Back in February, following the premiere of the newest Toy Story 3 trailer, we wrote up a quick feature about the new characters, one of which was a sparkly purple octopus that enjoyed "giving massages, fanning, shaking multiple hands at once and gambling." Simply put, we had absolutely no idea who the hell this character was. Now we do. Meet Stretch, who will be voiced by Whoopi Goldberg. According to the character description, Stretch is "a fun-loving under-the-sea octopus friend that shines in glittery purple. Kids can count her eight rubbery legs and dozens of sticky suckers that are sure to stand up to rough-and-tumble play and extreme stretching. Toss her high on the wall and watch her climb her way down! Clean in mild soap solution to remove dust and lint." Check out the poster as well as a video featuring a 360° view of the character below. »

Disney had their first bomb in years with The Princess and the Frog, and they think they know why: boys won’t go see a movie about a Princess. I blame the parents. But Disney has a workaround for their next film: They've renamed Rapunzel and are calling it Tangled. They also added a swashbuckling bandit named "Flynn Rider" to the classic fairy tale, and made him the center of the film. Bad multinational conglomerate. Bad.
Scientists are now saying the Chilean quake was so powerful that it moved the entire city of Concepcion ten feet to the west. It shifted places like Buenes Aires on the other side of the continent one inch to the west. Mother Nature needed some serious feng shui.
It’s been at least five hours since I wrote that John Krasinski was a lock for Captain America, so there has to be a new rumor. »

What? Can it be seven days since the last Toy Story 3 character landed on our metaphorical electronic doorstep? Yes, yes it can.The seventh in an increasingly long list of new toys to entertain and intrigue you, Stretch is your new favourite glittery purple rubbery Octopus thing (voiced by our lady Whoopi Goldberg) and no doubt you’ll love him as much as you do Rex, Woody and Mr Potato Head once he hits our screens. Maybe. Possibly maybe. We are reliably informed that there are dozens of sturdy suckers on each of his legs, and with good care and regular cleaning, you can stick ‘im to a window and watch him wiggle his fine self down. If only you could do that with real octopodes*, then you could have fun with living cephalopods in your own house and probably end up getting reported to the Rspca too. Sparkly and smiley, »

Another winner at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards has been made public. Comedienne/actress Mo'nique has snubbed "Up in the Air" star Anna Kendrick of her chance winning this year's Best Supporting Actress, and became the fourth black actress in history to win an Oscar following Hattie McDaniel, Whoopi Goldberg and Halle Berry.
During a gala ceremony held at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, Los Angeles on Sunday night, March 7, the 42-year-old was honored with the kudo for her performance as Mary Jones in "Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire". Robin Williams presented her with the kudo.
Keeping her acceptance speech short, Mo'nique thanked the Academy "for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics." Before thanking her husband, she said, " I want to thank Miss Hattie McDaniel for enduring all that she had to so that I would not have to. »

As expected Mo’Nique took home the Oscar gold for Best Supporting Actress for her very stunning performance in the film Precious: Based on the Novel "Push" by Sapphire.
Mo’Nique becomes the second African American comedic actress since Whoopi Goldberg’s win in the film Ghost as the first African American actress in that category.
As a stand-up comedian from Baltimore, Mo’Nique has made many people believers and extremely proud. Congratulations to the real Queen of comedy, and now Queen of the Best Supporting Actress Role in a Major Motion Picture!

Haven't seen Tim Burton's latest trip-out costume party yet? Don't feel like going, either from opening day fatigue or a lack of the supplemental fungi enhancement? Don't feel too bad. The beauty of Lewis Carroll's creation is that it's so seemingly random and outlandish that, over the years, many-a filmmakers have tried to re-imagine the story into their version of the bizarre. Alice always stays Alice, but with each film, we get a vision of Wonderland that becomes as weird or as cheerful as the filmmakers allow them to be.
And so, here are ten of the notable Wonderlands to seek, either for cultural relevancy or plain good entertainment.

Alice in Wonderland (1951)
We shall start, naturally, with what is obviously the most famous adaptation of them all, courtesy of Walt Disney animation. Much of the misconception of what characters are in which books come from this trippy gem, »

The maverick actor is once again one of Hollywood's hottest properties, but he's still a high-risk choice to co-host tonight's Oscars ceremony
The role of Oscars host has historically proved something of a poisoned chalice. Few presenters can pull off the trick of being witty without being disrespectful or spontaneous without being deemed de trop by the American establishment. It takes a certain skill to keep things moving, to ensure that the Hollywood back-slapping and back-stabbing is handled with casual grace and a fluent reading of the autocue. Hugh Jackman was derided for being "too dull"; Chris Rock for being "too tame". Whoopi Goldberg was considered a safe pair of hands until she made a relatively inoffensive joke about losing her virginity and was criticised for being "too smutty".
This year, the Academy has taken something of a gamble by putting Alec Baldwin in charge, alongside co-host Steve Martin. Although »

Alice in Wonderland is always a trippy experience, and the BBC version is no exception. This black and white televised play, however, is quite a bit different from the upbeat and silly Disney adaptation and most likely the colorful and fantastical Burton flick. No, this is a darker, more disturbing account of Alice’s journey to Wonderland, one that takes this story from a tale for children to a horrifying, less engaging play no one under 40 would want to sit through.
The worst part of the film is Alice. It’s no surprise that this was Anne-Marie Mallik’s first and only acting role. Half the time she stares into space, even when she is supposed to be having a conversation. She barely ever faces the person she is talking to. And of course, while she’s having conversations and looking the other way, her lips aren’t moving. Are these telepathic exchanges, »

Whoopi Goldberg, Margaret Avery in Steven Spielberg’s The Color Purple; Avery’s "Dear God" trade paper ad Long before the Nicolas Chartier/vote-for-The Hurt Locker-not-Avatar e-mail and the Robert Wise/Miramax’s Gangs of New York Oscar ads caused a stir, lots of eyebrows were raised when both Margaret Avery and God found themselves taking part in the Oscar race. That was back in early 1986, when Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple, co-produced and scored by Quincy Jones, was being touted as one of the year’s strongest contenders for the Best Picture Oscar. Avery, who (deservedly) received widespread praise for her performance as the woman who helps Whoopi Goldberg’s abused character unleash her inner strength, [...] »
