Aliens to be the Opponents in Peter Berg's 'Battleship' Movie?
We're not quite sure if we like this idea or not (it falls under the intriguing yet silly categories simultaneously), but according to Latino Review, the antagonists in director Peter Berg's new Battleship movie will be aliens.
Yep, that's right, they're apparently from outer space, if Latino's report is correct. "Et, you sank my battleship!"
Not much else is known about the Peter Berg-helmed project, other than the director's own description for the film, which he laid out as "a contemporary story of an international five-ship fleet engaged in a very dynamic, violent and intense battle."
Berg is something of a student of naval history, so we have to confess that this intrigues us somewhat...though battling aliens is a tricky business that will have to be handled deftly, otherwise it could descend into camp and just feel like a big budget episode of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. »
Joe Johnson Has Ideas for 'Jurassic Park 4'
Speaking to AICN about his forthcoming film The Wolfman, director Joe Johnson also talked about his other pending projects, including the long-rumored fourth installment of 'Jurassic Park'.
"Well, there is a great story for the fourth one that I would be interested in getting involved with and it's nothing like the first three," Johnson told the site. "It sort of takes the franchise off in a completely different direction, which is the only way I would want to get involved."
Johnson added that if he comes on board, he would want to make an entire new 'Jurassic Park' trilogy. And the films would not revolve around people heading back to the island.
"Why would anybody go back to that island? It was hard enough to figure out the second and third reason for them to go. But it would take it off in a whole other trilogy basically. »

The first official still from the 30 Days of Night sequel, entitled 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, as arrived online, courtesy of Ghost House Pictures, and you can check it out below.
The photo features Kiele Sanchez as Stella Oleson, the character played by Melissa George in the first film.
In the new story, it's been a year since the Alaskan town of Barrow's population was decimated by vampires during its annual month long sunset. Riddled with grief over the death of her husband, bound by nightmares, and void of all emotions beyond hate and sorrow, Stella (Sanchez) has spent the past months traveling the world, trying to convince others that vampires exist.
Met with skepticism and laughter, Stella is ready to throw in the towel when a group of lost souls (Rhys Coiro, Diora Baird, Harold Perrineau) offer an incredible opportunity: the chance to exact revenge upon Lilith (Mia Kirshner »
Video: More from Daniel Craig About Bond 23
17 hours ago
Last week, at the stage door of his Broadway plan, "A Steady Rain", Daniel Craig first revealed to fans that shooting on the 23rd James Bond film would kick off in late 2010.
Now, speaking recently on Regis & Kelly, Craig confirmed that filming will start at the end of 2010, with a 2011 release date being scheduled.
"The plan is to start shooting the next one at the end of next year," Craig said on Regis & Kelly, "so it'll be ready for 2011. We've got a lot of work to do."
Bond 23 is being written by returning Bond scribes Neal Purvis and Robert Wade, and The Queen and Frost/Nixon writer Peter Morgan. David Arnold will compose the score for this, his sixth 007 movie.
Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson will, of course, return as producers, but have yet to determine a director.

TV Science Fiction Taking a Hit in Thursday Night Time Slot
5 November 2009 9:40 PM, PST
Thursday nights may be big for science fiction on television, but viewers don't seem to be sharing the love. Fox's Fringe took a ratings nosedive; at a 23 percent loss—falling to an all time low. Fringe ratings fell 23 percent, to 5 million viewers, according to The Hollywood Reporter's Live Feed blog.
Given the World Series' previous multi-week control of that time slot, it's conceivable that viewers just weren't aware that the Jj Abrams' show was back with a new episode, however, Fringe wasn't the only series to suffer Thursday...
Supernatural's audience also fell 14 percent, ironic, given that the episode, "Changing Channels", was far and away the best of the season thus far.
Meanwhile, ABC's FlashForward — which I'm personally enjoying, despite the slow burn — suffered, too, down 4 percent overall...but perhaps not of great concern given that the network's entire lineup was down by the same percentage.
So tell us: are you still watching Fringe, »

