Romance! Intrigue! Royalty! Politics! Assassination! Ruffles! Sideburns! What’s not to love? Don’t tell anybody -- shhh! -- but all of a sudden, between this film and Creation (both of which I’ve now seen), I suddenly have a little bit of a crush on Paul Bettany. It’s probably just the costumes, but still, it’s nice. The Young Victoria is already available on DVD in the U.K.; it opens in the U.S. on December 18. »

Having spent her summer “hiking, swimming and relaxing” in the mountains with husband Paul Bettany and the couple’s two children, Jennifer Connelly is in a good frame of mind.
The 38-year-old actress admits she struggled following the death of her father last year, but has since gotten back on track. “I’ve been trying to be very healthy, eat well and get lots of fresh air and sunshine,” she tells the UK’s Daily Mirror. “I’m very blessed. I have gorgeous, healthy, funny kids and a good husband.”
As for whether those kids — Stellan, 6, and Kai, »

Creation is the partly biographical, part fictional account of scientist Charles Darwin's relationship with his eldest daughter 'Annie', as the author struggled to document his evolutionary theories in the book On the Origin of Species. Produced by Jeremy Thomas, the film was directed by Jon Amiel, starring actors Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly as 'Charles' and 'Emma Darwin'. Screenplay is by John Collee, adapting author Randal Keynes's biography of Darwin titled Annie's Box. The film had its world premiere September 10, 2009 at the Toronto International Film Festival as the opening night Gala Presentation. According to producer Thomas, the Us was one of the last countries to find a distributor due to the prominence of the ongoing 'creation' vs. 'evolution' controversy. Newmarket Films (The Passion Of Christ), eventually acquired distribution rights to the Icon film with plans to release it December 2009. In Canada, D Films will release Creation January 22, 2010. Every so often a Hollywood celebrity will talk about quitting the business, taking time off to spend with family...or will go on late night talk shows looking disheveled and mumbling about how they're heading off on an adventure to start a musical career.
Now comes word that Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly is about to quit the biz. In an interview with the UK's Daily Mirror, Connelly revealed that after What's Wrong with Virginia? finishes shooting, she will likely not sign on for any more projects.
"The biggest thing for me is wanting my kids to grow up safely and have happy lives," said Connelly. "To me that's enough. The family is the most important thing to me. I'm very blessed. I have gorgeous, healthy, funny kids and a good husband."
Connelly's father passed away recently, prompting a very sorrowful time for the 38 year-old actress. "...I went through a really »

Myriad Pictures has announced that Amanda Crew and Adrianne Palicki (pictured) are set to co-star in Jamie Babbit’s upcoming thriller Breaking The Girl. Production is scheduled to start in Canada in 2010.
Mark Distefano and Guinevere Turner wrote the screenplay about a naive college student who falls in with a manipulative classmate who implicates her in a murder. Myriad Pictures president and CEO Kirk D’Amico said, "Amanda and Adrianne are perfectly cast as the two students who become almost more than friends before the truth about Alex is revealed. It’s sexy and scary, and we expect it to fall into the same genre category as films like Prom Night and Wild Things."
Crew most recently appeared in A Haunting in Connecticut and Final Destination 3 while Palicki has been a recurring player in The CW's "Supernatural" and will next be seen opposite Paul Bettany in Legion. Babbit's past »

