Mel Gibson To Film At A Prison In Veracruz

4 hours ago | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Do you go through the trouble of emptying a portion of a prison to make a movie? If it.s a Mel Gibson movie you do! Over a year ago, word got out that Gibson was scouting locations for a new movie in Mexico.s Gulf coast state of Veracruz. Now, THR got word that Gibson will indeed be returning to the site where he shot the 2006 movie Apocalypto, to film at the Ignacio Allende prison in January. Veracruz Gov. Fidel Herrera says part of the prison will be vacated .because a grand production will be filmed there with our friend, the actor and producer Mel Gibson.. It.s funny to hear Herrera refer to Gibson as a friend, but Gibson rightfully earned that title. Earlier this year Gibson donated $1 million to help repair storm-damaged homes in the region. I bet it had something to do with his moviemaking ambitions, »

Tom Hardy is Mad Max? Not so fast

4 December 2009 2:48 PM, PST | Denver Movies Examiner | See recent Denver Movies Examiner news »

The casting game of musical chairs continues. Though it appeared that the casting of Tom Hardy to play the lead in Mad Max: Fury Road was pretty much a done deal, Hardy himself says that isn’t true.

“[Director George Miller] hasn’t actually confirmed that,” says Hardy about his casting. “The audition process had nothing to do with Max and nothing to do with the story or the script. It was unorthodox to the point where actually I could have been auditioning for anything. It was an anonymous read.”

Though there is no official word on Hardy’s casting, the Bronson actor says “it’s strongly coming in my direction. I would be preparing for that role. The Mad Max figure is a big figure, and I have to get my head around that.”

Will the new Mad Max be a a rehash of the original film starring Mel Gibson?

Exclusive: Tom Hardy On Charlize Theron And The 'Massive' Scale Of 'Mad Max: Fury Road'

4 December 2009 1:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

"It's terrifying."

That's how Tom Hardy describes the ginormous scale of "Mad Max: Fury Road." And it's a terror the British actor will confront next year as he takes over the title role pioneered by Mel Gibson in George Miller's three previous post-apocalyptic action flicks.

"It's massive. It's enormous," he continued. "It's like turning a mountain upside down and pouring it through a sieve."

Guiding him through this Herculean task will be Miller – the film's budget is reported to be $100 million – and for that, Hardy is insanely thankful. "There's something very attractive about working with George," the actor said during the interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz. "It's like being in a family and trying to create something together and let's trying to go across the ocean in a canoe. If anybody can do, it's George."

"[It's] dangerous, but not big," he added with a laugh.

Tom Hardy on (Hopefully) Becoming Mad Max

3 December 2009 11:23 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

You have to have a wait-and-see approach to Mad Max 4. It's a cool story, even though the third movie is mostly stinky, but enough time has passed that it might be due for another chapter. Of course, with the apocalypse more popular than ever, Mad Max: Fury Road might sink into the background as just another sub-genre movie.

Director George Miller is returning to the scene of the crime, and it's a gamble to put so much of the burden of this film on the shoulders of Tom Hardy, likely to be the new Max Rockatansky. Yes, the first film did the same thing with a young Mel Gibson, and look how that worked out for the franchise and its star. However, Mad Max is a brand name now, so there are expectations. I'm not saying Hardy's a bad fit, but I am saying convincing people might be a bit of a process. »

Tom Hardy Talks Mad Max 4

3 December 2009 1:20 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Talented British actor Tom Hardy (RocknRolla, Bronson) has taken part in an interview with MTV where he spoke about George Miller’s upcoming fourth installment of his iconic Mad Max series, currently known as Fury Road.

Before any questions were even asked, Hardy wanted to state that he has still not officially been cast as Mad Max:

“George (Miller) hasn’t actually confirmed that. It’s strongly coming in my direction. I would be preparing for that role.”

Now whilst I’m a fan of Tom Hardy, this statement still gives me a glimmer of hope that Mel Gibson himself may yet return to play the role which he made so iconic. As a huge fan of the Mad Max trilogy I trust creator George Miller to deliver an excellent fourth movie, however there are just some characters in cinematic history that have been portrayed so perfectly by an »

Tom Hardy is terrified about following in Mel Gibson's footsteps. Tom Hardy Talks Mad Max

2 December 2009 11:24 AM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

In recent months there have been many rumblings about Mad Max 4, specifically entitled,  Mad Max: Fury Road. All have been covered here on Screen Rant – but the main one is that British actor Tom Hardy (Bronson) was being eyed to replace Mel Gibson in the titular role of Max.

No official announcement has been made about the role, but Hardy spoke exclusively with MTV about his possible appearance in the film – and he seems to be as uncertain (or unforthcoming) about the details of the film (which is due to shoot down-under next year) as director George Miller and Mel Gibson.

MTV’s Josh Horowitz quizzed the actor about the film and Hardy stated that he was far from a lock for the film:

George hasn’t actually confirmed that. It’s strongly coming in my direction. I would be preparing for that role.”