Official Poster for 'The Wolfman' Debuts
5 November 2009 9:30 PM, PST
The official poster for director Joe Johnston's The Wolfman hit the web today. It's a nice moody splash of high contrast black and white featuring Emily Blunt, which seems to be designed to suggest the presence of the wolfman, rather than show him outright. Check it out directly below.
Based on the 1941 classic of the same name, The Wolfman tells of Lawrence Talbot (Benicio Del Toro), an actor who returns to the home of his estranged father (Anthony Hopkins) after the death of his brother. Familiar awkwardness becomes the least of his problems when he is attacked and bitten by a wolf and quickly takes on hairy, toothy qualities whenever the moon rises.
Also starring Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving, The Wolfman is set to arrive in theaters on February 12, 2010.

Clooney's 'Men Who Stare at Goats' Fun But Forgettable
5 November 2009 9:25 PM, PST
At times, The Men Who Stare at Goats seems like it could be a minor entry in the Coen brothers’ filmography. Quirky dialogue and a few Coens alumni—George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, and Stephen Root—populate the film, and it certainly veers toward the surreal. Though the movie gets a few laughs with its absurdist humor and winks at the audience, it never reaches the inspired lunacy of the Coens’ previous work, or even approaches the heights of similar war satires such as Three Kings and Catch-22.
Despite elements that make it seem more science fiction than non-fiction, the debut from actor/writer Grant Heslov is based on Jon Ronson’s factual book. Ewan McGregor employs a slightly distracting American accent to play Bob Wilton, an Ann Arbor journalist. In investigating a routine story, he interviews Gus Lacey (Root). At first, Lacey's stories about life as a psychic spy seem crazy, »

As any good superhero would, he chooses a new name — Kick-Ass — assembles a suit and mask to wear, and gets to work fighting crime. There's only one problem standing in his way: Kick-Ass has absolutely no superpowers.
His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, »
Natalie Portman's Extreme Sex Scene in 'Black Swan'
5 November 2009 9:15 PM, PST
By now most of you know that Natalie Portman will have an "ecstasy-induced hungry, aggressive, angry" sex scene with Mila Kunis in director Darren Aronofsky's forthcoming film Black Swan.
In a new interview with V magazine Portman describes it thusly: "It's not raunchy—it's extreme."
Commenting on why she was previously against getting nude on screen, Portman said: "Previously I was figuring out my own sexual identity, likes and dislikes and all that stuff, and it's weird to be doing stuff on film as you're figuring it out."
"Also, being a sexual object when you're a kid is really uncomfortable," she added.
Black Swan tells the story of a veteran ballerina (Portman) who finds herself locked in a competitive situation with a rival dancer, with the stakes and twists increasing as the dancers approach a big performance. But it's unclear whether the rival is a supernatural apparition or if »

CIA Thriller Under Development at Fox
4 November 2009 10:00 PM, PST
Probably wholly unrelated to The Men Who Stare at Goats, Fox is nevertheless developing a CIA-themed project which will contain elements of paranormal abilities on the part of agency members.
According to Variety, the untitled spy thriller centers on a division of the CIA that specializes in "remote viewing"—the ability to gather information using paranormal means.
The skein comes from writer Harris Wilkinson (Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming) and Peter Chernin's new 20th Century Fox TV-based production company.
Chernin will executive produce the drama script through his Chernin Entertainment. Katherine Pope and Lauren Stein will also executive produce, and Len Wiseman is on board to direct.
We have to admit, with Fox's track record, this sounds really exciting. Imagine the possibilities: Episodes could range wider than the typical espionage/action show, and into exotic areas such as ancient civilizations, treasure, and technology; secret society financial manipulation; human-alien conspiracy »
The 20 Sexiest Male Vampires of All Time
4 November 2009 9:55 PM, PST
Here's a list that makes me scratch my head, frankly. The website Guide To Beauty Schools has compiled a list of who they believe to be the 20 hottest male vampires ever.
Before we get to that, let me describe the problem I have with this. Vampires shouldn't be hot for hot's sake with poofy hair and eye makeup. They should be wretched, evil things, with embers for eyes and the smell of rotting fish for breath. They should scare the living daylights out of you and make you want to run and hide someplace, not head together down to the dance club, after which you follow up with a night of spooning and talking about your "feelings."
They should have a presence that is both majestic and chilling. As described in Bram Stoker's novel, "Dracula":
How he came there, I know not, but I heard his voice raised »

