| - The awards are presented to shows that were broadcast between 1 June 2000 and 31 May 2001.
- The primetime Emmy awards ceremony is being postponed from 16 September due to the assault on the World Trade Center and other facilities on 11 September. On 7 October the ceremony is again postponed due to the US air strikes in Afghanistan, this time only hours before the event with no new date given.
