear this time homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) is about to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sun…Gibson and Glover are down to return (although no deals have been signed yet). With the attractive package and a solid script, the picture will go… soon.”

Mel Gibson and Danny Glover have reportedly signed up to star in a fifth Lethal Weapon movie.
The actors are said to be in negotiations for Lethal Weapon 5 - ten years after the release of the fourth installment of the action franchise.
Director Richard Donner, who oversaw all four of the previous films, last year revealed that he was ready to make another movie - as long as Gibson agreed.
And now it looks as if the picture could finally get the green light.
A source tells British newspaper the Daily Star, "Lethal Weapon 5 is a go. Mel and Danny are back. The script is fabulous!"

Though critics may be divided over "Pineapple Express" . at the time of this writing, it weighs in at 57% on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer . there is a consensus about at least one aspect of the Judd Apatow-produced stoner comedy: surprise over the choice of David Gordon Green as director. As Roger Ebert puts it in his positive review of the film, Green, "that poet of the cinema, is the last person you'd expect to find directing a male-buddy comedy about two potheads who start a drug war." Based on some of his own past comments, Green might be inclined to agree with him; when promoting his debut film "George Washington" a few years ago, Green told Charlie Rose, "I'm interested in any movie that's not like other movies. Growing up, I wasn't so much a 'Star Wars' or 'Raiders' kind of kid. I was a guy who'd watch 'Walkabout.

It was a few weeks ago that a supposed script outline had been written for a sequel to the Tom Cruise-of-yore Top Gun. That turned out to be, as some Jewish folk might say, total bubkis. Will that be the same fate the latest rumor concerning another iteration of the Lethal Weapon franchise? I think so, but we'll have to wait and see as these rumors get run through the ringer. TrackingB.com (via ComingSoon) tells us that series screenwriter Shane Black has written a spec script on his own for a Lethal Weapon 5, and apparently ran it past producer Joel Silver. They also claim that "Gibson and Glover are down to return." While a new film isn't totally out there, I have to call bullsh*t on the whole idea that Mel Gibson and Danny Glover would reprise their roles. Just like with the Top Gun rumor and

I think that it’s well known around these parts that I’m a big supporter of Mel Gibson (let’s not get into his views, the guy is a movie star), and that I love Richard Donner’s movies. I also love the work of Shane Black - that guy knew how to pen a witty action movie. If you don’t know, check out Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Last Boy Scout.
And now news has come in that Shane Black, writer of the original Lethal Weapon film, has apparently penned a fifth installment of the action series. Allegedly he has shown the script to producer Joel Silver (Speed Racer) and both Danny Glover and Mad Mel are interested in returning to their signature roles!
This is great news - but is it really going to happen?
Acoording to Tracking B.com (via Comingsoon) :
“Riggs (Gibson) is about to retire,

A gazillion years ago ( ok maybe not that long ago ) it was being reported that Mel Gibson was offered $30million to reprise his role in the Lethal Weapon franchise. A whole lot of donuts that will buy you! The problem at the time was that Danny Glover had no interest in returning which is odd since I dont think he is very busy. He announced a few years back that he didn't want to do another Lethal Weapon. If he didnt come back there was talks to bring back Chris Rocks character, Lee Butters. Today from Xtaster comes word that the original writer of Lethal Weapon has a script d...

I have a very vivid memory of watching The Goonies in the cinema as a child and considering that it was 1985 that’s no easy feat. My mum and aunt took my brother, my cousin and I to see Santa Claus: The Movie, but the screening was full. I know, I don’t get that either - it’s seen as one of the legendary bombs. Anyway, instead of seeing Santa Claus we went to see The Goonies, and we all loved it!
The Goonies from that moment on became our movie, and I still love it today. Over the years I managed to become a big fan of the work of Richard Donner, and to discover that he was behind it made it even cooler - how many iconic movies has this guy made? Superman, Lethal Weapon and The Omen - what a guy!
However, I digress - word

Actor Gary Busey will be kicked out of his California home of more than 14 years if he doesn't pay up more than $50,000 (GBP25,000) in outstanding rent, his landlord has claimed.
The Lethal Weapon star's Malibu landlord claims he has withheld rent for almost a year.
But Busey's attorney Vicki Roberts insists the actor has no trouble keeping up with the $6,000 (GBP3,000)-a-month rent, choosing instead to withhold the funds until blocked air vents - which are damaging his health - are cleared.
She tells The National Enquirer, "It's true he owed over $50,000 in back rent - but he stopped paying because of a health issue. The landlord wouldn't clean out the vents."
This isn't the first time Busey has fallen behind on home payments. The actor was taken to court in 2004 after falling behind $52,000 (GBP26,000) in rent, claiming his household was riddled with mould.

Latest: Mel Gibson has been left devastated after hearing the news of a construction worker's suicide at his California home.
The body of 48-year-old Michael John Van Dyke, who reportedly hanged himself, was found at the Agoura Hills property on Wednesday.
The house is currently under heavy construction and the Lethal Weapon star and his family were not present at the time of the incident.
A representative for the actor/director admits Gibson feels "terrible" about the situation, even though he had never met Van Dyke himself.
Van Dyke is alleged to have been an old friend of the contractor hired to work on Gibson's mansion, but had no direct ties to the actor.
According to Tmz.com, Van Dyke worked as a construction foreman on movie sets including The Matrix Reloaded, Star Trek: Nemisis and Dr. Dolittle 2.
He was reportedly experiencing financial difficulty following a messy divorce at the time of his death.

Lethal Weapon star Danny Glover has been convicted on trespassing charges for his part in a union rally in a Niagara Falls, Ontario hotel in 2006. Bosses at Canadian Niagara Hotels charged the actor and two Unite Here union representatives with trespassing at their Sheraton on the Falls resort.