“A Beautiful Mind” star Jennifer Connelly admits she has no projects lined up for when she finishes filming the upcoming movie “What’s Wrong With Virginia?” The Irish-American Oscar winner, who raises sons Kai, 12, and Stellan, 6, with actor husband Paul Bettany, said: “The biggest thing for me is wanting my kids to grow up safely and have happy lives. To me that’s enough. “The family is the most important thing to me. I’m very blessed. Fun for Wednesdays! We look at an image from an upcoming movie and write snarky, witty, or otherwise entertaining captions for it. No prizes, it’s just for fun. The Young Victoria is not amused to be weighed down with such ridiculous baubles: About the flick: Emily Blunt delivers an incredibly appealing performance as Queen Victoria in the turbulent first years of her reign. Rupert Friend portrays Prince Albert, the suitor who wins her heart and becomes her partner in one of history’s greatest romances. This love story, set amongst all the intrigue of the court, also features Paul Bettany, Miranda Richardson, Jim Broadbent, Thomas Kretschmann, and Mark Strong. Miranda Richardson will always be Edmund Blackadder’s Queenie to me. The Young Victoria is already available on DVD in the U.K.; it opens in the U.S. on December 18. Halloween weekend is looking rather bleak in the 'new theatrical releases' category. Paranormal Activity and Saw VI are already fighting it out over horror fans, and other than the behind-the-scenes look at Michael Jackson's last concert series, there are no major theatrical releases. My suggestion if you're not into Michael Jackson - check out Zombieland if you haven't already. It's suitably Halloween-ish and hysterical.

More than anything else, I responded to the performances. Feature films may be fiction, but they are certainly documentaries showing actors in front of a camera. Both Dafoe and Gainsbourg have been risk takers, as anyone working with von Trier must be. The ways they're called upon to act in this film are extraordinary. They respond without hesitation. More important, they convince. [ read more ]

I was looking forward to AMC's new take on The Prisoner but that new trailer kinda disappoints me. I can't quite put my finger on it; Maybe it's the fact that it's not on an island, or that Jim Caviezel is a bit miscast - I was rooting for Paul Bettany to step in Pat McGoohan's shoes- or it's just that such material should've been left alone. I dunno. At least they made Rover pretty much the same, a big white balloon. With no kid inside. For anyone who doesn't know the... »

The Hollywood vampire craze is leaking into comic book territory with the upcoming movie "Priest," an adaptation of the popular manga series. The film already has "Twilight" and "True Blood" credibility thanks to performances from Cam Gigandet and Stephen Moyer, but there's a sci-fi veteran is bringing a little bit of space into the movie as well.
Karl Urban, who played Dr. Leonard "Bones" McCoy in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" last summer, is set for the villainous role of Black Hat, the leader of a pack of vampires that abduct the niece of the titular warrior priest and vampire hunter played by Paul Bettany.
Urban spoke out about his involvement in the film during a recent interview with Collider, describing the film as a mixture of all sorts of genres.
"I'm currently shooting a really wicked film called 'Priest,'" Urban said. "It's this really cool, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi, »

We're ridiculously excited about Legion, wherein Paul Bettany plays the Archangel Michael, opening up a can of whoop-ass on the heavenly hosts in order to safeguard humanity from a vengeful God. And our excitement has only increased with these rather nice new character banners over on JoBlo.com.Here we get Paul Bettany as Michael and Kevin Durrand as bad guy (insofar as that's possible for an archangel) Gabriel. Also present and correct are the human also-rans: Dennis Quaid's Bob Hanson, Lucas Black's Jeep Hanson, Tyrese Gibson as Kyle Williams and Adrianne Palicki as Charlie, the pregnant waitress whose unborn child is the Second Coming and the only being that can save the world. Click the image above for the full gallery on JoBlo.com Legion is out on March 5, 2010, which by our count is not nearly soon enough. »

This past weekend, Spike TV held their annual Scream Awards (more on that later today), at the event the folks at Collider got the chance to talk to “Star Trek” and “Priest” actor, Karl Urban. The obvious topic on their fanboy lips was of course, Star Trek 2.
Urban starred in this year’s J.J. Abrams-directed Star Trek as Leonard “Bones” McCoy, so who better to ask about part 2 right? According to Collider:
Urban said “It would be great to have another Star Trek out for 2011.” He explained a script is in the works and that co-writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman expect a draft to be completed by December. As far as details are concerned, Urban is just as anxious to see where the second film will take the crew of the USS Enterprise as we are.
Well I’m glad to hear it! Given the fan reaction »
