It’s getting colder and darker every day (at least in my part of the world), so it’s certainly time to curl up on the couch with some apple cider and some great TV, or at least that’s what I’ll be doing! While November brings us very few new TV shows, this month’s edition of Cortney’s TV Digest will let you know everything that’s going on with your favorite shows, no matter if they just premiered or have been with us for awhile.
V
A reimagining of the 80’s classic TV mini-series, V tells the tale of aliens who have landed on Earth in peace, but secretly have sinister motives. Starring Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Elizabeth Mitchell, and Scott Wolf, V premiered November 3rd to big ratings and will run for four weeks.
It will then go on hiatus, returning in March 2010 to finish the season. »

We have posted the photos and the promo video for the November 10 episode of V, but ABC has now released photos and a synopsis for the November 17 episode. The aliens are invading! Well, with travel visas. But that sounds less scary and I was going for the shock factor.
Check out the photo below of Scott Wolf, looking off into the distance. It's almost like it could be his presidential portrait.

The "visitors" are back -- with a vengeance. ABC's remake of V, the NBC mini-series and show of the same name, kicked off (and kicked butt) last night. The numbers look really good but, most importantly, will they last.
The current incarnation of V begins as spaceships appear in the skies over 29 international cities and a benevolent leader, Anna (Morena Baccarin), tells the people of Earth that they come in peace. Several humans doubt the aliens' sincerity and FBI agent Erica Evans (Elizabeth Mitchell) learns that the aliens have been among us for years, infiltrating governments and businesses. The series also stars Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Logan Huffman, Lourdes Benedicto, Laura Vandervoort, and Scott Wolf.
The new V pilot has gotten some mixed reviews but any negativity didn't seem to discourage TV viewers from giving the show a try. Last night, the premiere »

The original 1983 miniseries V is a tense, slow-building piece of science fiction that showed the creation of a fascist movement in the United States by the alien Visitors.
An allegory for the creation of the Nazi movement, the original V portrays humanity becoming divided by propaganda with some choosing to collaborate with the alien regime and others forming underground resistance cells. Rightly acknowledged as a classic of the genre, expectations have been high for this new "reimagining" that premiered on ABC this week.
On the surface much remains the same between remake and source. Both share the arrival of alien Visitors, promising technological salvation to humanity's problems. Each explores how the media can be manipulated to spread propaganda, why some choose to collaborate and how resistance movements come into being.
Where this reimagining departs from the original concept is in aspects of its execution such as its lightning-quick pacing, topical »

The aliens have landed! The Visitors hit ABC tonight, and while they are most certainly gorgeous, they are up to no good. Based on the 1980s TV event of the same name, V is about what happens when reptilian aliens land on Earth and start brainwashing our impressionable youngsters with their utopian promises. Starring Elizabeth Mitchell, Morris Chestnut, Joel Gretsch, Scott Wolf, Morena Baccarin, Alan Tudyk and Laura Vandervoort, the series will air four episodes this November, and then return in January as a continuing series. Will you be back this winter to buy more of what the Visitors are selling, or do you remain unimpressed? »

Ever since the original V TV miniseries hit the airwaves in 1983 (you can trust me, I was there ;-P), the letter v has been working it’s way up the ladder in popularity. After all, before that, all v really had to its name was V-Day and a crappy holiday where you try to see how many cavities you can give the object of your affection in one day.
It’s had some pretty stiff competition, though. A-f have always seemed to be pretty popular in the school grading system, while N and Y have made their fame through surveys. The most notorious letter of all, though, has to be X. After all, everything is cooler with an X!
As mentioned before, the letter v seems to be gaining more and more popularity. It helped spawn two V miniseries in the early 80s, followed by a TV show in the »

ABC's reboot of Kenneth Johnson's '80s miniseries V (which originally aired on NBC) debuted last night, and for the most part, it was pretty entertaining.
In less than an hour, writer/exec producer Scott Peters (The 4400) sets up the gambit—visitors from another planet who come to Earth in search of natural resources, promising peace and prosperity, and quickly polarize humanity into those who are taken in by the Visitors' claims of benevolence, and those who immediately distrust them.
Whether wisely or not, Peters chose to be very economical with time and got things off to a blistering start. Consequently, the entire setup happens within the first installment. Unlike the original '80s show, which took more time to reveal the Visitors' true nature, the new series took us from arrival, to suspicion, to resistance, to revelation about the aliens' reptilian nature, all in the first episode. »

Episode Title: "Pilot"
Written By: Scott Peters (teleplay) & Kenneth Johnson (story)
Synopsis: Men, women and children all around the world are shocked and awed by the sudden arrival of the Visitors, an alien race that appears throughout Earth by way of massive hovercrafts. The various ships all echo the same projected message from Anna (Morena Baccarin), the leader of the V's: "We are of peace, always."
But discoveries over the course of the next several weeks lead some to realize that the Visitors do not come in peace, nor is their arrival as sudden as most people think — indeed, the Visitors have been among us for quite some time, and their intentions are anything but peaceful.
Plot/Pacing: Alien invasions are commonplace in the realm of science fiction, so it's really more a question of execution than it is originality. In the case of "V," I thought the pilot worked »

