Simon Pegg Updates Paul

7 November 2009 2:03 PM, PST | Reelzchannel.com | See recent ReelzChannel news »

There hasn't been much word regarding Simon Pegg's newest film, Paul, about two British slackers who decide to go to Area 51 in search of aliens after a trip to Comic-Con only to discover an actual alien. There's been one still released, which doesn't really show very much, and actor Jason Bateman talked about getting a gift from his Paul co-stars, but that's about it.

Apparently, even Pegg is aware of the lack of news, because he recently offered an update to his fans in the forum of his web-site.

Hi all

Thought you might like to hear how things are going on the Paul front. It's been a while since we wrapped now and with the absence of Lance B's video blogs, I guess things must seem to have gone very quiet. Rest assured the good (space)ship Paul is progressing apace. Star Trek (2009) Blu-ray Review

6 November 2009 10:56 PM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Space. The Final Frontier. A place few were willing to venture with the last two Star Trek: The Next Generation helmed films. On virtual life support, J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot collaborators reinvented the iconic franchise into something hardened Star Trek fans and casual moviegoers without an ounce of prior interest in the series could equally digest and enjoy. His efforts carried Star Trek into a new frontier of success and riches at the 2009 box office, to a place where Paramount's treatment of the Blu-ray Disc release should . and marvelously does - fall into the esteemed category of exemplary.

Star Trek's reboot begins with a huge bang, a knockout prologue that chronicles the birth of James T. Kirk and the death of his father, a Starship Captain (for twelve minutes), all during a surprise attack by a renegade Romulan Nero (Eric Bana). Flash forward a quarter of a »

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs – DVD Review

6 November 2009 9:02 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

I’d never been introduced to the Ice Age films until this most recent outing. Oh sure, I’d heard of them and was mildly interesting in seeing the first one, but for whatever reason I never got to it. The first did receive pretty decent reviews while the second was pretty much reviled by anyone under seven. Fox still thinks there’s an appeal (or they heard the term “Strike!”) and have decided to give us a third entry in the franchise.

And I’m sure the film will play well to kids, as well it should. It’s not exactly a terrible movie, but it’s not without it’s problems either. The biggest one in my opinion stems from how unnatural the actors seem to be at times. A couple of times I felt the actors were talking “at” each other rather than “to” each other. The »

Is Dan Aykroyd Joining the Cast of Burke and Hare ?

6 November 2009 | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

The horror-comedy Burke and Hare , directed by John Landis, may have a new addition to the cast: Dan Aykroyd. Ealing Studios, represented at the American Film Market, broke the news this week. However, they stress Aykroyd's involvement is "subject to contract." If Aykroyd becomes locked, he'll join Simon Pegg, David Tennant and Bill Nighy (incredible line-up, if we do say so). Written by Piers Ashworth and Nick Moorcroft, William Burke and William Hare is based on a true story and follows two 19th-century grave robbers who find a lucrative business providing dead bodies for an Edinburgh medical school. Shooting is expected to begin in January. »

Dan Aykroyd Back With Landis For Burke and Hare

5 November 2009 12:33 PM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

When I first read that John Landis was finally coming back with a feature film after an 11 year absence, my roommate was concerned that I was having an epileptic episode. What's more, the film would bring the director back to his roots as a master of comedic horror (An American Werewolf in London has aged incredibly well) and would star one of my favorite current comedic actors in Simon Pegg. To coincide with the comeback, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Landis is bringing back one of his favorite actors as well. Dan Aykroyd, who starred in seven of Landis' previous movies, has been cast in Burke and Hare, the story of two British graverobbers/murderers who sold the bodies of their victims to a local medical school for profit. Pegg and David Tennant play the titular characters, and Bill Nighy has also been cast. It is not yet known what »

Aykroyd with Landis

5 November 2009 11:40 AM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Okay, so it's not news on a Ghostbusters reunion, but it's still pretty cool. Dan Aykroyd will join Simon Pegg and David Tennant in the upcoming Burke & Hare, which is being directed by John Landis. Aykroyd's role is not known as of yet. Oh, and Bill Nighy has been cast as well. I guess that bit of information flew under the radar. This is really starting to shape up to be something to look forward too. Given, the project had me at the team up of Pegg and Tennant, but now I'm really... »

The Yankees, Guy Fawkes Day And New Jim Lee Art In Today's Twitter Report

5 November 2009 11:01 AM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Simon Pegg tweeted an impassioned appreciation for "V for Vendetta" today in honor of Guy Fawkes Day, proving that he has not forgotten the 5th November. Also not forgetting were Jill Thompson, Neil Kleid and a few other I couldn't fit in.