Fight Club: 10th Anniversary Blu-ray Review

2 December 2009 9:57 AM, PST | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

"Is Tyler my bad dream? Or am I Tyler's?"

David Fincher's (Seven, Zodiac) cinematic adaptation of Fight Club (based on Chuck Palahniuk's novel) burst onto the scene in 1999 to polarizing critical reaction. For every claim that the director had crafted a scathing indictment of post Baby Boomer materialism, a rebuttal arose deriding the movie as a celebration of mindless violence wrapped in infantile philosophizing. This could be written off as a case of snobbish critics just not "getting it" or the low brow masses wanting their visceral but vapid entertainment. For me, the film's beauty does not simply lie somewhere in the middle as I adore the brutal, dream-like vision but not for the common rationale about its prominently touted message.

Sure there is a lesson to be learned that the things we own do not own us, we should not define our existence gathering more "versatile solutions for modern living, »

Celebs Return to Their Most Iconic Roles for Photo Shoot

2 December 2009 6:45 AM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

To celebrate their 20th birthday, Empire Magazine invited a whole ton of actors and actresses to ever-so-briefly reprise their most iconic roles for a pretty cool photo shoot. Curious to see what Arnold Schwarzenegger would look like now if he donned those famous black sunglasses and threw on his best badass pose for a photo in front of a motorcycle? Or what about wanting to see Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster reunited for the first time since the Oscar-winning Silence of the Lambs?

Other cool photo ops include Mel Gibson wearing face paint in honor of Braveheart, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost looking back at Shaun of the Dead, Christian Bale returning to his American Psycho days, Ben Stiller showing us all that Zoolander totally deserves a sequel, Gerard Butler giving us his best 300 roar, Laurence Fishburne calling back Morpheus and more. Exclusive Interview: Possesion(s) star Laurence Fuller

1 December 2009 3:51 PM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Possession(s), a new Australian short, featured one of the most notable launches in recent memory. To coincide with the film’s release a famous Peter Booth artwork, Painting (Man With Bandaged Head), was sold off in The Deutscher and Hackett Important Fine Art Auction.

The tie-in between the film and the auction comes in the shape of actor Laurence Fuller who used the painting, which he owned, as inspiration for the dark, brooding short.  His character Frank, upon seeing the Peter Booth work, becomes embroiled with a sense of obsession; he simply has to own the piece and will do anything to make it so. However, it soon becomes clear that Frank is not the only one consumed by the desire to possess.

Laurence Fuller shines in the lead role and it is easy to see why he is a much sought after young actor. Having attended the Method »

Exclusive: 'Mad Max' Speaks! 'Bronson' Star Tom Hardy On His Coming Game-Changer

1 December 2009 2:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Tom Hardy landing the starring role in "Mad Max: Fury Road" is an amazing turn of events for that franchise. You might remember him as Handsome Bob from "RocknRolla." But if you really want to understand the awesome power of Hardy in the loner badass role once occupied by Mel Gibson, you have to check out the UK import "Bronson," in which Hardy portrays real-life sociopath Charlie Bronson, a man who's been bounced between more than 150 correctional facilities and mental institutions. He carries the challenging film with ease, crafting a vile character who you nonetheless want to root for.

Recently, Hardy was gracious enough to take some time out of his schedule for a chat with MTV's Josh Horowitz. While the topic of the discussion -- pegged to Hardy's selection as one of the people we're most thankful for in 2009 -- was mostly on what's been for the actor, he »

At New York Comic-Con in February, MTV News named Mad Max — the post-apocalyptic gun-slinger with an itch for bloody revenge made famous by Mel Gibson in three George Miller films — as the fourth greatest big-screen badass of all time.

Now, with a fourth "Mad Max" film in development, the question becomes: Can anyone possibly replace Gibson as the freak-fighting adventurer? "RocknRolla" star Tom Hardy is going to do his best.

Recently, MTV News had a chance to chat with the man who will likely replace Mel in the next film, and Hardy spoke about the casting process, how he would approach taking the place of an icon and the fact that nothing — despite reports to the contrary — has been made official. »

Who We're Thankful For In 2009: Tom Hardy, From 'Bronson' To 'Mad Max: Fury Road' And 'Inception'

24 November 2009 12:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Tom Hardy is a man you should be watching in the new year. Let's face it: he's a man you should have been watching since HBO's stellar World War II miniseries "Band of Brothers" aired, his screen debut. You can be forgiven for missing "Bronson" this fall, as the movie didn't open very wide. It was however critically hailed -- with good reason -- and a hit in the UK, where the subject, notorious criminal Charlie Bronson, is well-known.

Next year is going to kick off a whole new chapter however, as Hardy steps into a role formerly occupied by a younger Mel Gibson. He'll star as the titular character in George Miller's long-awaited return to our grim post-apocalyptic future in "Mad Max: Fury Road." He'll also be seen in "The Dark Knight" director Chris Nolan's "thriller of the mind," "Inception."

In an exclusive interview with MTV, Hardy »
