New Posters for The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus and The Slammin’ Salmon

2 hours ago | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The Us Poster for Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus has finally arrived and it’s…not bad.  I guess when you see a movie with Imaginarium in the title, you expect it to be more imaginative, like this poster.  It’s no big deal but it does continue the campaign to make Heath Ledger the focal point of the film.  I don’t want to say it’s getting borderline-crass but it as at the point where I’m expecting the tagline “Heath Ledger’s Last Film Ever!”

Still, it’s better than the first poster for Broken Lizard’s upcoming film The Slammin’ Salmon.  Granted, there’s never been a spectacular poster for a Broken Lizard film.  In fact, they all seem to look like the same folks who design the covers of direct-to-video comedies.  Bl’s movies certainly have broad humor but I feel like »

American Dr. Parnassus Poster Focuses On Ledger

2 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

There are so many visuals captured in The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, so many different worlds and characters and costumes, that it would be flat impossible to capture all of them on a single poster. Still, they probably could have tried a little harder than they did with the new American poster, which just debuted over at Slashfilm. Yes, it's wise to put the focus on Heath Ledger, who is just as vibrant and energetic in his final role in the film as he appears on the poster. And the mirror opening up into a brightly colored world nicely suggests the surreal fairyland that Ledger's character enters (in which he turns into Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell as well). But the poster is also suggesting that there's a romance between Ledger's and Lily Cole's character, which isn't quite right, and also relegates Christopher Plummer and Tom Waits, »

New Imaginarium poster

8 hours ago | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

If you think your wall is missing what could best be described as Lewis Carroll getting into a fistfight with Salvador Dali as recorded on film by Terry Gilliam, this new poster for The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus (via Slashfilm) just may be for you. The U.S. poster aims to capture what Americans will surely love most about it, namely Heath Ledger being alive and well, but really, why did they make his eyes closed? Creeptastic. The rest of the cast is featuring in a tiny string of... »

A New Batch of 'Doctor Parnassus' Character Posters

18 hours ago | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

After nearly two years, we'll finally get to see Heath Ledger's final performance in Terry Gilliam's Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus on December 25th. To fill the role left incomplete following Ledger's death, Gilliam hired - as you know by now - Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law, this giving Law two films opening on the same day (along with Sherlock Holmes).

There's a new set of Korean posters for Parnassus from Imp Awards, and while I would think Gilliam's films in general play better in Europe than they do here, I don't know if that would hold true in Asian countries. Incidentally, the movie's already made $12 million in Europe, about half of that in Italy. But clearly, we're not seeing a slew of character posters in the Us, so this might be a much bigger deal in South Korea.

In addition to Ledger and his three replacements, »

Check out new korean posters for the upcoming film "The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus" starring Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is a fantastical morality tale, set in the present day. It tells the story of Dr Parnassus and his extraordinary 'Imaginarium', a travelling show where members of the audience get an irresistible opportunity to choose between light and joy or darkness and gloom. Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Dr Parnassus is cursed with a dark secret. Long ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr Nick, in which he won immortality. Many centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition... »

Lily Cole on Marilyn Manson's 'Phantasmagoria'

5 November 2009 2:00 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Lily Cole isn't a household name in America, but in her native England she's achieved big success as a model (The Sunday Times ranked her the 77th richest young person in Britain). And she's begun turning that success into an acting career. I caught up the redheaded stunner this week in Beverly Hills at the press junket for Terry Gilliam's new The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, in which she plays Valentina, the long-suffering daughter of Christopher Plummer's titular Doctor, opposite Heath Ledger in his final screen performance. She's next set to star in something considerably darker – Marilyn Manson's feature film directorial debut, Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll. Read what she told us... »

"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" was Heath Ledger's final film, and co-star Verne Troyer has only positive things to say about being on set with the fallen star.

"I feel so honored and privileged to be a part of the film," Troyer told "Extra" at the AFI Fest screening of the fantasy film. "Being able to work with Heath was one of the greatest things that I've ever gotten to be able to do. »

AFI La 09: Review of The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus

Year: 2009

Directors: Terry Gilliam

Writers: Terry Gilliam & Charles McKeown

Trailer: link

Review by: Hal MacDermot

Rating: 7 out of 10

Terry Gilliam’s latest movie is a tribute to his wonderfully creative and absurd imagination, and it’s also the last film of the late, great Heath Ledger, who died during production. With Gilliam on the verge of quitting, Heath’s friends in the shape of Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell stepped into the breach and saved the day. Imaginarium is ambitious with flashes of genius, but the individual parts are greater than the whole. When Gilliam is in full-on Time Bandit absurd mode I loved it, but in the bigger picture, the exploration of imagination, lust and the path to salvation, I wasn’t convinced. This is a movie with the Gilliam visual stamp, and you should try and see it on the big screen.

Heath Ledger Receives Tribute for Final Performance

4 November 2009 3:54 PM, PST | Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news »

While his performance in The Dark Knight earned Heath Ledger a posthumous Oscar, it won’t have the distinction of being the last movie to star the late actor.

On December 25th, audiences will be able to see Ledger on screen one last time in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Ledger’s death came during the filming of the movie, and caused production on the film to be temporarily put on hold.

At the recent premiere of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Ledger was lauded by the film’s director, Terry Gilliam, who addressed going forward with the movie without Ledger’s presence.