Jon Favreau, it seems, didn't have time to commemorate anything last night, as he was hard at work editing "Iron Man 2." If he was following Joe Quesada or Matt Fraction, however, he probably kept up on the game's details just fine. Scope out all of those posts below, along with a new Jim Lee page and Geoff Johns' mystery project that he wants to work with Greg Rucka on.

It's all in the Twitter Report for November 5, 2009.

Zach Galifianakis To Voice Humpty Dumpty In ‘Puss In Boots’

5 November 2009 7:44 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis is certainly making a name for himself as of late: after starring in the $461 million comedy smash hit this summer, he has garnered himself a slew of roles (which is unsurprising – he was hilarious in The Hangover), the latest of which is voicing children’s nursery rhyme character, Humpty Dumpty, in the upcoming Shrek spin-off movie, Puss In Boots.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Galifianakis is in talks to voice Humpty Dumpty, and if cast he’ll be joining the voice of Puss In Boots himself, Antonio Banderas, as well as Salma Hayek who’s voicing “Kitty.” The spin-off will be written by Tom Wheeler, and will be a prequel (an origin story, we’ve heard) leading up to the feisty feline’s meeting-up with Shrek and Co. in Shrek 2.

Unseen Prequels, More Pixar Costumes And M.I.A. In Today's Twitter-Wood

3 November 2009 3:30 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Simon Pegg came a little late to the "Unseen Prequels" meme that's been bouncing around Twitter this week, but I stuck his "Star Wars" proposal along with Jon Favreau's submission up at the top of the list today just the same.

Also discovering a trend late today appears to be "Twilight" actor Peter Facinelli, who's been exploring new Bluetooth headset technology. He and his "Eclipse" director David Slade show up in the Twitter-Wood report today, as does Facinelli's co-star Alex Meraz. Check out their posts after the jump, along with some more Pixar costumes from Lee Unkrich, and an M.I.A. performance caught by Nicky Hilton during the Jimmy Choo shoe debut for H&M. It all happened in Twitter-Wood, and it's in the report for November 3, 2009.

First Trailer for The Horror Comedy ‘Tucker & Dale vs. Evil’

3 November 2009 2:30 PM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

Shaun of the Dead started a new trend of horror comedies that was once lost after the mainstream success of the Ghostbusters franchise in the late 80s. From there, films like Zombieland and Fido took the ball and ran with it. It was only a matter of time before the formula was used on something other than the zombie genre.

Enter Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, a new horror comedy in the works that puts the “teens killed by hillbillies in the woods” storyline on it’s head. The film shows what it’s like from the other end of the scale, and what if the hillbillies weren’t really all that evil.

Starring Firefly’s Alan Tudyk and Reaper’s Tyler Labine (what could become the American equivalent of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost), the film could help the genre mash-up of Horror Comedy grow some real legs, after Zombieland »

Blu-Ray Review: Third ‘Ice Age’ Sticks to Frigid Formula

3 November 2009 1:08 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – When did “gentleness” first become “unhip” in children’s films? Practically every studio in America, with the exception of Pixar, feels the need to make their “all ages” entertainment as abrasive, dumb and crude as their escapism targeted at teens and simple-minded adults. What’s the difference between a picture like “G-Force” and “Transformers”? A handful of swears and a few excessive shots of Megan Fox’s midriff. Kids movies in America can get away with endless mean-spirited gags and bathroom humor, just as long as there’s a sticky moral tacked on to the end. The “Shrek” series flourished under this principle, and so does “Ice Age.”

Blu-Ray Rating: 2.5/5.0

Yet while DreamWorks has found financial success with multiple franchises (“Shrek,” “Madagascar,” “Kung Fu Panda”), Blue Sky Studios still insists on focusing most of its moviemaking efforts on the decade-old premise of prehistoric creatures riffing through an arctic wasteland. »

Doctor Who's David Tennant takes a job practicing American law

3 November 2009 9:10 AM, PST | Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news »

David Tennant is America bound. The Scottish-born actor who's played the Tenth Doctor through four seasons of Doctor Who has accepted the lead role in a new hour-long comedy-drama NBC series called Rex is Not Your Lawyer.

In the show Tennant will play Rex Alexander, a Chicago lawyer who's at the top of his game until he begins experiencing panic attacks. Unable to appear in the courtroom now, Rex starts coaching his clients on how to represent themselves in court.

NBC has ordered a pilot for Rex and will wait and see how Tennant and the show plays before committing to any additional episodes.