William Shatner Unveils Wax Statue of Captain Kirk
4 November 2009 9:40 PM, PST
William Shatner's character of James T. Kirk will likely live on for recorded history, and he recently moved one step closer to immortality yesterday when a new statue of Kirk was unveiled at Madame Tussaud’s on Hollywood Blvd.
Kirk was frozen in time as Admiral Kirk from his Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan days, apparently the preferred choice of CBS Paramount.
The flesh & blood Shatner was on hand to mark the occasion and you can watch video of the unveil directly below.
While at the event, Shatner talked briefly about the next 'Star Trek' movie, conceding openly to reporters that he's interested in it.
"I have no plans, because I don’t make those plans," he said. "Jj Abrams has my fate wrapped up in his two little hands. I would love to be in the next Star Trek, if he so thought that would be good for it. »
Zombies and Micronauts for Jj Abrams?
4 November 2009 9:35 PM, PST
Jj Abrams truly is the hottest producer in Hollywood these days, with one foot squarely in television...and the other making tracks all by itself in the feature film world. Every week, it seems, there's more announcements about projects to which he may (and in some cases may not) be attached. Here's two more:
Pajiba.com is reporting that Abrams and his production company Bad Robot are "secretly developing" a movie called "500 Rads", which will be a lower budget film ($25M) shot in Europe. There's no details on the project, but the title would seem to suggest it has something to do with radiation. Jeff Pinkner is reportedly working on the script.
The second project that Abrams' is purportedly developing is a movie based upon the Micronauts toy line. According to The Wall Street Journal, Abrams is in talks to bring the Micronauts to the big screen. Given that Hasbro »
John C. Reilly, Mary-Louise Parker Board 'Red'
4 November 2009 9:30 PM, PST
Red, the upcoming adaptation of a Wildstorm/DC Comics miniseries, just got two more cast members.
Characters actors John C. Reilly and Mary-Louise Parker have been hired to add depth to Robert Schwentke’s film, which already has Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, and Morgan Freeman on-board. Red revolves around a retired black-ops agent (played by Willis) who finds his civilian life interrupted by high-tech assassins.
Parker, who currently stars on the television show Weeds, will play the romantic love interest, a federal pension worker who gets dragged into Willis’ fight for survival, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision Blog. As for Reilly, who most recently starred in Cirque du Freak: The Vampire’s Assistant, his part has been described as a retired CIA agent who is paranoid everyone is out to kill him.
The title is currently selling at the American Film Market. »
Boyle Making Time for '127 Hours'
4 November 2009 9:25 PM, PST
Oscar-winner Danny Boyle has written a treatment for "127 Hours", based on the incredible story of mountaineer Aron Ralston, who cut off his right forearm, then climbed a 65-foot sheer wall to reach help.
According to Variety, Boyle is looking to start production on the film next year for a late 2010 release. It will be financed and distributed by Fox Searchlight, where Boyle has made his five most recent films, in partnership with Pathe.
There is a chance the project will reunite Boyle with Simon Beaufoy, who wrote the screenplay for Slumdog Millionaire, the film that won Boyle and Beaufoy Oscars earlier this year. The film took home a total of eight Oscars, including the Best Picture prize.
Boyle is now looking for an actor to play Ralston, whose right forearm got pinned under a boulder for five days during a climb in Utah in May 2003. Following the amputation, he encountered »
