Todd Phillips is currently halfway through writing the script to the sequel of the sleeper hit of the summer, The Hangover
Phillips isn’t worried about changing the venue of the sequel to a less hectic environment because, according to the director, the story’s heart remains on the characters, not the lights of Vegas.
“What people loved about The Hangover was not Las Vegas or the bachelor party but these three characters,” says Phillips. “I think you can take those characters and put them in other situations, and you don’t need the sell of Vegas and a bachelor party and all that other stuff.”
Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis are all expected to return for the follow-up. The new potential location is under wraps for now.
Phillips is also at work on the comedy Due Date starring Robert Downey Jr., Galifianakis, the lovely Michelle Monaghan, and Jaime Foxx. »

Variety has just kicked off their Awards Season series of actor-on-actor profiles, where one actor talks about how impressed or amazed they were by another actor this year. And this year there are actually some good ones, like: Ben Affleck on Jeremy Renner in The Hurt Locker, or Tom Cruise on Peter Sarsgaard in An Education, or Charlize Theron on Michelle Monaghan in Trucker, or Marcia Gay Harden on Robin Williams in World's Greatest Dad, or Martin Sheen on Hal Holbrook in That Evening Sun. I've chosen to feature a few that really deserve to be in the spotlight (like Sam Rockwell in Moon) this Awards Season so read on! First up, we have Bradley Cooper talking about Sam Rockwell in Duncan Jones' Moon (via Variety): "I love watching that guy act anyway and it was an inventive way to tell this story and to tell the story »

Things have been happening recently in the Oscar race that has my head spinning, and primarily because several films I have yet to see continue to change their status.
Just yesterday I mentioned how I forgot to add Sandra Bullock's performance from The Blind Side to the Best Actress prediction race only to have one reader remind me Marion Cotillard's performance in Nine has been moved from Supporting to Lead and Natalie Portman's performance in Brothers has moved from contention in Lead to Supporting.
I have also updated the charts by adding Maggie Gyllenhaal's Crazy Heart performance to the Best Actress charts along with Michelle Monaghan's performance in Trucker.
Now, other than The Blind Side and Trucker, I haven't seen Brother, Nine or Crazy Heart, which is a large reason these continue to escape me, but I think I have things pretty much squared away now. »

As actress Michelle Monaghan’s daughter Willow Katherine nears her first birthday, her next big milestone — walking — has been delayed by that nasty cold that’s going around. And Michelle admits she’s dealing with baby’s first bug is considerably less joyous than those much-anticipated first steps.
“Oh, God — she’s been sick for the last week and it’s been hell!” the actress — who’s gathering rave reviews for her performance as a tough mom in the indie film Trucker – told Celebrity Baby Blog. “She’s almost getting ready to walk and so we’re »

The red carpet was brimming with beautiful stars in La last night at the Hollywood Awards Gala, which is referred to as the first stop of award season. Charlize Theron was fresh off her trip to Sf and looking hot, while Kate Beckinsale was also sexy in black. Diane Kruger held down the angelic side in white, and newlywed Zooey Deschanel stuck with her standard cute look. Hilary Swank posed after her Amelia had a disappointing opening weekend, though she took home the Best Hollywood Actress statue for her work in the film. Inside the event, Sandra Bullock, Morgan Freeman and Zachary Quinto entertained the crowd from onstage. Julianne Moore had a big night, taking home Best Supporting Actress honors for her work in Tom Ford's directorial debut, A Single Man, and Bradley Cooper won the Hollywood Comedy Award. Rating: R
Release Date: October 23, 2009
Plot: A truck driver (Monaghan) begins to re-evaluate her life after her ex-husband gets cancer and she’s reunited with her 11 year old son (Bennett).
Who’S It For? Any hardcore Michelle Monaghan fans out there? Otherwise, fans of first time feature filmmakers.
Expectations: Full disclosure: I’m a big Firefly fan so I’ll see pretty much any movie with Nathan Fillion in it.
Scorecard (0-10)
Actors:
Michelle Monaghan as Diane: Best known for mediocre thrillers (Eagle Eye) and romantic comedies (Made of Honor), Monaghan attempts to get out of her box in Trucker. During a Friday visit to the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, actress and first-time mom Michelle Monaghan revealed that daughter Willow Katherine, 11 months, is “almost walking.”
Of course, it’s a woman’s prerogative to change her mind — and baby girl appears to be conflicted about whether or not mobility is something worth pursuing, however! Michelle adds,
“She’s basically getting ready to take those first steps. She’s just teasing us! She gets down and squats and makes sure we’re looking at her and then stands up and decides not to.”

Michelle Monaghan and Jimmy Bennett in Trucker
Photo: Monterey Media Picked up and added to the release schedule out of the blue, it seems the primary reason James Mottern's Trucker is making the rounds is an attempt by Monterey Media to score some award season attention for its lead star Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible III). Playing a big-rig truck driver leading a life on the road with a past that will soon come back into play, Monaghan performs well enough in the role, but to assume it's going to propel her into the Oscar race is a reach. Although it will make sure she isn't forgotten in the coming years should she continue down this path.
Monaghan plays Diane, a young and attractive truck driver we first meet in a cheap hotel room having sex with a man we don't see after the opening couple of minutes. This is the life »

Fan favorite Nathan Fillion won't be The Green Lantern, although a lot of Whedon acolytes swear he's the perfect fit (he's probably not). But while Filion is plenty busy with his ABC detective show Castle, he says there is a superhero of sorts he'd love to take the time to play.
In support of his new indie flick Trucker, which has a headline-grabbing performance by Michelle Monaghan, Fillion tells IFC about what's at the top of his wish list.
"If I had a dream project right now, I'd like to grab a hold of a superhero. There are so many superheroes out there, I feel like there's none left. But there is one I think I could handle, and that's a redo of The Greatest American Hero." »

Rookie director Oren Moverman’s The Messenger faces the same obstacle in the fall awards season as the Michelle Monaghan star vehicle Trucker. It’s one of many marginal outsider films that has to get seen before it has a chance. The movie is a stark portrait of two soldiers (Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster) who have to deliver news to families that their loved ones have died in Iraq. Not only do … »

To the uninformed, Michelle Monaghan might be little more than a recognizable face. Yet, the actress has had a strong start to her career, having appeared in several of the most successful recent movies. That’s her in The Bourne Supremacy, Mission: Impossible III, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and Eagle Eye. Nothing she’s done to this point, to resurrect the age old cliché, will prepare you for her work in Trucker. A small, subtle character study set against the vast expanse of the American West and written and directed by James Mottern, it’s the story of a tough trucker named Diane (Monaghan) who finds her independence and isolation compromised when she’s reacquainted with the son (Jimmy Bennett) she abandoned as an infant. Film School Rejects spoke to Monaghan about the deeply personal project, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2008 and is now in limited release. What »

Wasn’t “The Soloist” hilarious? Remember all those crazy scenes of Robert Downey Jr. spilling urine on himself, and Jamie Foxx acting like he might be insane? Ah, good times, good times.
Oh wait, “Soloist” was a drama? Well, now that you mention it, maybe I shouldn’t have been laughing so much. Either way, the good news is that Foxx and Downey Jr. are reuniting for a real comedy from the director of “The Hangover.” And this time, I’m pretty sure it’ll be okay to laugh.
“Yeah, it’s called ‘Due Date,’” Jamie Foxx said of the film, issuing some high praise for director Todd Phillips, who also made “Old School” a frat-house classic. “He is the funniest guy in the world.”
The flick will reunite Phillips with his “Hangover” leading man Zach Galifianakis to tell the story of a father-to-be (Downey Jr.) who is forced to »
