Preview. Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J star in this NCIS spin-off that revolves around a team of undercover agents based in Los Angeles.

Premieres: September 22, 9pm on CBS

Stars: LL Cool J, Chris O'Donnell, Daniela Ruah, Adam Jamal Craig, Linda Hunt, Peter Cambor (more)

Plot: This "NCIS" spinoff aired as a backdoor pilot last spring, introducing viewers to the Office of Special Projects (OSP), a division of NCIS that is charged with tracking down criminals that pose a threat to national security. Partners Special Agent "G" Callen (Chris O'Donnell) and Special Agent Sam Hanna (LL Cool J) report to Director Leon Vance (occasional guest star Rocky Carroll). Rounding out the team is Special Agent Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah); the new kid, Special Agent Dominic Vaile (Adam Jamal Craig); backroom coordinator Hetty Lange (Linda Hunt); and Operational Psychologist Nate Getz (Peter Cambor).

Why We're Excited: The crossover episodes were promising, which is half the battle.

Why We're Not: Really, there's no reason to waste time harping on the negatives until the numbers come out, "NCIS" being as hot as it is in the ratings. CBS has seen great success with its crimetime franchises, and solely based on that fact, it probably considers this thing to be a slam-dunk. And for good reason. To even have a chance of tanking, the premiere would have to drastically veer from the quality of that crossover.

Trivia: O'Donnell started his television career by appearing on "The Practice" in 2003.
