What’s Next For Nolan?

28 August 2008 12:09 AM, PDT | From The Entertainment Zone | See recent The Entertainment Zone news

Ok, I'm seeing all kinds of rumors floating around cyberspace these days regarding the future of the Batman franchise with Christopher Nolan at the helm. So, let's set a few things straight and I'd love to hear some of your opinions as well! With The Dark Knight closing in on $500 mill. Us gross, Christopher Nolan has most definitely proven himself! Even if there were some who just didn't like or didn't get "Memento", "The Prestige" or "Insomnia"... some of my favorite movies of all time, by the way! I Love a Mind F*&K Flick!!!!! But, I don't think many people can argue his talent with the success of The Dark Knight! Dark, gritty, bold, beautiful... you don't even want me to go into full 'review mode', because I could ramble on forever about how great this movie was! The question of the day...is... what will he do next?

Opening This Week: Vin Diesel saves the world, Takashi Miike goes west

25 August 2008 8:09 AM, PDT | From ifc.com | See recent IFC news

By Neil Pedley

This week's new films include the Western going Eastern, a couple of exotic music docs, Cinderella stories for girls and for boys and Vin Diesel attempting to walk, chew gum and shoot people -- all at the same time.

"Babylon A.D."

Second chances all around in this stylish cyberpunk romp that sees "La Haine" director Mathieu Kassovitz take another bite at the mainstream cherry after stumbling with his last detour into Hollywood, the Halle Berry clunker "Gothika." Vin Diesel, who passed on "Hitman" for this, also gets another shot at a potential franchise after eliciting a collective yawn with his Neo-lite performance in "The Chronicles of Riddick." After a troubled shoot fraught with budget overruns and uncooperative weather, Diesel has the bigger challenge on his hands as Toorop, a mercenary charged with trying to save the world with a snowboard while escorting a genetically altered young woman

Batman Rumor #34: Cher to Play Catwoman

25 August 2008 1:55 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

When you're the biggest movie in a decade like The Dark Knight is and you're tailor made for making a splash with your casting the way its eventual follow-up is, it's not surprising that we're hearing lots of theories on the next Batman movie, which for the sake of editorial consistency, we'll call The Dark Knight Returns until something else comes along.

We've heard The Riddler, Catwoman, and The Penguin, none of which I'm inclined to believe just yet, if only because they feel like played out characters. We've also heard a few supposed casting rumblings, but nothing quite like this: Cher as Catwoman?

The Telegraph cites a "studio executive" who says, "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to her to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years." The source adds, "The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's purring creations.

Catwoman Rumours Turn To Cher

24 August 2008 4:41 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Veteran singer Cher has become the latest star tipped to take on the role of Catwoman in a forthcoming Batman movie.

Angelina Jolie is also rumoured to be in the running for the part, if The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan decides to resurrect the legendary comic book character.

And the moviemaker is reportedly now turning his eye to older actresses, including 62-year-old Cher - in a bid to portray Catwoman as an ageing femme fatale.

A source tells British newspaper the Sunday Mirror, "Cher is Nolan's first choice to play Catwoman. He wants to portray her like a vamp in her twilight years. The new Catwoman will be the absolute opposite of Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry's creations."

Julie Newmar was the first actress to take on the role in the 1960s Batman television series. The supervillainess has also been played by Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriwether, Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.

Actress Ursula Andress' iconic beach scene in 007 movie Dr. No has been voted the most inspirational bikini moment in a new poll.

Angelina Jolie as Catwoman?

30 July 2008 2:57 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

In the considerable wake of The Dark Knight, Batman casting was a big topic here last week; we received a couple hundred comments on what villains should and shouldn't be in the third Batman movie. If they can't make a Two-Face story stick, then I vote for Black Mask, a terrific, sinister bad guy who fits the current look and concept of Gotham City. He's not the biggest name in town, true, but then again, Ra's al Guhl?

It didn't take long for the rumors to start flying about possible villains and possible casting choices. Here's one rumor that, much like Johnny Depp as The Mad Hatter, has that feeling of being too good to be true: Angelina Jolie as Catwoman.

For a number of reasons, I don't think we'll see Catwoman in a Christopher Nolan Batman movie and I don't buy that there's much to this rumor. To begin with,

Jolie Tipped For Catwoman Role

Hollywood beauty Angelina Jolie has been tipped to play Catwoman in a future Batman movie - by the actress who made the role famous, Julie Newmar.

Newmar, 74, prowled across the small screen, playing the feline villain in the 1960s Batman television series.

And she would love Jolie to take on the role - if The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan decides to resurrect the character in a future sequel.

Newmar tells the New York Daily News, "Angelina would own the part. My industry friends tell me (she) has made inquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Catwoman is Batman's one true love. She's tremendously popular with women because she's both a heroine and a villainess."

This Week At The Alamo: The Alamo Guide for July 25

25 July 2008 12:44 PM, PDT | From OriginalAlamo.com | See recent AlamoDrafthouseCinema news

Last week, Salon ran an essay by some woman who doesn't like summer. She gets all whiny about "feeling this pressure to go out and enjoy myself." Wtf? That's why summer Rules! You can go out and spend the day in the sun, cool off by breaking into a nearby apartment complex's pool, then spend the night watching the biggest and most explosive movies of the year!

What more could you possibly want out of a season than Will Ferrell comedies (Step Brothers opens this week at the Village!), superhero movies (The Dark Night and Hancock are still saving the day at the Ritz, Lamar, and Village), and a little bit of light summer fun to wash it all down with (if you haven't seen Mamma Mia! at Lamar yet, you owe it to yourself)?

Summer is perfect. Especially *this* summer. Keep drinking it in.

Halle Berry has lashed out at a paparazzo she claims wandered onto private property to get shots of the actress and her baby.

Berry flew into a rage when she saw the pictures on the Internet and in two celebrity magazines, and has refuted claims the shots were taken while she was "out and about in Los Angeles."

Her attorney, Evan Spiegel, has filed a criminal complaint and an investigation is reportedly underway.

Spiegel claims he has witnesses who saw the photographers conducting a "very blatant and invasive trespass."

Berry's Tribute To Cheadle

Halle Berry paid a bizarre glowing tribute to actor pal Don Cheadle at the Spirit of Independence Awards on Sunday - revealing his love of ironing, golf, Tai Chi, and cartoons.

Berry presented Cheadle with the prize at the event, part of the Los Angeles Film Festival, and regaled the star-studded audience with some personal information about the Ocean's Eleven actor.

She said, "I'm here to tell you tonight what you don't know about Don Cheadle. He loves to iron. He loves to iron so much he went and got one of those steamers, like a professional steamer.

"Don has a putting green in his backyard that he built so he can just putt, putt, putt, putt, putt and much to (wife) Bridget's dismay, he's always out there putting.

"Ladies might want to know how Don keeps his sexy figure - 'cause he's hot, he's kinda got a sexy thing going on. He does Tai Chi every morning, or every other morning."

She added, "Don is a funny, funny man in life and in movies he's really funny. You know what makes him laugh? Any Pixar film. I don't know what that says about him other than he has not been able to give up cartoons."

She concluded her speech with the tribute: "Don, I want you to know that I admire you, I respect you. Your heart is one of the biggest of anybody, not only in this town, but anybody that I know and I'm honoured to call you my friend."

Cheadle succeeds actor-turned-director Clint Eastwood, who won the award in 2007.