Gilliam’s interview speaks very openly about the impact of Ledger on the cast and crew, and speaks highly of the actor saying, “We weren’t going to let Heath’s last work just disappear.”

And thank goodness for that.

Commercial spoofs take shots at DirecTV's Chris Farley spot

4 November 2009 2:02 PM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Controversy raged last weekend as fans and media types reacted to a new DirecTV ad using the late Chris Farley in scenes from Tommy Boy. Now, some aggressive YouTubers are taking their shot at offending some people (with DirecTV execs at the top of the list).

The original ad featured a live action David Spade discussing DirecTV against Farley's antics from Tommy Boy. While Spade insisted Farley wouldn't mind, a lot of his fans took offense to using a dead man to hawk a product.

But the video below, from a YouTube page, The Landline, lights up the satellite TV provider with an edgy send-up of the "dead talk cash" stunt with faked DirecTV ads featuring a pseudo Heath Ledger, John F. Kennedy, and someone else you'll recognize.

There's a conspiracy theory floating around that this is actually clever viral marketing from DirecTV itself -- since no publicity is bad publicity. »

Merchandise swag: Batman logo cufflinks

4 November 2009 5:02 AM, PST | Boxwish.com | See recent BoxWish news »

Emulating the grungy green and purple style of The Joker (Heath Ledger) is a logical and widespread choice come Halloween. Yet when it comes to year-long fashions, the clown prince of Gotham leaves a lot to be desired, good job then that we have Bruce Wayne/ Batman. Christian Bale’s masked crimefighter manages to look good, whether in his day mode as the polished playboy in made-to-measure Armani suits and Belstaff or at night, cleaning up the streets in his sleek Batsuit care of Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman). And despite Bruce’s togs being very expensive and Batman’s a little impractical (would you want to pop to the shops in a cape?), we’ve found a way to show some love for the superhero in your smart stylings – Batman logo cufflinks. »

Which Villain Do You Want To See In 'Batman 3'?

3 November 2009 4:08 PM, PST | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Okay, so we haven't even received official word that there will be a third movie in Christopher Nolan's "Batman" franchise, but that doesn't mean we can't speculate about the characters we'd like to see in the film if it ever gets made.

When it comes to the Batman movies, there's a long—and some might say sordid—history of jam-packing greater numbers of villains into each installment. However, with the passing of Heath Ledger last year, the most prominent prospect for the next installment's villain suddenly (and tragically) became an impossibility. The question now becomes: will Nolan go for a returning character or someone entirely new if/when he tackles the Dark Knight next?

I've compiled a list of some of the characters whose names have popped up when discussing potential villains for the third "Batman" movie—from legitimate contenders to the stuff of rumors. Now's your chance to »

Check Out Heath Ledger's Final Work of Art

What may Heath Ledger's last work of art has hit the Internet.

Shortly before his death in January 2008. Ledger directed the video for "Cause An Effect," a song from Australian rapper N'fa (a k a No Fixed Abode). The actor and N'fa were childhood friends; the video was shot in Ledger's Australian garage.

“Every day I count my blessings that he directed this piece of art,” N’fa said in a statement. “It was a song I was proud to have written but I never expected to have such an immense video made for it. I’d kn... »

Wait, Now Heath Ledger Has a DirecTV Commercial?

2 November 2009 1:02 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

If you've been watching playoff baseball these past few weeks, you've probably come across the Tommy Boy DirecTV commercial about, say, 176,000 times. About a week after it began airing, the satellite television company came under fire for a second time for airing parody commercials featuring actors or actresses who died tragically at a young age. The first was a commercial featuring Poltergeist actress Heather O'Rourke, and now folks are really pissed DirecTV is using Chris Farley in a commercial that stars David Spade (who reprises his character from Tommy Boy in a parody of the "Fat Guy in a Little Coat" scene).

If you want my personal opinion, I think DirecTV does this sort of stuff on purpose -- claiming to be "celebrating" the life of a dead celebrity, though what they're really hoping for is that people like us (and several other sites) will give them a bunch of »

Heath Ledger’s DirecTV Commercial

2 November 2009 11:48 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Last week the online world threw a big fuss over DirecTV's newest television advertisement, which features David Spade pimping the satellite service in an altered scene from Tommy Boy, which of course includes his dead friend, comedian Chris Farley. And you may remember, this isn't the first time DirecTV has been accused of profiting off of the dead, as they came under fire last year for the same thing, with a similar ad altering Poltergeist, featuring Heather O'Rourke, an actress who died tragically in 1988 at age 12. When is this disgusting trend going to end? LandlineTV have created a faux DirecTV commercial showing where these tasteless advertising stunts might lead if we don't put a stop to it now -- that's right... Heath Ledger plugs DirecTV in a digitally altered scene from The Dark Knight. And it doesn't end there... Landline has also produced a couple more DirecTV commercials featuring John »

So many of you "strongly disagreed" with me when I said that I thought the recent Farley/Spade DirecTV commercial was in poor taste. I'm not trying to reopen that debate per se, but I did say in my article, “What’s next, freaking Christian Bale selling a DVR while bashing Heath Ledger’s face in during the Dark Knight’s interrogation scene?” Well someone over at Landline TV had the same thought as me, and they’ve... »