Tennant has four more hours yet to be broadcast before handing over the Tardis key to Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor. Tennant's second-to-last Doctor Who two-parter, "The Waters of Mars", will be broadcast on BBC on November 15. During the Christmas season the final two-part episode will be aired. »

‘Pirate Radio’ - Nick Frost flys solo on the Boat that Rocked the UK

29 October 2009 11:34 AM, PDT | MovieSet.com | See recent MovieSet.com news »

When you see Nick Frost in films, often it’s alongside his buddy Simon Pegg in flicks like the zombie comedy ‘Shaun of the Dead,’ or action spoof ‘Hot Fuzz,’ but for his upcoming film ‘Pirate Radio,’ Frost breaks free from his comrade comfort zone to embrace a new character.

In the film, Frost plays Dr. Dave, a member of a band of rogue deejays who captivated British radio listeners in the ’60s, playing the music that defined a generation and boldly defying the government that tried to shut them down.

Nick Frost stars as 'Doctor' Dave in Richard Curtis' rock and roll comedy Pirate Radio, a Focus Features release.

“…It was good for me that I didn’t have the safety harness of being with my two best friends,” notes Frost, referring to Pegg and Wright. “And, I really had to pinch myself knowing that I have an acting »

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs + The Scrat Pack – DVD Review

DVD Review

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs + The Scrat Pack

Directed by: Carlos Saldanha, Mike Thurmeier

Cast: Ray Romano, Denis Leary, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Simon Pegg

Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins

Rating: PG

Due Out: October 27, 2009

Plot: Manny the mammoth, (Romano) Sid the megatherium, (Leguizamo) and Diego the saber-toothed tiger (Leary) are back for a third adventure that has them exploring through an underground world of dinosaurs. Along the way they meet Buckminster, (Pegg), a somewhat psychotic weasel who is set on taking down a giant beast named Rudy.

Who’S It For? Because they don’t likely have an adequate grasp on the idea of quality at a single digit age, kids will enjoy the breeziness of this movie. Parents will get a good nap in, possibly dreaming about watching an earlier Ice Age movie, or hell – or even more likely, a Pixar film.

Tennant on Burke

Update: The rumor confusion has been cleared up. Thanks to reader plkrtn, we have video of Landis stating (around the 10:10 mark) that Pegg and Tennant are both on board. Check out the whole Q&A, which is quite cool. Will David Tennant star along side Simon Pegg in Burke & Hare? The actor was never officially confirmed for the movie. [DVD Review] Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

28 October 2009 9:00 AM, PDT | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

It’s perfectly fair to ask if Ice Age’s introduction of dinosaurs shows an udder disdain for any sense of chronological integrity. The answer? Yes. Clearly that’s not the point. In fact, if you’re only now asking that question after making it through the second Ice Age movie it’s no wonder you think this series has any scientific bearing. Although, if you want to make a movie about prehistoric times without pissing off creationists and scientists what better strategy is there than ditching both sides and just going balls to the wall with nonsense? Oh, and dinosaurs. You gotta have dinosaurs. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, desperate for a new plot device, introduces a secret underground world where time stood still (and oddly temperate) allowing dinosaurs to go on living. In theaters we received a rather impressive 3D presentation, however, for Blu-ray it’s been »

Will David Tennant Do Burke & Hare

28 October 2009 2:54 AM, PDT | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Rumours have been flying around for the past couple of weeks that David Tennant – whose tenure as Dr. Who is, of course, coming to an end – was set to join Simon Pegg in John Landis’ upcoming movie about the infamous grave-robbers, Burke & Hare. So, naturally, when Tennant bounded onto the red carpet at last night’s London Film Festival screening of his new movie, Glorious 39, we asked him about his potential involvement.“Where do these things come from?” he said, shouting to be heard over the cacophony of cheers and screams from the residents of Whoville. But the sly smile and the glint in his eye indicated that the rumours are true. So, are they?“I don’t like to jinx things by talking about them before they’re done, you know what I mean? But,” he said, knowingly, “John Landis is a legend.”So, take it how you will, »

'World War Z' Author Max Brooks Shares His Favorite Halloween Zombie Flicks

27 October 2009 12:00 PM, PDT | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

For most of you, Max Brooks needs no introduction. He wrote the novel "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War," which is currently on the road to getting a big screen adaptation with Marc Forster directing a script from Matthew Michael Carnahan.

Brooks was kind enough to take some time to chat with me a few weeks ago while he was promoting the Starz Inside documentary, "Zombiemania," which you can catch replays of this week (check your local listings for times). During the interview, I had to ask for a kickass zombie movies list to run with this week's special Halloween coverage. Brooks was more than happy to oblige, and he delivered quite a list. The last one in particular blew my mind, and I welcome anyone who's seen it to write in their reviews in the comments section below or @MTVMoviesBlog on Twitter.