At some point, both Warner Bros. Television and ABC will be happy with who is leading its new series "V." After holding the reins for just a single episode, Warner Bros. has removed "The 4400" executive producer Scott Peters from the showrunner position on "V" and replaced him with Scott Rosenbaum. This is the second change at the top spot since production started on "V," which stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut and Scott Wolf. The pilot episode, which aired tonight on ABC, was done under the leadership of Jeff Bell. After Peters was given showrunner responsibilities, Bell -- who had worked on other shows such as "Harper's Island," "Alias" and "Angel" -- remained in an executive producer role following the change. However, with Rosenbaum coming on board, Bell ... »

Chicago – Reboots of classic TV programs have been a tough sell lately as shows like “Bionic Woman” and “Knight Rider” have failed to connect with critics or audiences. The long-in-the-works reboot of “V” feels like a more appropriate and timely attempt to rekindle a dead franchise, as the depressing state of the world seems downright in need of an alien savior. With only one episode available for critics, it’s too soon to tell whether or not “V” will suffer the same fate as its recent remake brethren or if it will rise above and be another feather in the cap of a network that has been creatively rejunevated with shows like “Modern Family” and “FlashForward”. The premiere is deeply flawed but there’s reason to believe “V” could be a hit.
Television Rating: 3.5/5.0

Just a quick reminder to be sure to set your DVRs (or, hell, tune in live!) to the series premiere of ABC's V tonight. Based on the classic 1980s sci-fi miniseries, V boasts an amazing cast that includes Elizabeth Mitchell, Joel Gretsch, Morris Chestnut, Scott Wolf, Morena Baccarin, and many others. But you needn't have watched any of the classic V in order to understand the intricacies of this new reimaginating. You can read my advance review of the pilot episode for V (written back in May) as well as my interview over at the Los Angeles Times/Show Tracker with series lead Elizabeth Mitchell about her character Erica Evans and what's coming up on the series, which will air four episodes this month before returning after the Olympics with nine additional installments. V launches tonight at 8 pm Et/Pt on ABC.

"V" premieres Tuesday at 8 p.m. Et, and although it's getting a start just in time for November sweeps, no one seems to care about the timing. But they do care about this new show starring Elizabeth Mitchell ("Lost"), Morena Baccarin ("Firefly"), Morris Chestnut and Scott Wolf. Here is a sampling of what critics are saying about Tuesday's episode. "Mitchell has never had a part so rich, one that allows her to play smart, sarcastic, tough and vulnerable," said Mark A. Perigard of The Boston Herald (review). "With her perpetually gleaming eyes, Baccarin is wonderfully otherworldly, and suggests a streak of malevolence." But the shows does have a few quirks, Perigard said. "As the hour progresses, there are a couple of smart twists," he said. "One quibble with the remake is that ... »

ABC has released the first eight minutes of the first episode of the reimagined V, set for broadcast on November 3.
The new V follows the storyline of the 1980s original where a seemingly benevolent alien race arrives in gigantic flying saucers and offers us their friendship and technology in exchange for help for their world. However, the new V has a different slate of characters to it including the main one, FBI agent Erica Evans (played by Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell.) Evans uncovers signs that point to a secret agenda behind the Visitors, one that will mark the end of humanity if it's allowed to unfold to its fruition. Morena Baccarin (Firefly) plays Anna, the Visitors' leader, Morris Chestnut (The Cave) is Ryan Nichols, Joel Gretsch (The 4400) is Father Jack and Scott Wolf (Party of Five) is Chad Decker, an ambitious television news personality.

ABC, which is known to be generous in giving a lengthy sneak peek to its new shows, has given out the one for "V". A remake of 1983 sci fi series, "V" is the latest new show that the Alphabet will debut this Fall. It stars Elizabeth Mitchell, Morena Baccarin, Morris Chestnut and Joel Gretsch among others.
Generally, "V" is a reference to the Visitors aka aliens who suddenly pop up on Earth one morning with the promise to no harm and medical as well as technological breakthroughs for Earthlings. The catch is, they are lying.
Homeland Security agent Erica Evans finds out that the aliens are plotting a scheme to infiltrate the governments and take control of mankind. But convincing the others that there are sinister plans undergoing would not be so easy because the aliens have been capturing the humans' trust with their gifts.

Earlier we brought you promo photos from episode 1×02 of V and now ABC has released the first 8 minutes of the show, which we have for you below.
In the video below you'll be introduced to each of the main characters and then see the V spaceship first appear over New York City. They jump right into the action on this show. I've seen the entire pilot and I really enjoyed it. I haven't seen the original V series, but I'm liking the reboot.
Here's the official show description:
"V" is a re-imagining of the 1980's miniseries about the world's first encounter with an alien race. Simultaneously appearing over every major city in the world, the Visitors (or V's) promote a message of peace. Through their generous offer to share advanced technology, the V's build a following that may actually hide a more malevolent agenda, one that twists a very deep component of human nature: devotion. »

By now you may have already heard that ABC plans to keep its viewers focused on aliens by directing their eyes skyward—the network is utilizing a skywriting campaign for its V series.
The series, which kicks off on November 3, is an update of the 1980s' miniseries in which massive spaceships simultaneously appear over 29 cities around the world, where the Visitors (or Vs) seemly promote a message of peace. The Vs are generous, offering to share their advanced technology, but eventually turn out to be not quite as advertised.
Twenty-two different skywriting messages will display the big red V in the skies of 15 different major metropolitan cities in the United States. The campaign will run from Oct. 23 through Nov. 3.
The cities in the campaign include New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Seattle, Orlando, Philadelphia, Tempe, Atlanta, Dallas, Austin and Las Vegas.
