Trailer - The Remake of 'Death at a Funeral'

23 hours ago | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

Death at a Funeral is one of the best British farces in a long time. Please rent it. When I heard they were remaking it, and that the "they" involved the movie-murdering talents of Chris Rock and Martin Lawrence, I was deeply concerned. Oh, Rock's very funny...just not in movies.

My concern is assuaged somewhat by the first trailer for the new version of Death at a Funeral. It looks as similar to the original as it can, right down to casting Peter Dinklage to reprise his role as what can only be deemed "the worst-case scenario." Of course, worst-case scenarios are how British farces butter their bread, which is one reason I wasn't sure what we'd be getting here. But the trailer is pretty entertaining, all things considered.

Rock and Lawrence are joined by Tracy Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Danny Glover, and James Marsden. Check it out: »

Death at a Funeral Trailer

5 December 2009 4:56 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The unnecessary and unwanted remake of the great 2007 British Comedy Death at a Funeral is coming out in a matter of months and the first official trailer for the movie was recently released online.

Frank Oz directed the British version which starred Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice, Frost/Nixon) as the main character. This remake, or re-enactment as I would call it, is brought to us by (and stars) Chris Rock.

In an age when moviegoers are drowning in remakes, reboots and re-imaginings of established properties and brands, this movie sadly only comes partially as a surprise -- the project began less than a year after the UK version released. That being said, there are remakes, and then there are complete copies. Check out the trailer below.

This version of Death at a Funeral stars Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, Danny Glover, James Marsden, Luke Wilson, Martin Lawrence, Peter Dinklage, Tracy Morgan and Ron Glass. »

'Death at a Funeral' Trailer Causes Death to Fun

5 December 2009 2:03 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Oh, Screen Gems, Screen Gems, Screen Gems. You guys just can't crank 'em out fast enough, huh? Last year, you managed to be in the process of remaking [Rec] while it was still making the festival rounds, and this year, we see the trailer for next year's more multi-cultural remake of 2007's Death at a Funeral. (It's after the jump.)

Neil Labute of Lakeview Terrace fame replaces Frank Oz to direct a cast that includes Chris Rock, Danny Glover, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Columbus Short, and a handful of white people - including James Marsden in Alan Tudyk's under-the-influence funeral guest role (inspired casting, I'll admit) and Peter Dinklage in the part last played by... Peter Dinklage. Hell, even the same screenwriter is credited, because the screenplay would appear to be almost identical, save for a few more race-related remarks.

Far be it from me to judge from just two minutes, »

Death at a Funeral Trailer: Could Be Ok, But It’s Not the Same

5 December 2009 10:24 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

There's something to be said about remakes, I know. And over the course of the nearly 4-year existence of Film School Rejects, we've said a lot about them. Overall, the sentiment we all seem to feel is a negative one. We question whether Hollywood is even interested in having original ideas, and celebrate those rare movies that aren't derived from something made in another time. But rarely do we see such a quick turnaround on a remake (outside the horror genre) as we do with Neil Labute's Death at a Funeral. The original Death at a Funeral, directed by Frank Oz, starred Brit Matthew McFayden as a man who dealing with the death of his father by trying to wrangle together his hysterical mother, his playboy brother (Rupert Graves) and a host of ridiculous guests. This included, oddly enough, a hilariously drugged Alan Tudyk getting naked and ending up on the roof and a mysterious little »

Chris Rock's Death at a Funeral Urban Remake Trailer Debut

4 December 2009 5:00 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Okay, I'm admittedly a little bias. Death at a Funeral, the original Frank Oz version, is one of my favorite comedies. I was one of the first people to see it at its world premiere and supported it all the way through its release. Somehow, Chris Rock got his hands on the remake rights, and in no time whipped out a terrible remake. So here we have the "urban" version of Death at a Funeral starring Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Danny Glover, James Marsden, Luke Wilson, and the beautiful Zoe Saldana. The only funny part about this is that they re-used Peter Dinklage, who starred in the original, in the same exact role again. Missed My Name Is Earl? Time to atone

4 December 2009 6:44 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

The karma-fuelled comedy My Name Is Earl is getting daily repeats on E4 – and there are plenty of reasons to catch up

My Name Is Earl is back. No, they're not making any new episodes – although one never knows with Us TV – but Earl is getting repeated, daily on E4 from tonight, which is good news for the many fans of the show and even better news for those who somehow eluded its charms over its 96-episode run.

When Earl first hit in 2005, it hit big. Impressive ratings in the States earned it a decent, prominent slot in the schedules here – unlike, say, the massively underrated and still brilliant King Of The Hill. The story of a man with a huge list of misdeeds to atone for, Earl hit its stride almost immediately. The karma-fuelled plotlines twisted and turned while exploring the locale of Camden County and its colourful denizens. »

MPAA Rating: PG-13 - for intense disaster sequences and some language

Imagine that!  Roland Emmerich did another epic end-of-the-world flick, starring semi-respectable actors, and boasting a huge budget!  Doesn't this schtick get old Mr. Emmerich?

2012 features a paper thin plot about crazy solar flares in the few years leading up to the year 2012 that somehow turn the neutrinos in the Earth's core into microwaves that slowly, but steadily start heating up the planet.  This results in earthquakes, tsunamis, sink-holes and other natural disasters.  It's all pretty dehumanized until these things start to affect Jackson (John Cusack) and Kate (Amanda Peet), a divorced couple with two kids.  Oh, Chiwetel Ejiofor plays a bleeding heart, government geologist who advises the president (Danny Glover) on all this, and eventually (spoiler alert! »

Both Matt and Josh are producers of the project that features Danny Glover, and John Krasinski made a late, low-key entrance to pose for photos before heading inside. Emily Blunt was there for the afterparty, lending her support to both her fiance John and her The Adjustment Bureau costar Matt. We had a chance to chat with Josh, who said working with Matt is easy and fun - and they're also set to star together in an upcoming Coen brothers film. Matt, meanwhile, said history is a big hit with his girls at home, though his youngest two daughters are still a little too small to show much interest just yet. Cast Of "Precious" Parties With Star Mo'Nique On "The Mo'Nique Show"

17 November 2009 4:29 AM, PST | icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news »

Though the new critically-lauded film "Precious" touches on subjects like abuse and rape, the film's cast is hitting star Monique's new show for a late night party. They'll appear on tonight's edition of "The Mo'Nique Show" on Bet, airing at 11pm Et/Pt.

Comedian and actress, and now host, of Bet's #1 late night show, Mo'Nique plays an emotionally and physically abusive mother in a could-be Oscar nominated turn. Director Lee Daniels and stars Gabourey Sidibe, who plays Precious, Paula Patton, and Sapphire, writer of the book "Push" which the film "Precious" is based on, will all appear on the show to talk about the new movie for a "Precious" party.

The cast does have a reason to celebrate. Not only is "Precious" one of the best reviewed films of the year, it's also a box-office hit in its ultra-limited release. The film opens wider this weekend.
