Watchmen—The Ultimate Cut (Warner Bros.) Director Zack Snyder’s film of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark graphic novel is as worthy an adaptation of a great book that has ever been filmed. In an alternative version of the year 1985, Richard Nixon is serving his third term as President and super heroes have been outlawed by a congressional act, in spite of the fact that two of the most high-profile “masks,” Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War. When The Comedian is found murdered, many former heroes become concerned that a conspiracy is afoot to assassinate retired costumed crime fighters. Former masks Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson), Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) and still-operating Rorschach (Jackie Earle Haley, in an Oscar-worthy turn) launch an investigation of their own, all while the Pentagon’s “Doomsday »

Q: I recently watched a new series from USA Network titled White Collar, and I was stunned by the gorgeousness of the lead character, Neal, played by the beautiful Matthew Bomer. I can't seem to find much info about him. Mind to fill in more? -- rcLoy, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A: Bomer is from Houston where his father was a Dallas Cowboy. He was a high school (and, later, acting school) classmate of Pushing Daisies’ Lee Pace. He started on soaps, almost played Superman in the latest Superman movie, and co-starred on the TV show Tru Calling (with Eliza Dushku) and in the movie Flight Plan (with Jodie Foster), and also had a reoccurring role on Chuck.

Kirsten Dunst took a solo stroll on the streets of Manhattan on Tuesday. It seems like she's been spending most of her time in the Big Apple recently, which makes sense considering she put her La home up for sale a few months ago. Kirsten spent her Halloween holiday partying with her East Coast pals - she dressed up like Jodie Foster's character in Taxi Driver and was even spotted deep in conversation with Hugh Grant during a stop at the Rose Bar. One tMF viewer, who is apparently a Megan Fox fan, once said 'Megan Fox is overrated as a celebrity but not as an actress.' That comment made me think: Is there really such a difference? Can't we judge someone who is a celebrity and an actress, and treat her as one and the same? She's just one person right?

- - - Here's exactly what our viewer said:
Megan Fox may be overrated as a "celebrity," but she is actually underrated, As An Actress.
She gets a ridiculously inordinate amount of criticism for her acting because the part of her career that made her famous was a part that focused on how attractive she was, not anything that could actually showcase any acting skills, »

Before I launch into the conclusion of my 50 Influential Scream Queens (read part 1 here), please let me remind you that this list is based upon my personal taste, and my personal taste alone. I didn't poll 100 Fango readers, the Fango staff or any other form of 'industry professionals'. It's all opinion, so if you feel I've wronged a certain actress by excluding them from the list, don't leap to brand the entire Fango crew 'vile'. I probably just don't personally find their work to be that influential. Either that or I'm just ignorant to their accomplishments!
25. Mia Farrow: Mia's genre work may be a bit limited, but that doesn't change the fact that Rosemary's Baby will forever be regarded as one of the creepiest films in history. Farrow's portrayal of Rosemary Woodhouse is harrowing to say the least, and will always remain (in my mind) one of the best performances the genre has seen. »

Shankman's got spirit!
Do you follow the Oscar show news in the way you follow the Oscars? I don't so much, despite this life I lead constantly writin' about the awards themselves. I care who hosts to some degree but I tend to ignore the rest. But I found it interesting this week when director Adam Shankman (Hairspray) was named as one of the producers and his choreography skills were noted as a reason to be enthused about this assignment. At least he has a sense of humor about his, um, limited history with the big event I was one of Paula Abdul's 'Under the Sea' pirates," Shankman said. "The last time I was at the Oscars, I was in Lycra, with a pirate hat on. Shankman's presence must mean more musical numbers. I'm all for musical numbers provided they rehire Hugh Jackman as host. He was so fine last year. »

George Miller has been trying to get a Mel Gibson-less Mad Max film off the ground for the last few years. The last thing that we heard was that the star of The Hurt Locker Jeremy Renner was up for the role in the rebooted action franchise.
However, there are now rumors that star of Brit-jail-house-flick Bronson, Tom Hardy, will be slipping into Mel Gibson’s leathers for the role of Mad Max, and that Oscar-winner Charlize Theron will be “doing a Tina Turner” and co-starring in Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road.
The not-always-reliable E! Online is reporting that “multiple sources” are stating that Theron and Hardy will be going beyond Thunderdome and starring in Fury Road.
The site also states that the film is quite a while away yet:
“The Mad Max revamp is a long way from fruition, and Miller is being very secretive about the roles and plot. »

We know how it is: You’d like to go to the movies this weekend, but there’s all this vengeance to be doled out and all those injustices to be put right. But you can have a multiplex-like experience at home with a collection of the right DVDs. And when someone asks you on Monday, “Hey, did you see Law Abiding Citizen this weekend?” you can reply, “No, I indulged in the long history of vigilante cinema and checked out the long history of extralegal fantasy ass kicking.” Instead Of: Law Abiding Citizen, the vigilante action flick about grieving, angry husband and father Gerard Butler taking vengeance against Da Jamie Foxx for setting free the man who murdered his family... Watch: The granddaddy of vigilante flicks, 1974’s Death Wish, in which Charles Bronson goes all badass on bad guys who done bad. Just as the Vietnam War spawned the »

There have been some absolutely amazing years in the race for the Best Actress Oscar. Take 1988 when Jodie Foster's performance in "The Accused" edged out what may have been career turns by Glenn Close in "Dangerous Laisons" and Sigourney Weaver in "Gorillas in the Mist." And you can't overlook one of Meryl Streep's all-time top five with "A Cry in the Dark" that year either. Or, 2002 where Nicole Kidman won for "The Hours," but faced heavy competition from Julianne Moore in "Far From Heaven," Salma Hayek in "Frida," Diane Lane in "Unfaithful" and Renee Zellweger in "Chicago." You... »

I'm a fan of Mel Gibson, the actor, and I'm not ashamed of it. I don't care about his off-screen antics and issues. I only care about his work on screen, and I don't see how anyone can honestly argue that the man's not a damn good actor in both dramatic and comedic roles. They can try, but they will fail. It's been five years since he's appeared on the big screen (Paparazzi) and seven since he's been in the lead role (Signs), but 2010 looks to be the year that finally changes. Due later next year is The Beaver where he co-stars with Jodie Foster as a man who can only communicate via a beaver puppet her wears on his hand. There's no way that will be anything less than awesome. Before that though Gibson will be hitting screens this January in Edge of Darkness as a father enraged over his daughter's murder. The »

It may be that 2010 is the year Mel Gibson returns to the limelight — 8 years after his last on-screen role and following tabloid mania that has shifted his image in drastically negative ways. He’s got two big projects on the way. The first is Jodie Foster’s The Beaver, and the second is Edge of Darkness from director Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale).
A remake of Campbell’s own 1985 U.K. miniseries, the film features Gibson, Ray Winstone and Danny Huston in a script by William Monahan and Andrew Bovell. Check out the trailer below for a great glimpse of what we’re in store for. Edge of Darkness is slated for release on January 29, 2010.
